The patient was a 26-year-old woman who ingested a total of 230 tablets, including 160 lithium carbonate tablets (200 mg), in a suicide attempt, and was brought to our hospital 5 hr later. After ...arriving at the hospital, her only complaint was mild nausea, and no neurological abnormalities or renal dysfunction was observed. We were unable to learn the blood concentration of lithium immediately. A forced diuresis was performed after admission, but the nausea persisted. Continuous hemodialysis (CHD) was performed for 23.5 hr starting 19 hr after ingesting the tablets because the patient had ingested a large amount of lithium carbonate, 32,000 mg. Since the nausea resolved after the CHD was started and no manifestations of lithium intoxication had developed as of 91 hr after ingestion, the patient was discharged. The blood lithium concentrations (mEq/L) revealed at a later date showed that the concentration 5 hr (at the time of the initial examination), 19 hr (start of CHD), 44.5 hr (end of CHD), and 91 hr after ingestion (at the time of discharge) was 4.08, 3.30, 1.09, and 0.38, respectively. Blood purification is said to be effective in treating serious lithium intoxication, but it is difficult to judge when to stop. A favorable outcome of treatment of acute lithium intoxication in a patient with normal renal function appears to have been achieved by performing CHD guided by the clinical manifestations, intravascular redistribution times, etc.
Case 1 : A 54-year-old man visited our hospital with the complaints of fever, nausea, and lumbago. Examinations revealed space-occupying lesions (SOLs) in the liver and a gastric submucosal tumor. ...Case 2 : A 73-year-old man presented to our hospital with the complaints of fever, dizziness, and loss of appetite. A SOL in the liver and a gastric submucosal tumor were detected. Both patients were treated with intravenous antibiotics because of suspected liver abscesses based on the clinical findings, and their symptoms and liver lesions improved. After treatment of the liver abscesses, both patients were successfully treated by laparoscopic wedge resection. Histopathology revealed a schwannoma in Case 1, and a GIST in Case 2. The liver abscesses were assumed to have been caused by the intra-gastric bacteria in the infected necrotic tissue of the submucosal tumor reaching the liver via the portal vein. As there are few reports of liver abscesses caused by gastric submucosal tumors, we report our cases with a review of the relevant literature.
Vasohibin-1 (VASH1) is isolated as an endogenous angiogenesis inhibitor produced by the vascular endothelium. We previously reported that tumor growth and tumor angiogenesis were augmented in VASH1 ...(-/-) mice. Here we examined whether VASH1 plays any role in cancer metastasis. When Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells were inoculated in the footpad to observe spontaneous metastasis, a significant increase in lung metastasis together with inguinal lymph node metastasis was evident in the VASH1 (-/-) mice. Histological analyses revealed that vessels of the footpad tumor in VASH1 (-/-) mice were more immature, having fewer mural cells. However, when LLC cells were injected into a tail vein, the extent of lung metastasis was unchanged between wild-type mice and VASH1 (-/-) mice. When VASH1 in endothelial cells in culture was knocked-down by siRNA, we observed a decrease in the content of ZO-1, a component of tight junctions, which decrease resulted in increased transmigration of cancer cells across the endothelial cell monolayer. These results indicate that endogenous VASH1 tightens the endothelial barrier and makes tumor vessels resistant to cancer metastasis.

Uplink MU-MIMO techniques achieve the high frequency efficiency. However, it is known that the frequency efficiency depends on the arrangement of antennas of the access point. Moreover, we have ...proposed the distributed antenna system (DAS) which selects the high density arranged antennas according to user distribution and shown its effectiveness using narrow band signals in an actual indoor environment. For the actual implementation, this paper proposes an antenna selection methods that selects the antenna in a limited area and selects the antenna in a non-limited area. We compare the basic characteristics of the DAS when applied the uplink MU-MIMO by broadband OFDM signals in an indoor environment for each selection method, and demonstrate the effectiveness of DAS with the proposed antenna selection methods.
This study forcuses on awareness of residents and motivation for participation in the greening community development in Ushikubonishi area in Yokohama city. We clarify how residents high motivation ...to participation in the greening community development. We verify the greening community development has effect of a community.
