In previous studies, a semi-synthetic culture medium was optimized for the industrial production of a plant growth-promoting strain of Pseudomonas fluorescens. This work was proposed to develop the ...scale up for producing the biofertilizer. The criteria for scale up were selected taking into account the geometric non-similarity of the fermenters used (42 and 500 liters). The technical effectiveness of the resulting bioproduct was evaluated in liquid formulation on in vitro plants of banana cv. Manzano (Musa AAA) in the acclimatization stage (root immersion 10, 15, 20 and 25 min) and in the field cultivation of Ipomoea batatas applied to the soil at a rate of 20 l ha-1. The results showed that under the conditions tested, bacterial growth was obtained with similar kinetics on two scales. The fermentations concluded 12 hours after the start of the culture. The banana in vitro plants responded better when the immersions in the biofertilizer occurred for 20 min. In the cultivation of sweet potato a positive response was obtained when it was combined with mineral fertilizers and a reduction of 25% of the recommended dose was achieved. The production of a biofertilizer based on Pseudomonas fluorescens can be carried out in a 500 l stirred tank fermenter (effective volume 350 l) for 12 h with stirring speed of 266 rpm and air flow of 105 l min-1 which guarantees a concentration of 1x109 CFU ml-1 and its plant growth promotion effects.
RESUMEN En estudios previos se optimizó un medio de cultivo semisintético para la producción industrial de una cepa de Pseudomonas fluorescens promotora del crecimiento vegetal. Este trabajo se ...propuso desarrollar el escalado para la producción del biofertilizante. Se seleccionaron los criterios para el escalado teniendo en cuenta la no similitud geométrica de los fermentadores utilizados (42 y 500 litros). La efectividad técnica del bioproducto resultante se evaluó en formulación líquida sobre plantas in vitro de banano cv. Manzano (Musa AAA) en fase de aclimatización (inmersión de raíces 10, 15, 20 y 25 min) y en el cultivo de esquejes de Ipomoea batatas en campo aplicado al suelo a razón de 20 l ha-1. Los resultados demostraron que bajo las condiciones ensayadas se obtuvo crecimiento bacteriano con cinética similar en dos escalas. Las fermentaciones concluyeron a las 12 horas de iniciado el cultivo. Las plantas producidas in vitro de banano, respondieron mejor cuando las inmersiones en el biofertilizante ocurrieron durante 20 min. En el cultivo del boniato se obtuvo una respuesta positiva cuando se combinó con fertilizantes minerales y se logró una disminución del 25% de la dosis recomendada. La producción de un biofertilizante a base de Pseudomonas fluorescens puede llevarse a cabo en un fermentador de tanque agitado de 500 l (volumen efectivo de 350 l) durante 12 h con velocidad de agitación de 266 rpm y flujo de aire de 105 l min-1 lo cual garantiza una concentración de 1x109 UFC ml-1 y su efecto promotor del crecimiento en plantas.

Luego de casi tres años y medio sin que existiera en Colombia un desarrollo legal del habeas corpus, el pasado 2 de noviembre de 2006 fue sancionada la Ley Estatutaria 1095, por la cual se reglamentó ...el artículo 30 de la Carta Política. Este cuerpo normativo dispuso que el habeas corpus tenía la naturaleza jurídica de un derecho fundamental y una acción constitucional que tutela la libertad personal cuando alguien es privado de dicha libertad con violación de las garantías constitucionales y legales. Sin embargo, en aplicación del bloque de constitucionalidad, el propio desarrollo de la Ley Estatutaria y la jurisprudencia de la Corte Constitucional, el habeas corpus también se erige como la garantía fundamental que protege los derechos fundamentales colaterales de los detenidos y ostenta la naturaleza de un recurso de amparo. El artículo ofrece un estudio sobre el desarrollo previsto por la Ley Estatutaria de Habeas Corpus en materia de definición, competencia, garantías para el ejercicio de la acción, contenido de la petición, su trámite, decisión y los medios de impugnación susceptibles de impetrar, y analiza críticamente la Sentencia C-187/06 de la Corte Constitucional que realizó el control previo de constitucionalidad; ofrece además una serie de aportes para una interpretación más garantista de la institución y se hacen observaciones de lege ferenda.
Resumen Los objetivos del trabajo fueron analizar la variabilidad genética y la producción de cercosporina in vitro de los aislamientos regionales de Cercospora kikuchii obtenidos a partir de soja ...cultivada en la región centro-norte de la provincia de Santa Fe (Argentina) y evaluar si existía relación entre los perfiles de RAPD obtenidos y la producción de la toxina. Se utilizó la cepa C. kikuchii NBRC 6711 y 13 aislamientos obtenidos de plantas de soja, con síntomas de tizón de la hoja. La producción y cuantificación de cercosporina se analizó previo cultivo en agar papa dextrosa. La toxina se extrajo en medio alcalino y su concentración se determinó por espectrofotometría. La población de C. kikuchii estudiada resultó variable genéticamente, detectándose nueve grupos, y en su capacidad de producir cercosporina in vitro. No se encontró relación entre la producción de la toxina y los perfiles por RAPD.
This doctoral thesis explored whether and how preverbal infants can discover novel words associated with objects and actions from a continuous audiovisual stream. Specifically, we tested infants on ...their ability to associate a novel word that systematically co-occurred with a stationary face (for object-words) and a novel word that systematically co-occurred with moving faces (for action-words). Moreover, this doctoral thesis seeks to explore what phonological cues infants rely on and will help to succeed in this learning process and also if infants can generalize the learning of action-words into new visual stimuli. In study 1 we tested 5-month-old infants on the learning of these two types of words from a continuous audiovisual task. The results showed that in global, most infants learned the image-word associations, however, some of them learned only the objectwords, other only the action-words and others succeeded to learn both. We interpreted such pattern of the results as an index of the interindividual variability especially related to the cognitive resources that the infants recruited to solve the task. In study 2, in a series of 4 experiments, we evaluated older infants i.e. 8-monthold infants and we facilitated the task by adding vowel or consonant harmony to either the object or the action words. The results showed that infants were able to learn both objects and action-words from the continuous audiovisual streams only when words conveyed vowel harmony. We interpreted these results as vowels may have a role in early ages due to the perceptual salience in audiovisual task. An additional experiment in progress, evaluated whether ~7-month-old infants generalized the learning of novel action-words to novel agents (novel moving faces not presented during familiarization). Our results indicated that infants failed to generalize action words to new agents. In sum, the results of these thesis showed that from very early ages infants can associate what they hear with what they see from continuous audiovisual streams, when audiovisual stimuli are interesting and facilitated the task. Such initial associations might correspond to primary forms of the word-mapping observed later steps of language acquisition.
Peptidyl arginine deiminase IV (PAD 4) is the responsible enzyme for a posttranslational modification called citrullination, originating the antigenic determinant recognized by anti-cyclic ...citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPA). Four SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) have been described in PADI4 gene to form a susceptibility haplotype for rheumatoid arthritis (RA); nevertheless, results in association studies appear contradictory in different populations. The aim of the study was to analyze if the presence of three SNPs in PADI4 gene susceptibility haplotype (GTG) is associated with ACPA positivity in patients with RA. This was a cross-sectional study that included 86 RA patients and 98 healthy controls. Polymorphisms PADI4_89, PADI4_90, and PADI4_92 in the PADI4 gene were genotyped. The susceptibility haplotype (GTG) was more frequent in RA patients; interestingly, we found a new haplotype associated with RA with a higher frequency (GTC). There were no associations between polymorphisms and high scores in Spanish HAQ-DI and DAS-28, but we did find an association between RARBIS index and PADI4_89, PADI4_90 polymorphisms. We could not confirm an association between susceptibility haplotype presence and ACPA positivity. Further evidence about proteomic expression of this gene will determine its participation in antigenic generation and autoimmunity.

This study used wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) to investigate the lifestyle of the inhabitants of Malé, the capital of the Republic of Maldives. Raw wastewater 12-h composite samples were ...collected from nine pumping stations serving the city area - thus representative of the whole Malé population. Samples were analysed by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for estimating the profile of use of a large number of substances including illicit drugs, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco and pharmaceuticals. The illicit drugs most used were cannabis (THC) and heroin (700 and 18 g/day), with lower consumption of cocaine and amphetamines (0.1–1.2 g/day). It is important to note that the consumption of cannabis in Malé was comparable to that measured in other countries, while the consumption of heroin was higher. Among cathinones, mephedrone was detected at the highest levels similar to other countries. Consumption of alcohol, which is not allowed in Maldives, was found (1.3 L/day/1000 inhabitants), but at a low level compared with other countries (6–44 L/day/1000 inhabitants), while the consumption of caffeine and tobacco was generally in line with reports from other countries. Unique information on pharmaceuticals use was also provided, since no official data were available. Human lifestyle was evaluated by applying for the first time the full set of WBE methodologies available in our laboratory. Results provided valuable epidemiological information, which may be useful for national and international agencies to understand population lifestyles better, including illicit drug issues, and for planning and evaluation of drug prevention programs in Malé.

RESUMEN La preparación para la inclusión social de los escolares con discapacidad intelectual, en la que converja el estudio de la naturaleza, la sociedad y las relaciones que se establecen entre ...ellas, constituye una necesidad en el sistema educacional en Cuba, dirigido al logro del fin que se aspira en estos. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo proponer una concepción para el estudio geográfico de la localidad, en escolares con discapacidad intelectual, de modo que contribuya a su preparación para la inclusión social. Se utilizaron métodos de investigación entre los que se destacan el histórico-lógico, el análisis documental, la observación a clases, la entrevista a profesores y la prueba pedagógica, los que permitieron constatar el estado inicial de dicho proceso. La búsqueda de información sobre el tema arrojó que esta arista ha sido poco tratada desde lo teórico y lo metodológico; además de reflejar insuficiencias en los maestros, en la dirección del proceso, y las dificultades en el aprendizaje geográfico en los escolares. Considerando los resultados alcanzados y los criterios abordados relacionados con la temática, se elaboró una concepción para el estudio geográfico de la localidad en escolares con discapacidad intelectual y se propuso una metodología que ofrece la vía para su implementación. Los resultados alcanzados evidencian niveles de transformación que demuestran que la concepción propuesta para el estudio geográfico de la localidad contribuye a la preparación para la inclusión social de escolares con discapacidad intelectual.
