We examined bio-compatibility, solute removal efficiency, U. F. R. and SEM observation of a surface-modified regenerated cellulose membrane dialyzer, which is modified by attaching Vitamin E to ...increase its bin-compatibility (CL-E-15N; hereafter called E-membrane; made by Termo Co.), comparing with conventional dialyzer (CL-S-15N; hereafter called S-membrane).Bio-compatibility: the changes of leucocytes, C3a and oxidized LDL in E-membrane were significantly lower- than those in S-membrane, and the changes of platelets, TAT, t-PA, G-E and MDA were not different between E-membrane and S-membrane. Solute removal efficiency: removal rate, removal quantity and clearance were not different between E-membrane and S-membrane. U. F. R., in E-membrane was higher than that in S-membrane, and was not decreased during hemodialysis. SEM observation: a platelet agglutination on E-membrane was lesser than that on S-membrane and most of the platelets retained a spherical shape on E-membrane, clot and pseudopod were observedon S-membrane From the these results, it was concluded that CL-E-15N had similar solute removal efficiency and better bio-compatibility than conventional regenerated cellulose membrane.
We continuously monitored the alteration rate of the Arterial-Venous pressure difference in the blood circuit (A-V sure) during the hemodialysis and discussed its efficiency in clinical use. 1. ...Significant correlation was seen between the ration rate of A-V pressure and the blood alteration rate of hematocrit and blood viscostiy. 2. There could be seen a significant rate of A-V pressure and the decrement rate of body weight. 3. As for the alteration rate of A-V pressure and that of mean blood pressure, we could see a significant correlation in 6 cases out of 10, which 6 cases did not include the patients with vascular graft or under the dosage of vasopressor drugs. From these results, we have found that the alteration rate of A-V pressure depends on the hemoconcentration due to the decrement of circulation to know the fall of blood pressure by the alteration much removal of water through the alteration rate of A-V pressure. Therefore it seems to be useful to monitor the alteration rate of A-V pressure in clinical field.
The efficacy of polysulfone membrane dialyzers (PS) in removing β2-MG and small molecular weight substances such as P, UN, creatinine from the bloods of long-term maintenance dialyzed patients was ...evaluated in comparison with those of cellurose and other artificial membrane dialyzers. The results were as follows (1) The removal rate and amount ofβ2-MG by PS were significantly higher than those by control membrane dialyzers, 55.8±9.9% and 207±57.0mg, respectively. In addition the removal rate and amount of P by PS were also significantly higher than those by control membrane dialyzers, 65.2±8.6% and 768±70mg, respectively, although there were no differences among all dialyzers in removing UN and creatinine. There also was no detectable leakage of albumin by PS. (2) In 12 patients with high blood levels ofβ2-MG, the long-term use of PS for 28 weeks reduced blood levels ofβ2-MG from 40.9±3.2mg/l to 27.2±3.1mg/l, thereafter they remained around 30mg/l. The blood levels of small molecular weight substances were unchanged. These results clearly indicate that PS membrane dialyzers might be useful in the removal ofβ2-MG for short periods of time.
In this paper Al-Fe system alloys were mainly investigated from the viewpoints of solid solubility, diffusion coefficient, temperature of liquidus and material cost. The mechanical properties at the ...room and elevated temperature were evaluated in the various Al-Fe system alloys. Al-8%Fe-2%V-2%Mo-1%Zr alloy was found to be superior to the conventional 2618 alloy in the room and elevated temperature-tensile strength, in the thermal stability of hardness, and in the fatigue and creep properties. The excellent properties mentioned above were due to the existense of Al-Fe-V-Mo, Al-Fe and Al-Zr system dispersoids.
In order to evaluate a new alarm system for hemodialysis (HD). Arterial-Venouspressure differencein the blood circuit (A-Vpressuredifference) was monitoredcontinuouslyin 18 cases. Regardlessof age or ...original disease, a significant relationbetween the alteration rate of A-V pressure difference and systolic blood pressure (SBP) was noticedin all cases exceptfor one in which thepatient had taken the hypertensivedrug. When we checked the alteration rate of rise of A-V pressure differencehalf an hour after the start of HD, two patients (Female, over 60 years old, DM) showed a significant alteration rate of rise. In the 21 times of 157 times of HD, SBP fell to below 100mmHg and it was found that SBP decreased when therate of increase of A-V pressure difference reached +20%. A suddendrop of BP duringHD was preventedby keeping the alteration rate of A-Vpressure difference below +20%. Therefore, it seemsto be clinically useful to monitor the alteration rate of A-Vpressure.

A high-strength material has been produced by consolidating rapidly solidified particles of an Al alloy. The claimed Al alloy consists essentially of, in weight percentages: Fe: 4-15%, vanadium: ...0.5-8%, Mo: 0.5-8%, Zr: 0.3-8%, at least one member of the group consisting of: Ni: 0.5-8% and Ti: 0.5-8%, and the balance being essentially Al, the Al alloy being strengthened by a fine dispersion of Fe-containing intermetallic compounds having a size of 5 mu m and less.
