= 14.4 and 18.4). The WHO-5 Well-Being Index (WHO-5) was used to measure mental well-being and risk for depression. Multinomial logistic regression was used to identify differences in the pattern of associations regarding sociodemographic characteristics and experiences during the pandemic with poor well-being and risk for depression. Our study found that adolescents from socially disadvantaged families faced poorer conditions as regards academic performance, had fewer opportunities to socialise with friends online, and were more likely to feel lonely; they reported lower levels of mental well-being and were at a higher risk for depression. The unemployment of both parents and adolescents' perceptions of family wealth were found to be the most important predictors of depression risk. In addition, experiencing deprivation and economic hardship during the pandemic was also identified as a significant predictor. The study concludes that social and economic conditions were critical determinants of adolescents' mental health during the pandemic and that effective intervention is needed to promote their well-being and reduce inequalities.
Objectives
This paper aims to investigate the association of parental, friends, and personal factors with the risk of alcohol use in a sample of Slovenian adolescents, and whether these associations ...differ by socio-economic status of the school area (SES).
Methods
The survey involved 2946 students of 44 Slovenian primary schools in the school year 2010/2011. The association between sociodemographic characteristics, parental alcohol use and permissiveness to drink, parental monitoring, perception of friends' alcohol use, beliefs towards alcohol, self-esteem and refusal skills, and the probability of recent alcohol use was evaluated through multiple multilevel logistic regression analysis.
Results
Parental alcohol use, parental permissiveness to drink alcohol, low parental monitoring, perception of friends’ alcohol use, positive beliefs towards alcohol use, and low refusal skills were significantly associated with the risk of alcohol use. Parental drinking and permissive attitudes were stronger correlates of alcohol use among adolescents of middle and low SES schools, while friends’ alcohol use and personal factors among adolescents of high SES schools.
Conclusions
Alcohol prevention programs should be tailored to school socio-economic environment taking into account friends and personal determinants among high SES, and parental factors among low SES school students.
Introduction: While the co-use of tobacco and cannabis is common among adolescents, no data on this topic is currently available for Slovenia. The purpose of this study was therefore to explore the ...prevalence and characteristics of tobacco and cannabis co-use in 15-year-old students in Slovenia.Methods: We analysed the data obtained from a representative sample of 15-year-old Slovene students (n = 1615) who took part in the 2014 Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children international cross-sectional survey, and performed a chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression analyses.Results: Lifetime tobacco and cannabis use was reported by 19.5 % of 15-year-old students with no gender difference (p = 0.108) and was associated with history of drunkenness (OR = 8.18, 95 % C.I. 5.74−11.64), friends' use of cannabis (OR = 3.93, 95 % C.I. 2.67−5.79) and tobacco (OR = 1.83, 95 % C. I. 1.25−2.69), and with lower perceived family support (OR = 0.88, 95 % C.I. 0.80−0.97). Current co-use was reported by 7.2 % with no gender difference (p = 0.136) and was associated with a history of drunkenness (OR = 8.06, 95 % C.I. 4.43−14.67), friends' use of cannabis (OR = 3.72, 95 % C.I. 2.23−6.19) and living in a reconstructed family (OR = 3.33, 95 % C. I. 1.74−6.40).Discussion and conclusion: Our study advocates for expanding preventive and cessation programmes from one to more psychoactive substances. Peers and family are the key factors which need to be addressed in theseprogrammes. They can be reached through the school and healthcare systems. Environmental prevention measures, including legislative measures, create environments promoting healthy choices and thus contribute to the reduction of such co-use.

Namen integrativnega pregleda literature je ...pregledati najnovejše raziskave, ki opisujejo, kako se neizvedena zdravstvena nega izraža na duševnem počutju medicinskih sester.Metode: Uporabili smo integrativni pregled literature, izveden v skladu s PRISMA smernicami v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL, Wiley, COBISS.SI in Google Učenjak. Potek iskanja in analize literature je prikazan s pomočjo PRISMA diagrama. Zadetke smo razvrstili glede na raven dokazov. Uporabili smo tematsko analizo vsebine.Rezultati: Skupaj je bilo identificiranih 175 in v končno analizo vključenih 11 virov. Identificirano je bilo 96 kod združenih v 4 kategorije: (1) Telesno, duševno in čustveno počutje, (2) Moralno etične dileme, (3) Sprejemanje odločitev pri delu – prilagajanje, (4) Poklicne in osebne vrednote.Diskusija in zaključek: Neizvedena zdravstvena nega je za medicinske sestre pomemben izvor stisk in stresa, saj zaradi neizvajanja vseh potrebnih aktivnosti v zdravstveni negi prihajajo v neskladje s svojimi osebnimi in poklicnimi vrednotami. Naši rezultati dodajajo vsebinski kontekst in boljše razumevanje posledic neizvedene zdravstvene nege pri medicinskih sestrah. Vsakodnevno odločanje, katere aktivnosti bo potrebno izpustiti, vpliva ne samo na slabše počutje, nezadovoljstvo in izgorelost, ampak celo na zapuščanje delovnih mest in poklica.

Introduction: Monitoring of health behaviours, especially of adolescents, is essential for the future of each nation. Over the last decades, many changes have occurred in all aspects of our lives, ...affecting the health and quality of life of all people, including children and adolescents.Methods: The study is based on a quantitative research method. The survey was conducted on a representative sample of Slovenian 11-, 13- and 15-year-old adolescents, using a standardised international questionnaire (HBSC study – Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children). The survey was carried out with the assistance of school counsellors in the spring of 2002, 2006 and 2010 (n = 15.080). For determining the correlation between two individual years, the chi-square test (c2) was used. The significance level was calculated using the statistical significance value of p ≤ 0.05. Through the Cochran-Armitage trend test, it was established whether a trend existed for the selected indicators in the period between 2002 and 2010.Results: There are some favourable trends, e.g. eating breakfast (p = 0.000), tooth brushing (p = 0.000), lower proportion of individuals who rate their health as poor (p = 0.002) and experience several psychosomatic symptoms (p = 0.000), but also unfavourable trends, e.g. decrease in physical activity (p = 0.023), increase in early alcohol consumption (p = 0.000), dissatisfaction with school (p = 0.000) and bullying others (p = 0.000).Discussion and conclusion: The conclusions of the analyses can serve as a useful basis for further work and development of systemic measures to promote healthy behaviours and prevent risky and unhealthy behaviours among children and adolescents.
Background The COVID-19-pandemic has had a profound impact on the lives of adolescents worldwide. This study examined the subjective perception of the COVID-19 pandemic measures and its association ...with mental health and well-being (i.e., loneliness, life satisfaction and multiple health complaints) among 13- and 15-years-old adolescents from 22 countries. Methods Data from the cross-national Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) 2021/22 study were used from representative samples of 22 countries (N = 67,544; 51.9% girls). The self-perceived impact of COVID-19 measure comprised 10 items asking about the impact on several dimensions of adolescent lives (e.g., relationships with family and friends, health, or eating behaviours). Measures of loneliness, multiple health complaints, and life satisfaction were included as indicators of mental health and well-being. A non-parametric multilevel latent class analysis considering individual and country-levels was conducted to identify classes of self-perceived impact of the COVID-19 measures. Multilevel logistic regression models adjusted by age and socioeconomic status were applied to assess the association between COVID-19 measure impact classes and mental health. Results Three classes were identified on individual level encompassing a neutral (51%), positive (31%), or negative (18%) perception of COVID-19 measures. A third of the adolescents reported a positive impact of the pandemic measures. The distribution of classes was heterogeneous within and across countries. Within the positive COVID-19 measure impact class, social relationships were the most important dimension, whereas mental health problems were mostly represented within the negative COVID-19 measure impact class. Girls with a negative perception of pandemic measures showed higher levels of loneliness and multiple health complaints and lower life satisfaction. 15-year-old adolescents and those with a low socioeconomic status reported higher levels of loneliness and lower life satisfaction. Conclusions The majority of adolescents perceived the pandemic measures as neutral or positive. Girls, 15-year-old adolescents, and those with low socioeconomic status were at higher risk of suffering from pandemic measures and associated problems of loneliness, multiple health complaints, and low life satisfaction. We conclude that adolescent's mental health and well-being should be considered in the decision-making process by ensuring that the unique challenges of adolescents are adequately addressed in policies. We set out to investigate the prevalence of suicidal ideation among Slovene adolescents and to examine the predictive value of gender, depression, loneliness, multiple health complaints, bullying and ...degree of family support for the presence of suicidal thoughts. Our sample consisted out of 1547 15-year-old high-school students which took part in the Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) in 2014. Suicidal ideation was more present in girls, in adolescents with depressive feelings, and in those reporting higher levels of loneliness and multiple health complaints. Being a bully, loneliness and depression were important risk factors, while family support acted as a protective factor.

Mental health has been heavily affected during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study we compared the prevalence of flourishing and languishing mental health during the pandemic and examined which ...factors are associated with either category of positive mental health respectively.
Data from two cross-sectional surveys with nationally representative samples of adult population in Slovenia conducted in 2019 (
= 9,047) and in 2021 (
= 3,429) are used. Positive mental health was measured with Mental Health Continuum-Short Form instrument. Logistic regression was used to examine the associations between flourishing and languishing mental health and relevant COVID-19 specific and other health-related factors.
There was a substantial decrease in the prevalence of flourishing and an increase in the prevalence of languishing mental health during the pandemic. Distribution of both flourishing and languishing mental health followed the socio-economic gradient. Resilience, COVID-19 literacy and changes in family relations, social interactions, and dietary habits were associated with both flourishing and languishing mental health.
Positive mental health of the population worsened during the pandemic, more so in traditionally disadvantaged populations. Public health efforts need to be focused appropriately with an increased emphasis on strengthening resilience and health literacy.
