Patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PF OA) is exceptionally predominant and limiting. However, little is known about the risk factors that contribute to its onset and progression.
The aim of this study ...was to decide if women with PF OA descend stairs using different muscular activation strategies compared to similarly aged healthy controls.
Thirty-one women with isolated PF OA and 11 similarly aged healthy women took part in this study. The activation onset and duration of PF OA in vastus medialis oblique (VMO), vastus lateralis (VL), gluteus medius (GM), transversus abdominis (TrA), and multifidus muscles were evaluated during the stair descent task using surface electromyography (EMG).
There was a non-significant difference between women with PF OA and healthy controls regarding all tested variables, except for the GM activation onset that was significantly delayed in women with PF OA, with the
-value of 0.011.
The causes of PF OA differ and might not always be due to a lack of quadriceps strength or VMO activation deficiency, and prospective longitudinal studies are required to confirm this assumption.
Objective: To examine the influence of virtual reality (VR) on pain and anxiety among post mastectomy menopause patients. Materials and Methods: Thirty females experiencing unilateral post-mastectomy ...shoulder pain and anxiety were randomly assigned into two equally sized groups. Group (A) which received a combination of VRand traditional physical therapy care. Group (B) which received traditional physical therapy care. A smart phone-based version of the visual analogue scale (VAS) was employed for pain assessment, while the anxiety rating scale was utilized to evaluate anxiety levels. Each group received three treatment sessions per week for three weeks.Patients were recruited from Om Elmasreen hospital and age ranged between 45-55 years. Results: Study results showed that there were no significant differences in ages between both groups statistically. Pain severity in study group had a lower mean score than those in control group, with a significant difference between two groups after the treatment statistically. Most of patients undergoing unilateral post-mastectomy reported being contended with virtual reality treatment, and there was a significant difference in anxiety between both groups statistically. Conclusion: Virtual reality demonstrates efficacy in alleviating pain and anxiety among post mastectomy menopausal patients.
Introduction
To explore the effect of myofascial release on electrophysiological and clinical measures of pregnant women with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
Methods
Randomized controlled trial. ...Overall, 30 pregnant women with CTS, aged 25–35 years, were randomized into 2 equal groups. The control group only wore a neutral wrist splint during sleeping for 4 weeks, while the study group received a myofascial release in addition to wearing a neutral wrist splint during sleeping for 4 weeks. All pregnant women in both groups were evaluated pre- and post-treatment with median nerve distal motor latency and Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire to assess pain, numbness, and tingling sensation severity, as well as hand function.
Results
Comparing both groups post-treatment revealed that there was a statistically highly significant decrease in median nerve distal motor latency, pain intensity, numbness, and tingling sensation severity, as well as in weakness and difficulty in grasping severity (p < 0.001) in favour of the study group.
Conclusions
Myofascial release is an effective method for improving electrophysiological and clinical measures of pregnant women with CTS.
