Performance on waiting time targets by hospital emergency departments in England has fallen to its worst level for a decade, official figures have shown. Cliff Mann, president of the College of ...Emergency Medicine, said that part of the reason for the pressure was that the NHS 111 non-emergency telephone helpline was advising an increasing proportion of people to seek emergency care at hospitals.
Helen Gilburt, mental health policy fellow at the King's Fund and the report's author, said, "Mental health trusts now need the security of stable funding, supported by a national focus on evaluating ...the changes to date, improving practice, and reducing variations in care." Stephen Dalton, chief executive of the NHS Confederation's mental health network, said that the report showed the urgent need for new funding for mental health services.
Specific areas of concern included a lack of paediatric cover within the emergency department and theatres, a poor response rate to call bells, drinks being located out of reach of patients, delays ...in patients receiving pain relief, and difficulties for staff in raising concerns.
The cross-section for deeply virtual Compton scattering in the reaction ep→eγp has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using integrated luminosities of 95.0 pb−1 of e+p and 16.7 pb−1 of e−p ...collisions. Differential cross-sections are presented as a function of the exchanged-photon virtuality, Q2, and the centre-of-mass energy, W, of the γ∗p system in the region 5<Q2<100 GeV2 and 40<W<140 GeV. The measured cross-sections rise steeply with increasing W. The measurements are compared to QCD-based calculations.
Last month a report from the health think tank the King's Fund found that cuts to social care budgets had resulted in the highest level since 2007 in delays in discharge from hospital. 2 Heidi ...Alexander, Labour's shadow health secretary, said, "The cuts to social care are not only bad for older people, who rely on support to keep their dignity and independence, but bad for the NHS too.
