Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by a combination of several neuropathological hallmarks, such as extracellular aggregates of beta amyloid (Aβ). Numerous alternatives have been studied for ...inhibiting Aβ aggregation but, at this time, there are no effective treatments available. Here, we developed the tri-component nanohybrid system AuNPs@POM@PEG based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) covered with polyoxometalates (POMs) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). In this work, AuNPs@POM@PEG demonstrated the inhibition of the formation of amyloid fibrils, showing a 75% decrease in Aβ aggregation in vitro. As it is a potential candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, we evaluated the cytotoxicity of AuNPs@POM@PEG and its ability to cross the blood–brain barrier (BBB). We achieved a stable nanosystem that is non-cytotoxic below 2.5 nM to human neurovascular cells. The brain permeability of AuNPs@POM@PEG was analyzed in an in vitro microphysiological model of the BBB (BBB-on-a-chip), containing 3D human neurovascular cell co-cultures and microfluidics. The results show that AuNPs@POM@PEG was able to cross the brain endothelial barrier in the chip and demonstrated that POM does not affect the barrier integrity, giving the green light to further studies into this system as a nanotherapeutic.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of anxiety-reducing techniques including music therapy, sophrology, and creative visualization in pregnant women with a fetus diagnosed as small ...for gestational age and improved fetal and neonatal weight. This was a quasi-experimental study with a nonrandomized clinical trial design. We compared 2 groups of pregnant women with a fetus diagnosed as small for gestational age with no abnormalities on Doppler studies. The control group (n = 93) received standard care, and the intervention group (n = 65), in addition to standard care, underwent a program of 6 sessions led by a midwife or nurse who taught anxiety-reduction techniques. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) including trait and state subscales were completed by both groups at the start of the study, and only the STAI-State subscale was completed again at the end of the study. Comparisons between the 2 groups regarding fetal weight and centile and maternal STAI scores were performed using the t test and the χ test. There were no significant differences in the STAI-Trait scores between the 2 groups. There were statistically significant differences in the intervention groupʼs STAI-State score percentiles between the start and the end of the study, being lower at the end of the study (P < .001). There were significant differences between the 2 groups in fetal weight trajectory on the basis of fetal weightthe intervention group had a larger weight gain (P < .005). The program designed to reduce anxiety in pregnant women was effective at reducing anxiety in the women in the intervention group, leading to a favorable fetal weight trajectory in this group.
Background: Ethical conflicts in nursing have generally been studied in terms of temporal frequency and the degree of conflict. This study presents a new perspective for examining ethical conflict in ...terms of the degree of exposure to conflict and its typology. Objectives: The aim was to examine the level of exposure to ethical conflict for professional nurses in critical care units and to analyze the relation between this level and the types of ethical conflict and moral states. Research design: This was a descriptive correlational study. Central and dispersion, normality tests, and analysis of variance were carried out. Participants and research context: A total of 203 nurses were from two third-level teaching hospitals in Spain. Both centers are part of the University of Barcelona Health Network. Participants filled out the Ethical Conflict in Nursing Questionnaire. Critical Care Version. Ethical considerations: This investigation received the approval of the ethical committees for clinical investigation of the two participating hospitals. Participants were informed of the authorship and aims of the study. Findings: The index of exposure to ethical conflict was x ¼ 182:35. The situations involving analgesic treatment and end-of-life care were shown to be frequent sources of conflict. The types of ethical conflict and moral states generally arranged themselves from lesser to greater levels of index of exposure to ethical conflict. Discussion: The moderate level of exposure to ethical conflict was consistent with other international studies. However, the situations related with family are infrequent, and this presents differences with previous research. The results suggest that there is a logical relationship between types of conflict and levels of exposure to ethical conflict. Conclusion: The types of ethical conflict and moral states were related with the levels of exposure to ethical conflict. The new perspective was shown to be useful for analyzing the phenomenon of ethical conflict in the nurse.
Pese a la reciente proliferación en nuestro país de centros universitarios en los que se imparte la Titulación de Traducción e Interpretación, los principales colectivos profesionales de traductores ...se han mostrado de acuerdo en señalar la necesidad de una mayor especialización en determinados campos para los que existe una demanda real, por una parte, así como un mayor ajuste de los contenidos de los planes de estudio actuales a la realidad laboral con la que van a topar los estudiantes una vez finalizados sus estudios, por otra. Esta doble necesidad acaba de ser corroborada precisamente en los informes sobre La Traducción Editorial en España (2008, 2010), auspiciados por el Ministerio de Cultura, en los que además se afirma sin ambages que es precisamente la falta de especialización y de exigencia de una titulación o credenciales específicos a lahora de desarrollar esta profesión uno de los aspectos más influyentes en el carácter abierto del acceso a la práctica profesional de la traducción. Nuestra propuesta de especialización se ha concretado en el Máster Universitario en Traducción Editorial (MUTE), un título evaluado positivamente por la ANECA e impartido en laUniversidad de Murcia desde el curso 2010/11.
Objetivo: comparar el grado de ansiedad de un grupo de mujeres con un feto con retraso de crecimiento intrauterino (RCIU) visitadas exclusivamente por especialistas en medicina maternofetal en ...relación a otras mujeres que, además, también fueron visitadas por una matrona formada en técnicas de relajación y detectar los sentimientos prevalentes cuando se informa del diagnóstico. Material y método: estudio multimétodo: cuantitativo (diseño cuasi-experimental) y cualitativo (fenomenológico). Las participantes fueron gestantes con feto con RCIU, mayores de edad, sin trastornos psiquiátricos ni dificultad idiomática. En el grupo control, se incluyeron mujeres que siguieron el control de la gestación de alto riesgo. Las mujeres del grupo experimental además del control estándar, tuvieron tres visitas con la matrona en la que se explicaron técnicas de control de la ansiedad. Ambos grupos realizaron el mismo test para evaluar la ansiedad (test STAI), al inicio y al final de su participación. Finalmente, se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a las mujeres del grupo experimental. Resultados y conclusiones: las mujeres que tuvieron contacto con la matrona, además de los cuidados técnicos, obtuvieron puntuaciones más bajas en la escala STAI (menor grado de ansiedad) que aquellas que sólo recibieron cuidados por especialistas en Medicina Maternofetal. Las entrevistas pusieron de manifiesto sentimientos: las categorías que emergieron del análisis fueron: a) sentimientos en relación a ellas mismas, b) sentimientos en relación al personal o al hospital y c) sentimientos de afrontamiento. En suma, ofrecer técnicas de relajación a aquellas madres con un embarazo de riesgo (feto RCIU) mejora su grado de ansiedad.

Objetivo: examinar si la presencia de ansiedad o estrés materno durante el embarazo influye en el peso del feto o el neonato y cómo cambian las variables asociadas. Metodología: Se llevó a cabo una ...revisión bibliográfica de artículos indexados en las bases de datos PubMed, CINHAL, Cuiden, Scielo, Lilacs, Dialnet, Latindex, Cuidatge y WorldCat, publicados entre 2001 y 2016. Resultados: A pesar de que la metodología de los estudios es muy variada, 9 de los 22 artículos seleccionados para la revisión concluyeron que existe una relación entre la presencia de estrés o ansiedad y el menor peso del bebé al nacer. No hay consenso sobre en qué trimestre de gestación afecta más el estrés, aunque sí se destaca la importancia del segundo trimestre. Conclusión: La evidencia indica que la presencia de estrés o ansiedad durante el embarazo afecta negativamente al peso fetal o del recién nacido, reduciéndolo o impidiendo que se desarrolle el potencial de éste. La disparidad de herramientas y momento de medida del estrés o la ansiedad, entre otras variables, puede influir en la lectura de los resultados.
