Summary of the long term data taking, related to one of the proposed next generation ground-based gravitational detector’s location is presented here. Results of seismic and infrasound noise, ...electromagnetic attenuation and cosmic muon radiation measurements are reported in the underground Matra Gravitational and Geophysical Laboratory near Gyöngyösoroszi, Hungary. The collected seismic data of more than two years is evaluated from the point of view of the Einstein Telescope, a proposed third generation underground gravitational wave observatory. Applying our results for the site selection will significantly improve the signal to noise ratio of the multi-messenger astrophysics era, especially at the low frequency regime.
A portable cosmic particle tracking detector has been developed by the REGARD group with angular resolution of 10 mrad. The Close Cathode Chamber-based tracking system is optimized for environmental ...and geophysical applications with its weight of 15 kg and size of 51 cm × 43 cm × 32 cm. Our aim was to determine the cosmic background at the site of the proposed accelerator and experimental facilities at an approximate 50 meter depth in Felsenkeller, Dresden, Germany. Here, we present our high-precision muon flux measurements, which have been performed during 44 days in one of the tunnels. Angular acceptance of our mapping covered full 2π solid angle of the upper hemisphere. The maximum flux value is found to be below 2.5 m-2sr-1s-1.

Micropattern Gaseous Detectors opened a novel way for photon detection for RICH applications; mostly using hole-type amplifiers like GEM and ThickGEM in cascaded or hybrid structures. The main ...features are low ion backflow, high gain, and possibility for suppressing the MIP signal. This suppression can enhance the dynamic range, and allow for high gain operation, while using cost effective electronics.
A ThickGEM and wire chamber based hybrid was constructed, and tested in particle beam as RICH detector. Systematic studies on the MIP suppression with the usage of ThickGEMs were carried out. The dependence on field configuration and the effective gain of the ThichGEM were measured and quantified.
COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at CERN SPS aimed to study hadron structure and spectroscopy. Hadron identification in the momentum range between 3 and 55 GeV/c is provided by a large gaseous ...Ring Imaging Cherenkov Counter, RICH-1. To cope with the challenges imposed by the new physics program of COMPASS, RICH-1 has been upgraded by replacing four MWPC-based photon detectors with newly developed MPGD-based photon detectors. The architecture of the novel detectors is a hybrid combination of two layers of THGEMs and a Micromegas. The top of the first THGEM is coated with CsI acting as a reflective photo-cathode. The anode is segmented in pads capacitively coupled to the APV-25 based readout. The new hybrid detectors have been commissioned during the 2016 COMPASS data taking and stably operated during the 2017 run. In this paper design, construction, operation and performance aspects of the novel photon detectors for COMPASS RICH-1 are discussed.
After pioneering gaseous detectors of single photon for RICH applications using CsI solid state photocathodes in MWPCs within the RD26 collaboration and by the constructions for the RICH detector of ...the COMPASS experiment at CERN SPS, in 2016 we have upgraded COMPASS RICH by novel gaseous photon detectors based on MPGD technology. Four novel photon detectors, covering a total active area of 1.5 m2, have been installed in order to cope with the challenging effciency and stability requirements of the COMPASS physics programme. They are the first application in an experiment of MPGD-based single photon detectors. All aspects of the upgrade are presented, including engineering, mass production, quality assessment and performance. Perspectives for further developments in the field of gaseous single photon detectors are also indicated.
A micropattern and wire chamber hybrid has been constructed for UV photon detection, and its performance evaluated. It is revealed that such combination retains some key advantages of both the ...Thick-GEM primary and CCC secondary amplification stages, and results in a high gain gaseous photon detector with outstanding stability. Key features such as MIP suppression, detection efficiency and photon cluster size are discussed. The capability of the detector for UV photon detection has been established and proven with Cherenkov photons in particle beam tests.

This study evaluated the impact of a comprehensive CDMP, My Health Guardian (MHG), on rate of hospital admissions, readmissions, and average length of hospital stay (ALOS) for insured individuals with heart disease or diabetes. =23,077) using a difference-in-differences approach with the year before program commencement serving as baseline and the subsequent 12 or 18 months serving as the program periods. All outcomes were evaluated for the total study population and for disease-matched subgroups (heart disease and diabetes). Statistical tests were performed using multivariate regression controlling for age, sex, number of chronic diseases, and past hospitalization status. After both 12 and 18 months, treatment members displayed decreases in admissions (both,

≤0.001) and readmissions (both,

≤0.01), and ALOS after 18 months (

≤0.01) versus the comparison group; magnitude of impact increased over time for these 3 measures. All outcomes for both disease-matched subgroups directionally mirrored the total study group, but the diabetes subgroup did not achieve significance for readmissions or ALOS. The RICH detector of the COMPASS Experiment at CERN SPS is undergoing an important upgrade: the central MWPC-based photon detectors have been replaced with novel Micropattern detectors, to cope with ...the challenging efficiency and stability requirements of the new COMPASS measurements. The new hybrid MPGD detector consists of two layers of ThickGEMs and a capacitive bulk Micromegas. Photoconversion takes place on the CsI layer deposited onto the first ThickGEM, while position information and signals are read out from the pad-segmented anode via capacitive coupling by analog front-end electronics based on APV25 chips. The paper focuses on the main issues of production, detailed quality assessment technique, and the commissioning status of the first in-experiment MPGD-based photon detectors for RICH application.
We report on the R&D results for a Very High Momentum Particle Identification (VHMPID) detector, which was proposed to extend the charged hadron track-by-track identification in the momentum range ...from 5 to 25 GeV/c in the ALICE experiment at CERN. It is a RICH detector with focusing geometry using pressurized perfluorobutane (C sub(4)F sub(8)O) as a Cherenkov radiator. A MWPC with a CsI photocathode was investigated as the baseline option for the photon detector. The results of beam tests performed on RICH prototypes using both liquid C sub(6)F sub(14) radiator (in proximity focusing geometry for reference measurements) and pressurized C sub(4)F sub(8)O gaseous radiator will be shown in this paper. In addition, we present studies of a CsI based gaseous photon detector equipped with a MWPC having an adjustable anode-cathode gap, aiming at the optimization of the chamber layout and performance in the detection of single photoelectrons.
