Users of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina; for the purpose of various researches; often look for material that contains national; local heritage; history; material about ...politics and culture. In addition to the obligatory copy; NUBBIH replenishes its funds with exchanges and gifts. One such gift is the legacy of historian Prof. Dr. Hamdija Kapidžić. The Library got this gift in 2008. Part of this gift – correspondence; letters; postcards; old books; maps; etc.; are located in the Department of Special Collections. The material has been undocumented for a long time and we decided to present to the public the archives of this famous Bosnian cultural and scientific worker through this brief overview and list. We hope that this brief review of the legacy of the historian Hamdija Kapidžić will bring new views on his life and scientific work and serve as a source for new research.
The Special Collections of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NULBIH) are an irreplaceable source for multiple research projects and scientific papers. For many years, ...NULBIH has been strengthening efforts to present values of Special Collections to the scientific community through its projects. To provide users with faster and easier access to the material, and at the same time to protect the original documents from their further deterioration, the materials covered by the projects are digitized and presented through the Digital Collections portal of the National and University Library of BIH.
In this article, we will present the ongoing project “Protection and presentation of the Poljica Documents Archive from the Collection of Aleksandar Poljanić” and so far, the results and ultimate goals of this project.

We will see that exactly in the domain of writing systems and books, better than in any other medium, the presence of certain influential sphere, as well as the original creative spirit of the people of this country is recognized. In our country, four writing systems were used in the Middle Ages. These were Greek and Latin writing systems, as well as Glagolitic and Cyrillic script. The reason for this curiosity is encounter of different civilizations that have also evolved here. Also, this kind of example of use of different writing systems in a small region is unique.
Through the writing systems and books, we come to occurrence of the first libraries in the Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As well as the books are one of the essential elements for spreading literacy, libraries are one of the most important means to facilitate that expansion and that book can reach their readers.
Libraries and library science in Bosnia and Herzegovina have passed through various phases but they have stayed true to their function throughout the centuries, to the development of culture, to the mass education and to the science. Libraries were and still are the pillar of civilization.
The Consolidation of Material in National and University Library of B&H (NULB&H) Funds on the Cultural and Historical Heritage of Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević is the result of the project realized by ...NULB&H, funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton. The subject of research was the material in Special Collections, Old Periodicals Collection, and more recent publications as monographs and articles also kept in the NULB&H funds. The final result of the research is a bibliography with 394 units.
Upon completion of the project, all the listed documents about Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević were scanned and they are available in digital form in the departments where they are located.
