Aim Hepatic sarcoidosis is a rare indication for orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Hence, studies evaluating these patients are scarce. We present a single center experience with OLT for ...hepatic sarcoidosis in a case–control study. Methods A retrospective chart review was performed on 970 patients with OLT at our center, and 13 patients (1.3%) were identified who underwent 14 OLTs for hepatic sarcoidosis. For each case, two controls matched for etiology of liver disease, recipient age (±5 years), and duration since transplant (within 5 years) were selected. Results For the 13 patients transplanted for sarcoidosis, the median age was 46 years. The majority were women (62%) and African-American (85%). Cholestatic liver disease was the primary manifestation. Portal hypertensive complications were present in 11 patients (84%). The median MELD score at transplantation was 19. Extra-hepatic manifestations were present in ten patients (77%). All patients received whole deceased 14 donor allografts. Six patients remain alive with a median post-OLT follow-up of 8.4 years. The 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year patient survival rates were 84.6%, 76.9%, 61.1%, and 51.3%, respectively for the sarcoidosis group and 82.1%, 78.6%, 78.6%, and 61.9%, respectively for the matched PSC/PBC group ( P = 0.739). Re-graft free survival for sarcoidosis patients was 84.6%, 76.9%, 61.5%, and 51.3% for 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-years and for the matched control group re-graft free survival was 78.6% at 1-, 3-, 5-years, and 64.8% at 10-years ( P = 0.661). Recurrence of hepatic sarcoidosis was found in 4 patients at 11 days, 112 days, 222 days, and 6.6 years. Conclusions Our study depicts the long-term benefit of liver transplantation in patients with end stage liver disease secondary to sarcoidosis. It shows statistically comparable graft and patient survival for such patients when compared to other cholestatic diseases. Disease recurrence, although possible, has not been shown to cause allograft dysfunction.

Abstract
Kolek, a Malay Traditional Boat, is slowly forgotten by the younger generation due to several reasons. In this paper, an in-depth study was conducted to construct a Kolek blueprint for ...preservation using the Reverse Engineering method on the existing artifact in Malay Traditional Boat Yard located at Pulau Duyung. The study was conducted through several phases namely boat measurement, digitization, and analyses. As a result, a Kolek Lines Plan was produced using Rhinoceros 5 for reference by future generations. Then analyses were carried out using PolyCAD version 10.4 to obtain hydrostatic properties of the Kolek for its stability, and resistance to determine the power requirements needed for the Kolek. The results show the blueprint of the Kolek that can be develop as well as mechanical properties of the Kolek can be obtained using modern naval architecture techniques. This blueprint can be used to build new boats by the next generation using the hybrid method which is a combination of modern and traditional methods.

Combustion in porous media has been widely studied. Many application involving the combustion of porous media has been reported in various way with most consider on numerical works and industrial ...application. Besides, recent application of porous medium combustion for domestic is the topic of interest among researchers. In this paper, a review was conducted on the combustion of porous media in term of practical application for domestic consumers. Details on the type of fuel used including bio fuel and their system have been search thoroughly. Most of the system have utilized compressed air system to provide lean combustion in domestic application. Some self-aspirating system of porous medium burner was also reported. The application of new technology such as cogeneration by using thermoelectric cells in tandem with porous medium combustion is also revised according to recent work which have already been published. Besides, the recent advances which include coating of porous material is also considered at the end of this paper.
Introduction The increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome in people with severe mental illness (SMI) is well documented. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria for metabolic syndrome ...are three or more of the following: waist circumference ( 80 cm (females), (94 cm (males) OR BMI (30, triglycerides >1.7 mmol/l or on treatment, raised blood pressure (systolic >130 mg Hg or diastolic >85 mm Hg, OR on treatment for hypertension), raised fasting blood glucose (.5.6 mmol/l) OR diagnosed type II diabetes) and reduced HDL cholesterol (< 1.03 mmol/l) OR on treatment. The IMPACT RCT is a Department of Health funded trial of a health promotion intervention (HPI) delivered by care co-ordinators to people with SMI across South London, Kent and Sussex. The intervention is focussed on improving health by addressing modifiable lifestyle factors such as diet, physical activity, obesity, cigarette smoking, alcohol and substance use. Objectives/aims We investigated the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in a sample of 212 patients for whom we had relevant baseline measures. Methods Data (weight, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose levels) were analysed on 212 patients. Results 45% of the sample met IDF criteria for metabolic syndrome. Mean BMI was 30.6, glucose 6.4 mmol/L, triglycerides 2.0 mmol/L, HDL 1.2 (mmol/L), waist circumference 105.8 cm, and BP 122/82 mm Hg. Conclusions Metabolic syndrome was highly prevalent in this sample, significantly increasing the risk of physical morbidity and potentially lowering life expectancy. There is an unmet need for health promotion interventions in order to lower morbidity and mortality risk in these populations.
This study was conducted to: (1) identify new SNPs for residual feed intake (RFI) and performance traits within candidate genes identified in a genome wide association study (GWAS); (2) estimate the ...proportion of variation in RFI explained by the detected SNPs; (3) estimate the effects of detected SNPs on carcass traits to avoid undesirable correlated effects on these economically important traits when selecting for feed efficiency; and (4) map the genes to biological mechanisms and pathways. A total number of 339 SNPs corresponding to 180 genes were tested for association with phenotypes using a single locus regression (SLRM) and genotypic model on 726 and 990 crossbred animals for feed efficiency and carcass traits, respectively.
Strong evidence of associations for RFI were located on chromosomes 8, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, and 28. The strongest association with RFI (P = 0.0017) was found with a newly discovered SNP located on BTA 8 within the ELP3 gene. SNPs rs41820824 and rs41821600 on BTA 16 within the gene HMCN1 were strongly associated with RFI (P = 0.0064 and P = 0.0033, respectively). A SNP located on BTA 18 within the ZNF423 gene provided strong evidence for association with RFI (P = 0.0028). Genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) from 98 significant SNPs were moderately correlated (0.47) to the estimated breeding values (EBVs) from a mixed animal model. The significant (P < 0.05) SNPs (98) explained 26% of the genetic variance for RFI. In silico functional analysis for the genes suggested 35 and 39 biological processes and pathways, respectively for feed efficiency traits.
This study identified several positional and functional candidate genes involved in important biological mechanisms associated with feed efficiency and performance. Significant SNPs should be validated in other populations to establish their potential utilization in genetic improvement programs.

Objective The objective of this study was to investigate whether the functional rs25531 promoter polymorphism in the serotonin transporter gene is associated with premenstrual dysphoric disorder. ...Study Design The study sample comprised 53 women with clinically diagnosed premenstrual dysphoric disorder (age range, 27–46 years; mean, 37.7 years) and 52 healthy control subjects (age range, 22–48 years; mean, 36.2 years). The rs25531 polymorphism was genotyped in both groups. Because of its close proximity to rs25531, the 5-HTTLPR promoter polymorphism was also genotyped. Genotype and allele frequencies for rs25531 and for the composite 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 marker were analyzed by χ2 test. Results There was no significant association between any genotype and clinical category and no significant allele distribution profiles for rs25531 or 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 in either the premenstrual dysphoric disorder or the control groups. Conclusion These findings do not support a major role for rs25531, either in isolation or combined with 5-HTTLPR, in contributing to susceptibility to premenstrual dysphoria.
