Abstract We present an updated characterization of the TOI-1685 planetary system, which consists of a P b = 0.69 day ultra-short-period super-Earth planet orbiting a nearby ( d = 37.6 pc) M2.5V star ...(TIC 28900646, 2MASS J04342248+4302148). This planet was previously featured in two contemporaneous discovery papers, but the best-fit planet mass, radius, and bulk density values were discrepant, allowing it to be interpreted either as a hot, bare rock or a 50% H 2 O/50% MgSiO 3 water world. TOI-1685 b will be observed in three independent JWST Cycle 2 programs, two of which assume the planet is a water world, while the third assumes that it is a hot rocky planet. Here we include a refined stellar classification with a focus on addressing the host star’s metallicity, an updated planet radius measurement that includes two sectors of TESS data and multicolor photometry from a variety of ground-based facilities, and a more accurate dynamical mass measurement from a combined CARMENES, InfraRed Doppler, and MAROON-X radial velocity data set. We find that the star is very metal-rich (Fe/H ≃ +0.3) and that the planet is systematically smaller, lower mass, and higher density than initially reported, with new best-fit parameters of R pl = 1.468 − 0.051 + 0.050 R ⊕ and M pl = 3.03 − 0.32 + 0.33 M ⊕ . These results fall in between the previously derived values and suggest that TOI-1685 b is a hot rocky planet with an Earth-like density ( ρ pl = 5.3 ± 0.8 g cm −3 , or 0.96 ρ ⊕ ), high equilibrium temperature ( T eq = 1062 ± 27 K), and negligible volatiles, rather than a water world.
Cognitive decline creates substantial morbidity and cost in Parkinson's disease (PD) and clinicians have limited tools for counseling patients on prognosis. We aimed to use data from a randomized, ...controlled trial of isradipine in Parkinson's disease (STEADY-PD III) to determine which objective cognitive domain deficits drive patient complaints of cognitive symptoms.
Neuro-Quality of Life (Neuro-QoL) Cognition: General Concerns (GC), and Cognition: Executive Function (EF) (subjective measures), were administered at baseline, 1, 2, and 3 years in 324 people with PD. Baseline Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was divided into 4 domains: visuospatial/executive, memory, attention, and language (objective measures). Spearman rank correlations and multiple regression models adjusted for other clinical variables evaluated associations between baseline Neuro-QoL domains and individual MoCA domains. Multiple regression models evaluated the association between baseline MoCA domain performance and Neuro-QoL change over three years. Cox proportional hazards predicted development of PD-MCI based on baseline and time-varying Neuro-QoL reporting.
Higher MoCA memory performance was associated with better Neuro-QoL-GC (β = 0.75, SE = 0.391, p = 0.05) and Neuro-QoL-EF (β = 0.81, SE = 0.36, p = 0.02) at baseline. There was a trend for baseline MoCA memory to predict the degree of subjective cognitive decline on the Neuro-QoL-EF (β = 0.70, SE = 0.42, p = 0.09). Baseline depression and anticholinergic use were associated with worsened Neuro-QoL-EF and Neuro-QoL-GC. Increasing subjective cognitive complaints in Neuro-QoL-EF were associated with development of PD-MCI over 3 years of follow-up (HR = 0.95, CI = 0.90–1.0, p = 0.039).
Objective memory impairment may be a stronger predictor than executive or visuospatial dysfunction for the presence of subjective cognitive complaints in early PD.
•Cognitive dysfunction is present in early, untreated PD.•Better objective memory performance was associated with higher quality of life in cognitive domains.•Depression and anticholinergics were associated with worsened quality of life in cognitive domains.•Subjective reports of executive dysfunction are associated with future mild cognitive impairment in PD.
We present new spectroscopic and photometric observations of the transiting exoplanetary system WASP-3. Spectra obtained during two separate transits exhibit the Rossiter-McLaughlin (RM) effect and ...allow us to estimate the sky-projected angle between the planetary orbital axis and the stellar rotation axis, {lambda} = 3.3{sup +2.5}{sub -4.4} deg. This alignment between the axes suggests that WASP-3b has a low orbital inclination relative to the equatorial plane of its parent star. During our first night of spectroscopic measurements, we observed an unexpected redshift briefly exceeding the expected sum of the orbital and RM velocities by 140 m s{sup -1}. This anomaly could represent the occultation of material erupting from the stellar photosphere, although it is more likely to be an artifact caused by moonlight scattered into the spectrograph.

The supercontinent Rodinia is hypothesized to have been assembled and positioned in tropical latitudes by the early Neoproterozoic Era. Paleomagnetic data from limestones of Svalbard and basaltic ...dikes of South China have been interpreted to record rapid changes in paleogeography driven by true polar wander that may have rotated the supercontinent in association with the ~800 Ma Bitter Springs carbon isotope event. To further constrain early Neoproterozoic paleogeography and to test proposed rapid rotations, we have developed sequence- and chemo-stratigraphically constrained paleomagnetic data from the Bitter Springs Formation of the Amadeus Basin of central Australia. A new paleomagnetic pole for the post-Bitter Springs stage ~770 Ma Johnny's Creek Member (Bitter Springs Formation) provides a positive test for a long-lived history of Australia and Laurentia in a single supercontinent as its similar position to late Mesoproterozoic north Australia poles reproduces the closure of the Laurentian "Grenville Loop." This new pole also provides support for the hypothesis that there was significant rotation between north and south+west Australia at the end of the Neoproterozoic as this rotation brings the south+west Australia ~755 Ma Mundine Well pole into much closer proximity to the north Australia Johnny's Creek pole. Syn-Bitter Springs stage carbonates of the Love's Creek Member of the formation contain a well-behaved remanence held by magnetite. The direction of this remanent magnetization falls on the Cambrian portion of Australia's apparent polar wander path suggesting that the magnetite may have formed authigenically at that time. If primary, the Love's Creek direction is consistent with the true polar wander hypothesis for the Bitter Springs stage, is internally consistent with the relative sea level changes inferred from the formation, and can constrain Australia to a SouthWest North America East AnTarctica (SWEAT) fit. A remanence held by pyrrhotite in carbonates of the Bitter Springs Formation corresponds to the apparent polar wander path of Australia at ~350 Ma. This component can be used to constrain the history of the Devonian-Carboniferous Alice Springs Orogeny as it demonstrates that regional folding of basinal sediments occurred prior to ~350 Ma, but that the latest stages of tectonism in the hinterland drove fluids through the sediments that altered redox conditions to favor pyrrhotite precipitation. T-regulatory cells (Treg) and mast cells (MC) are abundant in colorectal cancer (CRC) tumors. Interaction between the two is known to promote immune suppression or loss of Treg functions and ...autoimmunity. Here, we demonstrate that in both human CRC and murine polyposis the outcome of this interaction is the generation of potently immune suppressive but proinflammatory Treg (ΔTreg). These Treg shut down IL10, gain potential to express IL17, and switch from suppressing to promoting MC expansion and degranulation. This change is also brought about by direct coculture of MC and Treg, or culture of Treg in medium containing IL6 and IL2. IL6 deficiency in the bone marrow of mice susceptible to polyposis eliminated IL17 production by the polyp infiltrating Treg, but did not significantly affect the growth of polyps or the generation of proinflammatory Treg. IL6-deficient MC could generate proinflammatory Treg. Thus, MC induce Treg to switch function and escalate inflammation in CRC without losing T-cell-suppressive properties. IL6 and IL17 are not needed in this process.
A 25-year-old woman ingested a quarter. Three days later, lower abdominal pain, fever, chills, and physical findings compatible with pelvic inflammatory disease developed. Radiographic examination ...showed the coin in the middle pelvis. Persistent abdominal complaints, abnormal physical examination, and failure of the coin to progress through the gastrointestinal tract despite conservative management led to surgical intervention. Exploration revealed an inflammatory process in the posterior uterine culde-sac with multiple omental, small bowel, and uterine adhesions due to perforation of a Meckel's diverticulum. Excision of the Meckel's diverticulum was done, and the patient recovered satisfactorily.

The Quick Urban & Industrial Complex (QUIC) atmospheric transport, and dispersion modelling, system was evaluated against the Joint Urban 2003 tracer-gas measurements. This was done using the wind ...and turbulence fields computed by the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. We compare the simulated and observed plume transport when using WRF-model-simulated wind fields, and local on-site wind measurements. Degradation of the WRF-model-based plume simulations was cased by errors in the simulated wind direction, and limitations in reproducing the small-scale wind-field variability. We explore two methods for importing turbulence from the WRF model simulations into the QUIC system. The first method uses parametrized turbulence profiles computed from WRF-model-computed boundary-layer similarity parameters; and the second method directly imports turbulent kinetic energy from the WRF model. Using the WRF model’s Mellor-Yamada-Janjic boundary-layer scheme, the parametrized turbulence profiles and the direct import of turbulent kinetic energy were found to overpredict and underpredict the observed turbulence quantities, respectively. Near-source building effects were found to propagate several km downwind. These building effects and the temporal/spatial variations in the observed wind field were often found to have a stronger influence over the lateral and vertical plume spread than the intensity of turbulence. Correcting the WRF model wind directions using a single observational location improved the performance of the WRF-model-based simulations, but using the spatially-varying flow fields generated from multiple observation profiles generally provided the best performance.
We discovered that the survival and growth of many primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) samples and cell lines, but not normal CD34+ cells, are dependent on SIRT5, a lysine deacylase implicated in ...regulating multiple metabolic pathways. Dependence on SIRT5 is genotype-agnostic and extends to RAS- and p53-mutated AML. Results were comparable between SIRT5 knockdown and SIRT5 inhibition using NRD167, a potent and selective SIRT5 inhibitor. Apoptosis induced by SIRT5 disruption is preceded by reductions in oxidative phosphorylation and glutamine utilization, and an increase in mitochondrial superoxide that is attenuated by ectopic superoxide dismutase 2. These data indicate that SIRT5 controls and coordinates several key metabolic pathways in AML and implicate SIRT5 as a vulnerability in AML.
