With both ferrocene and air as the redox catalysts, for the first time, the low-cost natural ilmenite (FeTiO3) was successfully used for photocatalytic bond formations. Under the assistance of a ...traceless H-bond, and HCHO as the methylene reagent, a variety of imidazo1,5-aquinoxalinones were semi-heterogeneously photosynthesized in high yields with good functional group compatibility.
A general and efficient method for the synthesis of various selanyl phenanthrenes/polycyclic heteroaromatics through the electrophilic annulation of 2-alkynyl biaryls with diorganyl diselenides under ...metal-free and mild conditions was established. The sulfanyl phenanthrene was also obtained in moderate yields.
In this paper, a double V-shaped metasurface that can efficiently convert linear polarizations of electromagnetic (EM) waves in wideband is proposed. Based on the electric and magnetic resonant ...features of a single V-shaped particle, four EM resonances are generated in a V-shaped pair, leading to significant bandwidth expansion of cross-polarized reflections. The simulation results show that the proposed metasurface is able to convert linearly polarized waves into cross-polarized waves in ultrawideband from 12.4 to 27.96 GHz, with an average polarization conversion ratio (PCR) of 90%. The experimental results are in good agreement with the numerical simulations. Compared to published designs, the proposed polarization converter has a simple geometry but an ultrawideband and hence can be used in many applications, such as reflector antennas, imaging systems, remote sensors, and radiometers. The method can also be extended to the terahertz band.
New molecular signatures are needed to improve the diagnosis of thyroid cancer (TC) and avoid unnecessary surgeries. In this study, we aimed to develop a robust and individualized diagnostic ...signature in TC. Gene expression profiles of tumor and nontumor samples were from 13 microarray datasets of Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and one RNA‐sequencing dataset of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). A total of 1246 samples were divided into a training set (N = 435), a test set (N = 247), and one independent validation set (N = 564). In the training set, 115 most frequent differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among the included datasets were used to construct 6555 gene pairs, and 19 significant pairs were detected to further construct the diagnostic signature by a penalized generalized linear model. The signature showed a good diagnostic ability for TC in the training set (area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) = 0.976), test set (AUC = 0.960), and TCGA dataset (AUC = 0.979). Subgroup analyses showed consistent results when considering the type of nontumor samples and microarray platforms. When compared with two existing molecular signatures in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules, the signature (AUC = 0.933) also showed a higher diagnostic ability (AUC = 0.886 for a 7‐gene signature and AUC = 0.892 for a 10‐gene signature). In conclusion, our study developed and validated an individualized diagnostic signature in TC. Large‐scale prospective studies were needed to further validate its diagnostic ability.
We develop and validate an individualized diagnostic signature in thyroid cancer.
The first paired electrolysis-enabled arylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones was achieved using cyanoarenes as the arylation reagents. A variety of 3-arylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with various important ...functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields under metal- and chemical oxidant-free conditions. With a pair of reductive and oxidative processes occurring among the substrates and reaction intermediates, the power consumption can be dramatically reduced.

Six new compounds (huangjusus A-F), including three caffeic acid glycosides (1–3), one quinic acid derivative (4), one dihydroflavone glycoside (11) and one monoterpene (31), together ...with thirty-eight known compounds (5–10, 12–30, 32–44), were obtained from “Jinsi Huangju” (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.) flowers. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of the data obtained from different spectroscopic techniques. Among these compounds, five new (1–4 and 11) and ten known (5–9, 12, 13, 17, 40, and 42) compounds demonstrated significant 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging effects with IC50 values of 4.22–19.90 μM. Furthermore, three new compounds (1, 11, and 31) and seven known compounds (13, 19, 21, 29, 30, 39, and 41) exhibited potent hepatoprotective activities against N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP)-induced toxicity in HepG2 cells with the cell survival rates of 61.53 %, 63.55 %, 60.01 %, 63.05 %, 59.75 %, 59.15 %, 61.07 %, 62.72 %, 58.86 %, and 58.76 % (positive control bicyclol, 58.41 %), respectively, at a concentration of 10 μM. These results indicate the potency of the flowers against radicals and in hepatoprotections.
Yiqi Peiyuan (YQPY) prescription, a composite prescription of traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to prevent or delay the continued deterioration of renal function after acute kidney injury ...(AKI) in some institutions and has shown considerable efficacy.
This is the first randomized controlled trial to assess efficacy and safety of YQPY for improving short-term prognosis in adult patients with AKI.
This is a prospective, double-blind, multicenter, randomized, and placebo-controlled clinical trial. A total of 144 enrolled participants were randomly allocated to two groups according to a randomization schedule. Participants, caregivers and investigators assessing the outcomes were blinded to group assignment. Patients in the YQPY group received 36 g YQPY granules twice a day for 28 days. Patients in the placebo group received a placebo in the same dose as the YQPY granules.
The primary outcome was the change in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between baseline and after 4 and 24 weeks of treatment. The secondary outcomes were the change of serum creatinine (Scr) level between baseline and after treatment, and the incidence of endpoint events, defined as eGFR increasing by more than 25% above baseline, eGFR >75 mL/min per 1.73 m2 or the composite endpoint, which was defined as the sum of patients meeting either of the above criteria.
Data from a total of 114 patients (59 in the YQPY group and 55 in the control group) were analyzed. The mean changes in eGFR and Scr in weeks 4 and 24 had no difference between the two groups. In further subgroup analysis (22 in the YQPY group and 31 in the control group), the mean change in eGFR after treatment for 4 weeks was 27.39 mL/min per 1.73 m2 in the YQPY group and 5.78 mL/min per 1.73 m2 in the placebo group, and the mean difference between groups was 21.61 mL/min per 1.73 m2 (P < 0.001). Thirteen (59.1%) patients in the YQPY group and 5 (16.1%) in the placebo group reached the composite endpoints (P = 0.002). During the intervention, 2 and 4 severe adverse events were reported in the YQPY and placebo groups, respectively.
The YQPY granules can effectively improve the renal function of patients 4 weeks after the onset of AKI, indicating that it has good efficacy for improving short-term renal outcomes in patients with AKI. The YQPY granules may be a promising therapy for adults with AKI.

Two-dimensional layered materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), are promising materials for future electronics owing to their unique electronic properties. With the presence of a ...band gap, atomically thin gate defined quantum dots (QDs) can be achieved on TMDCs. Herein, standard semiconductor fabrication techniques are used to demonstrate quantum confined structures on WSe

with tunnel barriers defined by electric fields, therefore eliminating the edge states induced by etching steps, which commonly appear in gapless graphene QDs. Over 40 consecutive Coulomb diamonds with a charging energy of approximately 2 meV were observed, showing the formation of a QD, which is consistent with the simulations. The size of the QD could be tuned over a factor of 2 by changing the voltages applied to the top gates. These results shed light on a way to obtain smaller quantum dots on TMDCs with the same top gate geometry compared to traditional GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures with further research.

AIM: To investigate which surgical techniques and perioperative regimens yielded the best survival rates for diabetic rats undergoing gastric bypass. METHODS: We performed Roux-en-Y gastric bypass ...with reserved gastric volume, a procedure in which gastrointestinal continuity was reestablished while excluding the entire duodenum and proximal jejunal loop. We observed the procedural success rate, long-term survival, and histopathological sequelae associated with a number of technical modifications. These included: use of anatomical markers to precisely identify Treitz’s ligament; careful dissection along surgical planes; careful attention to the choice of regional transection sites; reconstruction using full-thickness anastomoses; use of a minimally invasive procedure with prohemostatic pretreatment and hemorrhage control; prevention of hypo-thermic damage; reduction in the length of the procedure; and accelerated surgical recovery using fast-track surgical modalities such as perioperative permissive underfeeding and goal-directed volume therapy. RESULTS: The series of modif ications we adopted reduced operation time from 110.02 ± 12.34 min to 78.39 ± 7.26 min (P 0.01), and the procedural success rate increased from 43.3% (13/30) to 90% (18/20) (P 0.01), with a long-term survival of 83.3% (15/18) (P 0.01). CONCLUSION: Using a number of fast-track and damage control surgical techniques, we have successfully established a stable model of gastric bypass in diabetic rats.
