Xingxing et al examine the case of a 27-year-old Asian man with microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and renal failure. On hospital day 4, hemodialysis was initiated after his creatinine level and ...mental status failed to improve. Transfusion and treatment with erythropoietin increased his hemoglobin levels. On hospital day 14, the patient was discharged on 5 antihypertensive agents, sevelamer to reduce phosphorus blood levels, and erythropoietin with hemodialysis. On ensuing visits, his blood pressure was well controlled, and he had begun transplantation evaluation.
