ABSTRACT
The existence of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos has been unambiguously demonstrated, but their sources remain elusive. IceCube reported an association of a 290-TeV neutrino with a ...gamma-ray flare of TXS 0506 + 056, an active galactic nucleus with a compact radio jet pointing to us. Later, radio-bright blazars were shown to be associated with IceCube neutrino events with high statistical significance. These associations remained unconfirmed with the data of independent experiments. Here, we report on the detection of a rare neutrino event with the estimated energy of 224 ± 75 TeV from the direction of TXS 0506 + 056 by the new Baikal Gigaton Volume Detector (Baikal-GVD) in April 2021. This event is the highest energy cascade detected so far by the Baikal-GVD neutrino telescope from a direction below horizon. The result supports previous suggestions that radio blazars in general, and TXS 0506 + 056 in particular, are the sources of high-energy neutrinos, and opens up the cascade channel for the neutrino astronomy.
Neutrino astronomy offers a novel view of the non-thermal Universe and is complementary to other astronomical disciplines. The field has seen rapid progress in recent years, including the first ...detection of astrophysical neutrinos in the TeV–PeV energy range by IceCube and the first identified extragalactic neutrino source (TXS 0506+056). Further discoveries are aimed for with new cubic-kilometer telescopes in the Northern Hemisphere: Baikal-GVD, in Lake Baikal, and KM3NeT-ARCA, in the Mediterranean sea. The construction of Baikal-GVD proceeds as planned; the detector currently includes over 2000 optical modules arranged on 56 strings, providing an effective volume of 0.35 km
. We review the scientific case for Baikal-GVD, the construction plan, and first results from the partially built array.
The hip arthroplasty in case of destructive - dystrophic affection is considered as the most effective method, which provided social and home reintegration. A modern science development facilitates ...to this technique. However, specialists noted that the rate of endoprosthesis complication increased in the patients after osteosynthesis of proximal femur. The authors compared the results of patient’s treatment that applied hip arthroplasty methods after osteosynthesis of proximal femur. The main group consisted of 38 patients who underwent hip arthroplasty after osteosynthesis of proximal femur. The control group had 43 patients with hip idiopathic osteoarthrosis, who underwent primary arthroplasty. The endoprothesis replacement was associated with increase of the rate of intraoperative and postoperative complications in the main group of patients. According to the results, given group of patients requires a special approach to diagnostics and treatment.
Abstract The issues of the structural organization of productive factors that trigger and intensify the economic dynamics of the regions are quite well worked out in the scientific community today. ...Without going into a detailed review of derivative approaches that offer modifications to the models discussed above, it must be unequivocally stated that the basic factors of economic dynamics included in the neoclassical production functions are labor, fixed capital, and scientific and technological progress (STP). At the same time, it is important to take into account that when taking into account and including in the models of production functions of scientific and technical progress, it is often understood as the potential for the creation and diffusion of innovations in the economic environment. In this work, scientific and technical progress is understood as a set of human, financial, infrastructural and institutional resources that determine the overall innovative capabilities of the region and the level of its effectiveness in the field of science and technology to solve problems in the field of ensuring the qualitative and structural parameters of economic growth and development, increasing competitiveness in the meso -, macro and global level. Relying on this approach to the definition, as well as on the methodological tools for measuring STP proposed by the authors, the study attempts to construct a Solu production function. Based on the results of the assessments, the relevant parameters of the influence of productive factors on the GRP dynamics were established (on the example of the Republic of Tatarstan), and patterns were identified that prove the priority of scientific and technological progress in shaping the prospects for economic dynamics in the conditions of the fourth industrial revolution.
The Baikal-GVD deep underwater neutrino experiment participates in the international multi-messenger program to detect the astrophysical sources of high- and ultrahigh-energy cosmic-ray particles, ...being at the stage of array deployment and a step-by-step increase of the telescope’s effective volume to the scale of a cubic kilometer. At present, the telescope consists of seven clusters containing 2016 photodetectors. The effective volume of the detector has reached 0.35 km
for the selection of shower events from neutrino interactions in Baikal water. The experimental data have been accumulated in a continuous exposure mode since 2015, allowing a prompt data analysis and a celestial-sphere monitoring program to be implemented in real time. We discuss the structure of the data acquisition system, describe the physical event reconstruction procedure in the mode of fast response to alerts, and present the results of our analysis of nine alerts from the polar IceCube telescope from early September to late October 2020.
The neutrino telescope Baikal-GVD in Lake Baikal will be a research infrastructure aimed mainly at studying astrophysical neutrino fluxes. The telescope will consist of clusters of strings – ...functionally independent sub-arrays. The deployment of the first demonstration cluster has been started in April 2013. In 2014 the deployment of the second stage of the demonstration cluster has been performed. We describe the configuration and design of the first GVD cluster and review the current status of cluster deployment in Lake Baikal.
The elimination of environmental damage accumulated as a result of past economic activities is one of the factors ensuring the state’s human right to a favorable environment, provided for by the ...Constitution of the Russian Federation. The paper deals with the issues of identifying and assessing such harm. An analysis of the criteria for assessing past environmental damage, provided for by the current legislation, is carried out. The harm caused to the natural environment by objects of accumulated harm is wider in the social sense of the word than in the legal one. Ultimately, its most negative consequence is causing harm to health and life of both each citizen and the whole society as a whole. The criteria for assessing objects of accumulated environmental damage, provided for by the current legislation, make it impossible to assess the real impact of such objects on the state of the environment and the economic efficiency of their liquidation. The lack of mechanisms for a comprehensive assessment of the impact of objects of accumulated harm on the state of the environment hinders the ability to fully resolve the issue of compensation for environmental damage caused to human life and health and, as a result, ensuring the constitutional human right to a favorable environment.
The more correct recalculation from the measured Cherenkov light fluxes at distances of 200 (Q200) and 100 (Q100) m from the Extensive Air Shower (EAS) core to the energy of the primary particle has ...been developed using the results of M-C simulation by the CORSIKA code, assuming a light primary composition of cosmic rays. Using the new conversion expressions, a differential energy spectrum was obtained according to the data of the Tunka-133 array for 7 years of operation and the TAIGA-HiSCORE array for 2 years of operation.
We report a measurement of the positive muon lifetime to a precision of 1.0 ppm; it is the most precise particle lifetime ever measured. The experiment used a time-structured, low-energy muon beam ...and a segmented plastic scintillator array to record more than 2×10(12) decays. Two different stopping target configurations were employed in independent data-taking periods. The combined results give τ(μ(+)) (MuLan)=2 196 980.3(2.2) ps, more than 15 times as precise as any previous experiment. The muon lifetime gives the most precise value for the Fermi constant: G(F) (MuLan)=1.166 378 8(7)×10(-5) GeV(-2) (0.6 ppm). It is also used to extract the μ(-)p singlet capture rate, which determines the proton's weak induced pseudoscalar coupling g(P).
In this paper, we consider the problem of minimizing total weighted tardiness for equal-length jobs with arbitrary release dates on a single machine. This problem is mentioned as a minimal open ...problem, see http://www2.informatik.uni-osnabrueck.de/knust/class/dateien/classes/ein_ma/ein_ma, i.e., its complexity status is still open. The latest results on this problem were presented in the years 2000 and 2005, namely solution algorithms for special cases. We present some properties of this problem and discuss possible ways for future research.
