Natural history museum collections can be a helpful tool in documenting changes in biodiversity throughout decades or even centuries. This article uncovers information on the content of three ...different museum collections, collected over 100 years. It deepens the knowledge on the distribution of pyraloid moth species occurring predominantly in the Continental parts of Croatia, but also in other areas of this country. The article presents the first published listing of pyraloid moth species held in three museum collections of the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb. The list contains 148 taxa in total, 61 from the Igalffy collection, 96 from the Koča collection, and 96 from the Kučinić collection. Altogether, 96 species from the family Crambidae and 52 species from the family Pyralidae are listed.
Three specimens of Sciota rhenella were recorded in July 2021 in Zagreb, northwestern Croatia. Although the species was previously mentioned in the literature for Croatia, its first finding was ...published without any given information on the locality and date of collection. As far as we know, the only published information on this species is that it is present in the fauna of Croatia. This paper aims at presenting the first data on the localities and dates of collection of S. rhenella in Croatia. By the provision of new, reliable and evidence-based data, the occurrence of S. rhenella in the country is confirmed. Hereby, a contribution to the knowledge of the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna is also given.
From 2016 to 2020 numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the pyraloid moth fauna of Biokovo Nature Park. On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, ...1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biokovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list.
A bibliography and review of the published records of species from several Microlepidoptera families in Croatia are presented. Altogether 274 species from eight superfamilies, 12 families and 55 ...genera of Microlepidoptera occurring in Croatia are presented. The paper is a summarization of available published records, from historical publications to recent studies. It also includes material collected during field surveys conducted by the second and third author in 2018 and 2019 in Croatia. Eight out of the 61 recorded species were not previously reported from that country and are considered new to its fauna. Furthermore, the findings of 10 species reconfirm their occurrence in the fauna of Croatia, as they are the first recent records in 100 years or more. Except for the families Pyralidae and Crambidae, no checklists for Croatian microlepidopterous families have been published in the form of journal articles. This paper represents a first summary of available published records and a first species list of the families Micropterigidae, Eriocraniidae, Hepialidae, Nepticulidae, Opostegidae, Heliozelidae, Adelidae, Prodoxidae, Incurvariidae and Tischeriidae, and Alucitidae and Pterophoridae in Croatia. By making data about the occurrence of species from these families in Croatia available, this list is a major contribution to the overall knowledge of the Croatian fauna of Microlepidoptera. It aims at increasing the interest in these micromoth families in that country and inspiring future research into this group. It is also hoped that it will encourage the creation of checklists of these microlepidopterous families or even all micromoths in Croatia.
Prvi popis vrsta Pyraloidea Hrvatske objavljen 2019. godine broji 362 vrste. Privremeni popis i bibliografija Pyraloidea Balkanskog poluotoka objavljeni su 2018. godine, no zbog nezgodnog vremenskog ...preklapanja nije uzeta u obzir pri izradi prvog popisa. Ovaj rad donosi nove podatke o 16 dodatnih vrsta iz spomenute publikacije. Uzevši istu u obzir, broj vrsta Pyraloidea u fauni Hrvatske
raste na 377 vrsta. Ažurirani popis sada ukupno broji 207 vrsta por. Crambidae i 170 vrsta por. Pyralidae, što predstavlja oko 45% ukupne europske faune Pyraloidea.
Predstavljen je revidirani popis. Dodatna 31 vrsta koja nije navedena u privremenom popisu Balkanskog poluotoka, a koje su uvrštene u prvi hrvatski popis Pyraloidea, također su raspravljane. Usto, izvršena je usporedba sa susjednim državama regije.
During the last few years, numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. The first author carried out research from 2016 until 2022 on the island of ...Brač in Dalmatia. The second and third authors carried out research in 2018 and 2019 in the area around Zadar in Dalmatia and the region of Lika. The fourth author collected specimens in 2012 and 2022 in the area of Šibenik, Dalmatia, and the fifth author in 2008, in the area of Split, also in Dalmatia. A list of all recorded species from several locations in Dalmatia and Lika is presented, containing the first data on pyraloid moths from the island of Brač. Throughout these surveys, a total of 163 species were recorded, of which nine are new to the Croatian moth fauna. From the family Pyralidae, the following species were recorded for the first time: Aphomia foedella (Zeller, 1839), Apomyelois bistriatella (Hulst, 1887), Delplanqueia inscriptella (Duponchel, 1836), Epischnia asteris Staudinger, 1870, Melathrix coenulentella (Zeller, 1846), Phycita asselbergsi Slamka, 2019 and Phycitodes saxicola (Vaughan, 1870). From the family Crambidae the following species were reported for the first time from Croatia: Hyperlais lutosalis (Mann, 1862), and Pyrausta rectefascialis Toll, 1936. The rare and endangered thermophilic species Ostrinia quadripunctalis (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) and the myrmecophilous Aglossa signicostalis Staudinger, 1870 were also identified. These findings are the second records from Croatia and hereby represent a contribution to their known distribution in Croatia. The finding of two specimens identified as Evergestis infirmalis Staudinger, 1870 – previously unreported from Croatia and the Balkan Peninsula – is presented. DNA barcode data reveal a possible misidentification with all the Evergestis caesialis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1849) identified from Croatia. Images of the imago and the genitalia, as well as the DNA barcode sequences, are also presented. With these nine additions to the checklist, the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna now numbers 406 species.
Godine 2015. objavljen je članak (Richter & Pastorális) u kojem su izneseni podaci o pronalascima novih vrsta mikrolepidoptera iz roda Goniodoma i Coleophora iz nekih balkanskih zemalja (Hrvatska, ...Crna Gora, Makedonija i Bugarska). Pored drugih pronalazaka, u radu je predstavljeno 11 vrsta novih za Balkan i 13 vrsta novih za faunu Hrvatske. Međutim, tri su vrste prethodno zabilježeno na području Hrvatske. Stoga njihovi pronalasci ne predstavljaju ni novu vrstu za Balkan, niti novu vrstu za Hrvatsku.
Dvije navodno nove vrste za Balkan su Coleophora ahenella (Heinemann, 1877) i Coleophora gallipennella (Hübner, 1796), no obje su vrste prethodno zabilježene na prostoru Hrvatske pa njihovi pronalasci ne predstavljaju nove vrste za Balkan. Usto, navodno nova vrsta za faunu Hrvatske, Coleophora bilineella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1855) je također prethodno zabilježena za faunu Hrvatske i njen pronalazak ne predstavlja novu vrstu za faunu Hrvatske.
