Current GPS positioning accuracy in urban areas is still unsatisfactory for various applications, including pedestrian navigation and autonomous driving. Due to the ineffectiveness of special ...corrector designs against non-line-of-sight (NLOS) reception, the research regarding NLOS signals has been increasing in the recent years. This study first develops an algorithm to detect NLOS signals from the pseudorange measurements by using a 3D building model, ray-tracing simulation, and known receiver position. According to the analysis of 24 h of collected NLOS data, a new finding is that NLOS pseudorange delay is highly correlated with the elevation angle of satellite instead of the received signal strength. Thus, we further propose an innovative NLOS model using two variables, the elevation angle and the distance between the receiver and building that reflect the NLOS. The proposed model is evaluated in both pseudorange and position domains. Based on the experiment results regarding pseudorange error, the difference between the proposed model and the collected NLOS measurement is very small. Finally, the proposed model is applied to a hypothesis-based positioning method and achieves about 6.3 m in terms of horizontal positioning accuracy, which is only slightly worse than the method applied with ray-tracing simulation.
Factor graph optimization (FGO) recently has attracted attention as an alternative to the extended Kalman filter (EKF) for GNSS‐INS integration. This study evaluates both loosely and tightly coupled ...integrations of GNSS code pseudorange and INS measurements for real‐time positioning, using both conventional EKF and FGO with a dataset collected in an urban canyon in Hong Kong. The FGO strength is analyzed by degenerating the FGO‐based estimator into an “EKF‐like estimator.” In addition, the effects of window size on FGO performance are evaluated by considering both the GNSS pseudorange error models and environmental conditions. We conclude that the conventional FGO outperforms the EKF because of the following two factors: (1) FGO uses multiple iterations during the estimation to achieve a robust estimation; and (2) FGO better explores the time correlation between the measurements and states, based on a batch of historical data, when the measurements do not follow the Gaussian noise assumption.
The present study proposed and tested Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model to explain the formation of hotel customers' intentions to visit a green hotel. The findings showed the TPB model ...has a good fit to the data and better predictive power for intention than the Theory of a Reasoned Action model. Based on theoretical support and suggested modification indices, a refined TPB model was developed. Consistent with the theory, the results of a structural equation analysis revealed that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control positively affected intention to stay at a green hotel. Further investigation indicated the paths between these predictors and intention did not statistically differ between customers who actively practice ecofriendly activities and those who are not often engaged in environmentally conscious behaviors in their everyday lives. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
The current low-cost global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) receiver cannot calculate satisfactory positioning results for pedestrian applications in urban areas with dense buildings due to ...multipath and non-line-of-sight effects. We develop a rectified positioning method using a basic three-dimensional city building model and ray-tracing simulation to mitigate the signal reflection effects. This proposed method is achieved by implementing a particle filter to distribute possible position candidates. The likelihood of each candidate is evaluated based on the similarity between the pseudorange measurement and simulated pseudorange of the candidate. Finally, the expectation of all the candidates is the rectified positioning of the proposed map method. The proposed method will serve as one sensor of an integrated system in the future. For this purpose, we successfully define a positioning accuracy based on the distribution of the candidates and their pseudorange similarity. The real data are recorded at an urban canyon environment in the Chiyoda district of Tokyo using a commercial grade u-blox GNSS receiver. Both static and dynamic tests were performed. With the aid of GLONASS and QZSS, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve a 4.4-m 1σ positioning error in the tested urban canyon area.
As the public is increasingly concerned about environmental issues, green management is rapidly becoming a strategic tool that can enhance a hotel's competitive advantage. This study explores how to ...develop the image and branding of a green hotel using the concepts of cognitive, affective and overall images. The study, based on a survey of 416 hotel users, also investigates how a green hotel image can affect behavioural intentions (i.e. intention to revisit, intention to offer positive recommendations to others and willingness to pay a premium). The findings confirm that cognitive image components (namely value and quality attributes) can exert a positive influence on a green hotel's affective and overall images. The affective image is also found to positively affect a green hotel's overall image. A green hotel's overall image, in turn, can contribute to more favourable behavioural intentions. Quality attributes were found to be more powerful than value attributes. The importance of the concept of selfish altruism and obtaining a feeling of wellbeing from a purchase were shown to be very strong. A range of theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
Abstract We initiate the study of the nonlocal correlations in generic asymmetric quantum networks in a star configuration. Therein, the diverse unrelated sources can emit either partially or ...maximally entangled states, while the observers employ varying numbers of measurement settings. We propose nonlinear Bell inequalities tailored to the distributed entangled states. Specifically, we demonstrate that the algebraic maximal violations of the proposed nonlinear Bell inequalities are physically achievable within the quantum region. To achieve this, we construct the segmented Bell operators through the cut-graft-mix method applied to the Bell operators in the standard Bell tests. Furthermore, we devise the fitting Bell operators using the sum-of-square approach.
This article deals with the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) reception issue in the field of global navigation satellite system (GNSS). The NLOS reception has attracted a significant amount of attention ...because it is one of the main factors that limit the GNSS position accuracy in urban areas. In this article, we dig into the baseband signal processing level to explore a new solution to the NLOS detection and correction by means of the vector tracking loop (VTL). The NLOS effects on both conventional scalar tracking loops (STLs) and VTL are derived mathematically. Based on this, an NLOS detection algorithm is developed using metrics, such as the equivalent noise bandwidth, the time delay of multicorrelator peaks, as well as code discriminator outputs. Once detected, the NLOS-induced measurement error is corrected before being fed forward into the navigation estimator to improve the position accuracy. Two field tests in urban areas in Hong Kong are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in real applications. The NLOS correction performance is also assessed using simulated NLOS receptions with controllable time delays and reflection coefficients, which reveals how the proposed algorithm performs in different NLOS scenarios.

The ...use of synthetic drugs has increased over the recent years, but plant-based drugs are more suitable in terms of least side effects. Since ancient times mankind has been dependent on plants for the treatment of various ailments, among them widely used is curcumin, the principal polyphenol extracted from turmeric. Their medicinal and useful properties are mentioned in Indian Veda’s and Chinese medicine. Curcumin has been studied extensively for its pleiotropic activity, including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-tumor activity. Accumulated evidence indicated curcumin plays an inhibitory role against infection of numerous viruses. These mechanisms involve either a direct interference of viral replication machinery or suppression of cellular signaling pathways essential for viral replication, such as PI3K/Akt, NF-κB. This review summarizes the current state of knowledge with a focus on the anti-viral effect of curcumin, and their possible molecular mechanisms.
Lane-level vehicle self-localization is a challenging and significant issue arising in autonomous driving and driver-assistance systems. The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and onboard ...inertial sensor integration are among the solutions for vehicle self-localization. However, as the main source in the integration, GNSS positioning performance is severely degraded in urban canyons because of the effects of multipath and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagations. These GNSS positioning errors also decrease the performance of the integration. To reduce the negative effects caused by GNSS positioning error, this paper proposes to employ an innovative GNSS positioning technique with the aid of a 3-D building map in the integration. The GNSS positioning result is used as an observation, and this is integrated with the information from the onboard inertial sensor and vehicle speedometer in a Kalman filter framework. To achieve stable performance, this paper proposes to evaluate and consider the accuracy of the employed GNSS positioning method in dynamic integration. A series of experiments in different scenarios is conducted in an urban canyon, which can demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method using various evaluation and comparison processes.
Owing to the increase in civil applications using quadcopters, commercial flight control systems such as Pixhawk are a popular solution to provide the sensing and control functions of an unmanned ...aerial vehicle (UAV). A low-cost global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver is crucial for the low-cost flight control system. However, the accuracy of GNSS positioning is severely degraded by the notorious multipath effect in mega-urbanized cities. The multipath effect cannot be eliminated but can be mitigated; hence, the GNSS/inertial navigation system (INS) integrated navigation is a popular approach to reduce this error. This study proposes an adaptive Kalman filter for adjusting the noise covariance of GNSS measurements under different positioning accuracies. The adaptive tuning is based on a proposed accuracy classification model trained by a supervised machine-learning method. First, principal component analysis is employed to identify the significant GNSS accuracy related features. Subsequently, the positioning accuracy model is trained based on a random forest learning algorithm with the labeled real GNSS dataset encompassing most scenarios concerning modern urban areas. To reduce the cases of misclassifying the GNSS accuracy, a fuzzy logic algorithm is employed to consider the GNSS accuracy propagation. Additionally, the process noise covariance of the INS is determined using the Allan variance analysis. The positioning performance of the proposed adaptive Kalman filter is compared with both a conventional Kalman filter and the positioning solution provided by the commercial flight control system, Pixhawk 2. The results show that the proposed adaptive Kalman filter using random forest with fuzzy logic can achieve a better classification of GNSS accuracy compared to the others. The overall positioning result improved by approximately 50% compared with the onboard solution.
