A precision measurement by AMS of the antiproton flux and the antiproton-to-proton flux ratio in primary cosmic rays in the absolute rigidity range from 1 to 450 GV is presented based on 3.49×10^{5} ...antiproton events and 2.42×10^{9} proton events. The fluxes and flux ratios of charged elementary particles in cosmic rays are also presented. In the absolute rigidity range ∼60 to ∼500 GV, the antiproton pover ¯, proton p, and positron e^{+} fluxes are found to have nearly identical rigidity dependence and the electron e^{-} flux exhibits a different rigidity dependence. Below 60 GV, the (pover ¯/p), (pover ¯/e^{+}), and (p/e^{+}) flux ratios each reaches a maximum. From ∼60 to ∼500 GV, the (pover ¯/p), (pover ¯/e^{+}), and (p/e^{+}) flux ratios show no rigidity dependence. These are new observations of the properties of elementary particles in the cosmos.
Dapsone is an important medication for the treatment of leprosy, but a life-threatening drug hypersensitivity syndrome develops in some patients. In this report from China, an
HLA-B
locus is ...identified as a strong genetic risk factor for the syndrome.
Dapsone (4-4′-sulfonyldianiline), which was first synthesized in 1908,

We report on a study of the effect of Zn contents on the intragranular and grain boundary precipitation and corrosion behavior of Al-Mg-Si-Cu-Zn alloys. Our results show that with increasing Zn ...content, peak hardness and intragranular precipitation kinetics of the alloys are enhanced, whereas grain boundary precipitation is negatively affected. The complex interactions that occur between intragranular and grain boundary precipitation lead to differences in intergranular corrosion susceptibility for different aging conditions. Our results provide fundamental insight into the intergranular corrosion response in aged Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloys, as a function of Zn contents.

•A novel, light-weight, refractory high-entropy alloy, AlNb2TiV was proposed.•The RHEA has a dendritic microstructure with single-phase B2.•The RHEA shows high specific strength and ...excellent room-temperature deformability.
AlNb2TiV, a novel, light-weight, refractory high-entropy alloy (RHEA), with high specific strength and excellent room-temperature deformability is identified. As cast, it has a dendritic microstructure with an ordered B2 phase, low density (~6.19 g/cm3), excellent specific yield strength (167 MPa*cm3/g) and deformability (strain >1.0 in compression). Slip occurs by glide of 1/2〈111〉 dislocations. Based on previous work, the Ti/Nb ratio of our RHEA falls in the optimal range for easy dislocation motion and good deformability.
A search for light sterile neutrino mixing was performed with the first 217 days of data from the Daya Bay Reactor Antineutrino Experiment. The experiment's unique configuration of multiple baselines ...from six 2.9 GW(th) nuclear reactors to six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512 m and 561 m) and one far (1579 m) underground experimental halls makes it possible to test for oscillations to a fourth (sterile) neutrino in the 10(-3) eV(2)<|Δm(41)(2) |< 0.3 eV(2) range. The relative spectral distortion due to the disappearance of electron antineutrinos was found to be consistent with that of the three-flavor oscillation model. The derived limits on sin(2) 2θ(14) cover the 10(-3) eV(2) ≲ |Δm(41)(2)| ≲ 0.1 eV(2) region, which was largely unexplored.
Liver neoplasm is one of the most fatal malignancies worldwide, among which hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (MIM #114550, https://omim.org/) is the most prevalent type. ABCC1 (MIM *158343) is a ...membrane-bound protein that relies on ATP hydrolysis to transport substrates and is associated with tumour drug resistance and malignant potential. However, the relationship between ABCC1, HCC prognosis, and immune infiltration remains elusive.
We analysed the mRNA expression of ABCC1 using data from public databases. Immunohistochemistry staining was performed to identify ABCC1 expression in tumour samples. We further investigated the correlation between ABCC1 and clinicopathological features. We investigated the connection between ABCC1 and HCC prognosis using survival and Cox regression analyses. We investigated the underlying pathways of ABCC1 in HCC using functional enrichment analysis and GSEA. We determine the relationship between ABCC1 and immune cell infiltration via an integrated immune landscape analysis.
Our investigation revealed the upregulation of ABCC1 expression in HCC (p < 0.01), which was verified in clinical samples (p < 0.01). In addition, ABCC1 is adversely associated with HCC clinical features and prognosis (p < 0.05). GO/KEGG analysis and GSEA identified that ABCC1 participates in multiple immune- and tumour-related pathways (p < 0.05). Immune cell infiltration analysis indicated that ABCC1 was positively correlated with various immune cells, among which, the strongest correlation was with macrophages (p < 0.001). Furthermore, we observed significant variations in immune checkpoints between the ABCC1-low and ABCC1-high groups (p < 0.01). This indicated that patients with a high expression of ABCC1 might respond poorly to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy (p = 9.2e-07).
Our study identified ABCC1 as a predictor of HCC prognosis and response to therapy.
► Phytoplankton toxicity of chlortetracycline was examined first time. ► The toxicity of antibiotic UV-degraded products was also reported first time. ► The toxic effect on phytoplankton growth and ...photosynthesis function was compared.
Two common freshwater phytoplankton species Microcystis aeruginosa and Scenedesmus obliquus were employed as test organisms to investigate the toxic effects of chlortetracycline widely used in human medicine and veterinary as antibiotic. Toxicity assays were performed into two parts: antibiotic toxicity test and antibiotic degraded products toxicity test. In general, chlortetracycline had significantly toxic effect on population growth and chlorophyll-a accumulation of two phytoplankton. Although M. aeruginosa had ability to grow after exposed to chlortetracycline at 0.5mgL−1, its photosynthesis function was also disrupted. Compared with the data in two phytoplankton species, the chlorophyceae was more sensitive than the cyanophyceae. The adverse effect on S. obliquus was stronger than that on M. aeruginosa with increasing concentrations. In addition, for M. aeruginosa, regardless of the UV light degradation time, the treated chlortetracycline also had adverse effect on population growth and chlorophyll-a accumulated. The degraded chlortetracycline under any treatment time was more toxic for S. obliquus than chlortetracycline itself excluding under 24h. However, the correlation between the toxicity and degradation time was not clear and toxicity enhanced in fact did not follow the increase or decrease in degradation time. Our study showed that the antibiotic chlortetracycline and its degraded products had adverse effect on freshwater phytoplankton, the former has not been reported before and the latter has been overlooked in other research in the past.
The four R-spondins (RSPO1-4) and their three related receptors LGR4, 5 and 6 (LGR4-6) have emerged as a major ligand-receptor system with critical roles in development and stem cell survival through ...modulation of Wnt signaling. Recurrent, gain-of-expression gene fusions of RSPO2 (to EIF3E) and RSPO3 (to PTPRK) occur in a subset of human colorectal cancer. However, the exact roles and mechanisms of the RSPO-LGR system in oncogenesis remain largely unknown. We found that RSPO3 is aberrantly expressed at high levels in approximately half of Keap1-mutated lung adenocarcinomas (ADs). This high RSPO3 expression is driven by a combination of demethylation of its own promoter region and deficiency in Keap1 instead of gene fusion as in colon cancer. Patients with RSPO3-high tumors (~9%, 36/412) displayed much poorer survival than the rest of the cohort (median survival of 28 vs 163 months, log-rank test P<0.0001). Knockdown (KD) of RSPO3, LGR4 or their signaling mediator IQGAP1 in lung cancer cell lines with Keap1 deficiency and high RSPO3-LGR4 expression led to reduction in cell proliferation and migration in vitro, and KD of LGR4 or IQGAP1 resulted in decrease in tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. These findings suggest that aberrant RSPO3-LGR4 signaling potentially acts as a driving mechanism in the aggressiveness of Keap1-deficient lung ADs.
Data from clinical trials of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines showed that women naïve (negative for both type-specific antibodies and DNA) to vaccine types would derive benefit from vaccination; ...therefore, an understanding of the proportion of naïve women in different age groups is important for developing HPV vaccination strategies.
From November 2012 to April 2013, a total of 7372 healthy women aged 18–45 years were recruited in five provinces in China. Cervical specimens and serum samples were collected for each woman at entry. Cervical specimens were first tested by the HPV DNA enzyme immunoassay method; if positive, the specimens were then tested by reverse hybridization line probe assay and HPV-16 and HPV-18 specific polymerase chain reactions. Neutralizing antibodies against HPV-16 or HPV-18 were tested with a pseudovirion-based neutralization assay.
The overall prevalence of high-risk HPV DNA was 14.8% (1088/7367, 95% CI 14.0–15.6), and the seroprevalence of neutralizing antibodies against HPV-16 and HPV-18 was 12.6% (925/7367) and 4.9% (364/7367), respectively. In younger women (18–26 years) and middle-aged women (27–45 years), 83.8% (3116/3719) and 81.4% (2968/3648) were naïve to both HPV-16 and HPV-18 (both neutralizing antibodies and DNA were negative), respectively. In addition, 98.5% (3664/3719) and 98.0% (3575/3648) of the younger or middle-aged women were naïve to at least one HPV type (HPV-16 or HPV-18).
This study revealed that the majority of Chinese women aged 18–26 years and 27–45 years were naïve to both HPV-16 and HPV-18 and would thus derive full benefit from bivalent HPV vaccination.
