Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials have achieved significant research interest in the fields of gas storage and separation over the last two decades because of the need for hydrogen utilization ...and carbon dioxide reduction. Besides, recently numerous functional MOFs have been exploited and applied in the optoelectronic field owing to some unique properties of MOF materials in those photovoltaic devices with enhanced performance and stability. This review focuses on the comprehensive summary of recent representative progress in the applications of MOFs in solar cell devices, including dye-sensitized solar cells, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells, and organic solar cells, aiming to portray their prospects in the future.

Urban sustainable development has attracted widespread attention worldwide as it is closely linked with human survival. However, the growth of urban areas is frequently disproportionate in relation ...to population growth in developing countries; this discrepancy cannot be monitored solely using statistics. In this study, we integrated earth observation (EO) and statistical data monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 11.3.1: “The ratio of land consumption rate to the population growth rate (LCRPGR)”. Using the EO data (including China’s Land-Use/Cover Datasets (CLUDs) and the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program/Operational Linescan System (DMSP/OLS) nighttime light data) and census, we extracted the percentage of built-up area, disaggregated the population using the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model, and depicted the spatial heterogeneity and dynamic tendency of urban expansion and population growth by a 1 km × 1 km grid at city and national levels in mainland China from 1990 to 2010. Then, the built-up area and population density datasets were compared with other products and statistics using the relative error and standard deviation in our research area. Major findings are as follows: (1) more than 95% of cities experienced growth in urban built-up areas, especially in the megacities with populations of 5–10 million; (2) the number of grids with a declined proportion of the population ranged from 47% in 1990–2000 to 54% in 2000–2010; (3) China’s LCRPGR value increased from 1.69 in 1990–2000 to 1.78 in 2000–2010, and the land consumption rate was 1.8 times higher than the population growth rate from 1990 to 2010; and (4) the number of cities experiencing uncoordinated development (i.e., where urban expansion is not synchronized with population growth) increased from 93 (27%) in 1990–2000 to 186 (54%) in 2000–2010. Using EO has the potential for monitoring the official SDGs on large and fine scales; the processes provide an example of the localization of SDG 11.3.1 in China.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) performs a good clinical practice and is showing a bright future in the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). TCM treatment has certain advantages of less toxicity ...and/or side effects, and herbs could provide multiple therapeutic effects. Berberine (BBR) is a classical natural medicine. In this review, we summarize the application of BBR in the treatment of DM from two aspects. First, modern pharmacological effects of BBR on glucose metabolism are summarized, such as improving insulin resistance, promoting insulin secretion, inhibiting gluconeogenesis in liver, stimulating glycolysis in peripheral tissue cells, modulating gut microbiota, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and regulating lipid metabolism. BBR is used to treat diabetic nephropathy (DPN), diabetic neuropathy (DN), and diabetic cardiomyopathy due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Second, the clinical application of BBR is reviewed, such as listing some clinical trials on the effectiveness and safety of BBR, explaining applicable stage and syndrome, the reasonable dose and dose formulation, and the toxicity and/or side effects. This review provides scientific evidence about BBR, as well as introducing some traditional Chinese medical theory and clinical experience, in order to guide clinician to use BBR more suitably and reasonably.

Globally, food waste (FW) and sewage sludge (SS) are among major organic wastes that needs to be properly handled. Anaerobic digestion (AD) has been a widely accepted method to treat those wastes and simultaneously recover energy and nutrients. The objective of this study was to elucidate synergistic effects in co-digestion of FW and SS by incubating at mesophilic and thermophilic conditions. The results demonstrated temperature did not significantly affect the cumulative methane yields (CMY); instead, higher temperature resulted in accelerated methane production. Although not clearly shown on CMYs (less than 10% increase), positive synergistic effects on methane production rates were characterized by a co-digestion impact factor (CIF) during the early phase of co-digestion. This early synergism (up to 24% increase) was primarily attributed to the accelerated hydrolysis due to addition of readily degradable FW, which may have practical implication for selection of retention time in order to optimize digestion process.
Through considerable effort in research and clinical studies, the immune system has been identified as a participant in the onset and progression of brain injury after ischaemic stroke. Due to the ...involvement of all types of immune cells, the roles of the immune system in stroke pathology and associated effects are complicated. Past research concentrated on the functions of monocytes and neutrophils in the pathogenesis of ischaemic stroke and tried to demonstrate the mechanisms of tissue injury and protection involving these immune cells. Within the past several years, an increasing number of studies have elucidated the vital functions of T cells in the innate and adaptive immune responses in both the acute and chronic phases of ischaemic stroke. Recently, the phenotypes of T cells with proinflammatory or anti-inflammatory function have been demonstrated in detail. T cells with distinctive phenotypes can also influence cerebral inflammation through various pathways, such as regulating the immune response, interacting with brain-resident immune cells and modulating neurogenesis and angiogenesis during different phases following stroke. In view of the limited treatment options available following stroke other than tissue plasminogen activator therapy, understanding the function of immune responses, especially T cell responses, in the post-stroke recovery period can provide a new therapeutic direction. Here, we discuss the different functions and temporal evolution of T cells with different phenotypes during the acute and chronic phases of ischaemic stroke. We suggest that modulating the balance between the proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory functions of T cells with distinct phenotypes may become a potential therapeutic approach that reduces the mortality and improves the functional outcomes and prognosis of patients suffering from ischaemic stroke.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of MYC and TP53 comutations on the clinical efficacy of EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in Chinese patients with advanced ...EGFR-positive nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients and methods: Tissue samples and information from 65 patients with advanced NSCLC in Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital were collected and analyzed by next-generation sequencing (NGS). Progression-free survival (PFS) and total survival (OS) were the main endpoints, and the objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were the secondary endpoints. Result: Among 65 patients, 17 had TP53 and MYC wild-type mutations (WT/WT), 36 had TP53 mutant and MYC wild-type mutations (TP53/WT), and 12 had coexisting MYC/TP53 mutations (MYC/TP53). When 12 patients with MYC/TP53 comutation were compared with the other two groups (TP53/WT, WT/WT), mPFS and mOS are significantly lower than those in the other two groups (mPFS: 4.1 months vs 6.0 months, 12.3 months, HR: 0.769, 95% CI: 4.592-7.608, P = .047. mOS: 14.6 months vs 24.1 months, 31.5 months, HR: 3.170, 95% CI: 18.786-31.214, P < .001), and the ORR, DCR of patients with MYC/TP53 comutation was lower than that of the other two groups (ORR, 25% vs 44.4%, 70.6%, P = .045. DCR, 58.3% vs 72.2%, 82.4%, P = .365). Conclusion: Patients with MYC/TP53 comutations with EGFR-positive advanced NSCLC are more likely to develop drug resistance after early treatment with EGFR-TKIs and have a worse clinical outcome.

Although there is no information regarding T-cell immunity, this suggests that while vaccination is certainly still recommended for this population, patients should be strongly encouraged to maintain social distancing precautions and should be revaccinated after an appropriate interval from the end of their antilymphoma therapy.
We report a case of fetal heart rate decelerations and relaxation of pelvic muscles and fetal descent using transperineal ultrasound after initiation of epidural labor analgesia.
A 32-year-old woman, ...G1P0 with gestational age of 40 weeks, required epidural analgesia when her cervical dilatation was 2 cm. Baseline transperineal ultrasound examination was performed before epidural puncture. The fetal heart rate tracing was normal before the initiation of analgesia. Approximately 10 min after the epidural administration of the loading dose, the patient reported onset of analgesia and the FHR tracing showed variable-decelerations. There was no hypotension or evidence of uterine tachysystole. Transperineal ultrasound was performed again after epidural analgesia took effect. The anteroposterior diameter of the levator hiatus increased from 5.3 to 6.6 cm and angle of progress increased from 116°to 133°. The relaxation of pelvic muscle and rapid descent of fetal head may have contributed to the FHR deceleration. The midwife elevated the fetal head through the vagina with her hand, and the FHR recovered soon thereafter.
Changes in fetal heart rate after initiation of neuraxial analgesia are unpredictable. In addition to FHR and tocodynametric monitoring, performing TPU may helpful in distinguishing the reasons for FHR change and initiating corresponding corrective measures.
Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play a predominant role in regulating tumor progression. Understanding how CAFs communicate with osteosarcoma is crucial for developing novel approaches for ...osteosarcoma therapy. Exosomes are able to transmit messages between cells. In this study,
we demonstrated that CAFs transfer exosomes to osteosarcoma cells, which promotes osteosarcoma cell migration and invasion. Using a miRNA microarray analysis, we identified 13 miRNAs that are significantly increased in exosomes derived from cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and corresponding
paracancer fibroblasts (PAFs). In vitro studies further validated that the levels of microRNA-1228 (miR-1228) were increased in CAFs, its secreted exosomes, and in recipient osteosarcoma cells, which can downregulate endogenous SCAI mRNA and protein level in osteosarcoma. Furthermore, our
findings demonstrate that SCAI was downregulated in osteosarcoma tissues. Taken together, this study provides evidence that CAF exosomal miR-1228 is able to promote osteosarcoma invasion and migration by targeting SCAI, which may represent a critical therapeutic target for osteosarcoma treatment.
In this study, a strategy that can result in the polyaniline (PANI) solely confined within the nanopores of a metal–organic framework (MOF) without forming obvious bulk PANI between MOF crystals is ...developed. A water‐stable zirconium‐based MOF, UiO‐66‐NH2, is selected as the MOF material. The polymerization of aniline is initiated in the acidic suspension of UiO‐66‐NH2 nanocrystals in the presence of excess poly(sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate) (PSS). Since the pore size of UiO‐66‐NH2 is too small to enable the insertion of the bulky PSS, the quick formation of pore‐confined solid PANI and the slower formation of well dispersed PANI:PSS occur within the MOF crystals and in the bulk solution, respectively. By taking advantage of the resulting homogeneous PANI:PSS polymer solution, the bulk PANI:PSS can be removed from the PANI/UiO‐66‐NH2 solid by successive washing the sample with fresh acidic solutions through centrifugation. As this is the first time reporting the PANI solely confined in the pores of a MOF, as a demonstration, the obtained PANI/UiO‐66‐NH2 composite material is applied as the electrode material for supercapacitors. The PANI/UiO‐66‐NH2 thin films exhibit a pseudocapacitive electrochemical characteristic, and their resulting electrochemical activity and charge‐storage capacities are remarkably higher than those of the bulk PANI thin films.
