This study aims to describe the meanings contained in each lyrical verse in the Batanghari Sembilan folk song and to explain clearly the function that arises from each meaning based on the theory of ...Rolland Barthes (1972). In this study, the researcher selected and analyzed only one folk song that contained 13 rhymes with semiotic perspective and explored the socio-cultural context related with the song lyrics. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out by listening to and writing all the song lyrics, then translating them into Indonesian. Afterwards, the data are analyzed based on Rolland Barthes' semiotic theory connected with socio-cultural context. The results of the study show that there are many kinds of meaning such as sadness, lamentation, pity, denial, criticism, pessimism, and gratitude which describe the overall flow of the song. In terms of cultural functions, the Batanghari Sembilan song shows several functions such as the function of expressing feelings, communication, social criticism, cultural preservation, and entertainment. Therefore, folk songs are not only talk about the art and wealth of a region, but also can reflect an implicit meaning, various functions, and identity habits.
This study investigates the percentage of kinship level, separation time, and phonemic correspondence among Acehnese, Devayan, Sigulai, and Jamee languages by applying theories from Keraf (1996) and ...Crowley & Bowern (2010). Data was collected using interviewing, recording, listening, and note-taking techniques. Data analysis applied lexicostatistics and glottochronology techniques. The study's results indicated that Acehnese, Devayan, Sigulai, and Jamee languages were related. Based on the results of lexicostatistical calculations, it is known that the Acehnese-Devayan language, Acehnese-Jamee language, Devayan-Sigulai language, Devayan-Jamee language, and Sigulai-Jamee language can be grouped into (family) while Acehnese-Sigulai language is at the (stock) level. Acehnese and Devayan languages were a single language estimated between 2,054-2,458 years ago. Acehnese and Sigulai languages were a single language around 3,169-3,420 years ago, Acehnese and Jamee languages were a single language in 1,836 -2,206 years ago, Devayan and Sigulai languages were a single language in 1945 -2283 years ago, Devayan and Jamee were a single language in 2114-2,316 years ago, Sigulai and Jamee were a single language between 2,010-2.404 years ago. In addition, phonemic correspondences were also found within the four languages.
Language deviations can seriously impact language rules and norms. Language deviations in non-formal texts can impact the production of formal texts. This study attempts to examine the orthographic ...deviations of the Javanese language in non-formal texts taken through Instagram. This study aims to describe the forms of orthographic deviations on social media. The data of this research are in the form of deviations at the orthographic levels obtained from the data source, namely Instagram through the @dagelan_jowo account. Documentation techniques collected the data. The data obtained were analysed descriptively qualitatively. The results showed that orthographic deviations consisted of phonological spelling errors, errors in capital letters, foreign languages, punctuation marks, and errors in the use of numbers. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that there are still negative attitudes found by Javanese speakers towards their language, as evidenced by the many deviations of Javanese language in both formal and non-formal texts.
This research investigates the genetic relationship between Kerinci, Jambi Malay, and Minangkabau languages by looking at the proportion of genetic relationship, separation time, and sound changes in ...those three languages. The theory used in this research is Keraf's (1996) theory and Crowley & Bowern's (2010) theory. Listening and speaking methods with recording and note-taking techniques were used to provide the data. The data were analysed using grouping methods with lexicostatistics and glottochronology techniques. The results of the analysis are presented using formal and informal methods. This study shows that the three languages are related and come from the same protolanguage. Kerinci and Jambi Malay language are related by 85.5%, Kerinci and Minangkabau language are related by 81%, and Jambi Malay and Minangkabau language are related by 77.5%. Kerinci and Jambi Malay were a single language in 1583—1715 AD, Kerinci and Minangkabau were a single language in 1445—1599 AD, and Jambi and Minangkabau Malay were a single language in 1330—1506 AD. Based on qualitative evidence in the form of sound changes, it can be concluded that Kerinci-Jambi Malay and Kerinci-Minangkabau are at the language level, while Jambi-Minangkabau Malay is at the family level.
The Community Service Program (PkM) was carried out by a team from the Department of Language and Literature, FIB-UGM in Ponjong Village, Ponjong District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special ...Region. In its implementation, the team synergizes with the Regional Government of Gunung Kidul Regency in a sustainable manner (2020-2022). First year 2020, it began with mapping the potential of the area and pre-conditions of PkM by the team together with Community Student Service (KKN) activities. In 2021, the preparation of the activities agenda, socialization, assistance in Community Organization Management (MOM), trainings and community empowerment. In the last year 2022, strengthening, branding tourist attractions in Ponjong Village, publication programs through social media, monitoring and evaluating the sustainability of the program. The result is the understanding of the people of Ponjong Village towards the current situation (pandemic period, pre-normal, and normal) and the formation of a strong and independent institution for tourism awareness groups and local/village economic drivers in utilizing the potential of the "Water Byur" tourist attraction in Ponjong Village.
Saloka is one of Javanese proverbs which includes comparison of human to other objects, such as goods or animals. Concerning on its structure, Javanese saloka can be expressed in various linguistic ...units, for instances word, phrase, even clause. Generally, the use of proverb in Javanese people's everyday life is still solid, especially when it is involved in advice, criticism, or quibble. In addition, another charm of Javanese saloka lies on the choice of vehicles - what is used to depict the object of discussion - in which human is portrayed as a thing or animal. For that reason, this study aims to reveal the use of bird types as a representation of human in Javanese saloka that contains moral values. The approach of qualitative descriptive was utilized in this work, extracting the data from several books of Javanese proverbs collection. Subsequently, the collected data was analysed through semantic metaphor with the help of literature such as journal articles, encyclopaedia, and internet sources. The result of the study shows that there are nine types of bird mentioned in Javanese saloka: beluk 'owl', cocak 'bulbul', dhandhang 'crow', emprit 'Javan munia', glathik 'padda or Java sparrow', jalak 'starling', kontul 'heron', pecník 'cormorant', and peking 'scaly-breasted munia or spice finch'. Likewise, the motivations behind the use of bird types in Javanese saloka include: (1) bird habit; (2) bird colour; (3) bird size; and (4) bird chirp characteristics. To finish, the objective of saloka with bird types as its vehicle is to deliver advise, sympathy, quibble, and praise with the spirit of togetherness, reality, watchfulness, and persona.
Penelitian ini mengkaji hubungan kekerabatan bahasa Jawa dan bahasa Bali. Kedua bahasa itu termasuk rumpun bahasa Autronesia. Oleh karena itu, keduanya sebagai dua bahasa yang berkerabat dan perlu ...diteliti dalam bidang linguistik bandingan pada ranah diakronis. Adapun tahapan yang ditempuh dalam melaksanakan penelitian ini terdiri atas tiga tahap, yaitu tahap penyediaan data, penganalisisan data, dan penyajian hasil analisis data. Penyediaan data dilaksanakan dengan metode simak menggunakan teknik catat dan rekam. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan instrumen 200 kosakata dasar Swadesh. Data kosakata tersebut diperoleh dari penutur asli kedua bahasa. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif menggunakan teknik leksikostatistik dan glotokronologi untuk mencari evidensi kuantitatif, dan korespondensi fonemis untuk mencari evidensi kualitatif. Selanjutnya, data disajikan secara formal dan informal. Hasil penelitian akan dielaborasikan dengan penelitian terdahulu guna mematahkan hipotesis sebelumnya atau memperkuat hipotesis yang ada mengenai kekerabatan kedua bahasa ini.
The rapid development of technology can erode local culture, including myths. This study aims to document spells to repel supernatural beings in the beliefs of the Sundanese community. Specifically, ...this study aims to describe the form, meaning, function, context of use, and relevance of spells to repel supernatural beings in the Sundanese community. This study used qualitative descriptive methods. Data were obtained from interviews and questionnaires. The informants for this study consisted of one shaman and 58 respondents. The interview was conducted on 14 and 26 September 2023. The questionnaire was distributed on 22-25 September 2023. The results of this study show that first, the form and meaning of the spell to repel supernatural beings in the beliefs of the Sundanese community are the lingual forms of anak bedul, anak kunyuk, anak monyet, mata peda, aki, and nini. Second, Sundanese people view the existence of supernatural beings not as a myth. Third, the majority of the Sundanese community thinks that the spell to repel supernatural beings functions to ask for protection from God. Fourth, the spell to repel supernatural beings is only used when visiting empty/abandoned, dirty, and damp places. Fifth, the majority of research respondents considered that supernatural creature barrier spells are still very effective to use in the present and the future. Abstrak Dewasa ini, perkembangan teknologi berpotensi menggerus budaya lokal, tidak terkecuali mitos. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendokumentasikan mantra penghalang makhluk gaib dalam kepercayaan masyarakat Sunda. Secara khusus, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk, makna, fungsi, konteks penggunaan, dan relevansi mantra penghalang makhluk gaib bagi masyarakat Sunda. Agar tujuan penelitian dapat tercapai, penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan teknik wawancara dan teknik sebar kuesioner. Adapun informan penelitian ini terdiri atas satu orang dukun dan 58 responden. Pengumpulan data dilaksanakan pada tanggal 14 dan 26 September 2023 (wawancara) dan tanggal 22 s.d. 25 September 2023 (sebar angket kuesioner). Penelitian ini menemukan lima temuan. Pertama, bentuk dan makna mantra penghalang makhluk gaib yang menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat Sunda memercayai makhluk gaib adalah bentuk lingual anak bedul, anak kunyuk, anak monyet, mata peda, aki dan nini. Kedua, masyarakat Sunda memandang keberadaan makhluk gaib bukanlah sebuah mitos. Ketiga, mayoritas masyarakat Sunda menganggap bahwa fungsi mantra penghalang makhluk gaib adalah untuk memohon perlindungan kepada Allah Swt.. Keempat, mantra penghalang makhluk gaib hanya digunakan pada saat mendatangi tempat kosong/terbengkalai, kotor, dan lembap. Kelima, mayoritas responden penelitian menganggap bahwa mantra penghalang makhluk gaib masih sangat ampuh digunakan pada masa kini dan masa mendatang.
"Reporting verbs indicate a conversation (Romli, 2018:35). In news texts, reporting verbs are used intensively to provide information. This research focuses on the identification of variations, ...frequencies, and the analysis of meaning components as proposed by Nida (1975) regarding the usage of reporting verbs in online news corpus. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a lexical semantic approach. Data were obtained from news texts published by Kompas.com and Detik.com during August 8-10, 2023, with the theme 'Ferdy Sambo's Death Sentence Turned into Life Imprisonment.' Based on the research findings, 17 variations of reporting verbs were found in the news corpus, with the verb 'mengatakan' (to say) being the most dominant with a frequency of 83 occurrences. Meanwhile, based on the analysis of meaning components for the verbs 'mengatakan'(to say), 'menyatakan' (to state), 'menjelaskan' (to explain), and 'menyebut' (to mention), differences in usage were found through the differentiation of the meaning components of each reporting verb. This research is expected to contribute by highlighting the differences in meaning among synonymous verbs to demonstrate the diversity of the Indonesian language vocabulary.
