This paper identifies data transport needs for current and future science payloads deployed on the NASA Global Hawk Unmanned Aeronautical Vehicle (UAV). The NASA Global Hawk communication system and ...operational constrains are presented. The Genesis and Rapid Intensification Processes (GRIP) mission is used to provide the baseline communication requirements as a variety of payloads were utilized in this mission. User needs and desires are addressed. Protocols are matched to the payload needs and an evaluation of various techniques and tradeoffs are presented. Such techniques include utilization rate-base selective negative acknowledgement protocols and possible use of protocol enhancing proxies. Tradeoffs of communication architectures that address ease-of-use and security considerations are also presented.

In particular, mobile-IP will play a major role in the Advanced Aeronautic ...Transportation Technology (AATT), the Weather Information Communication (WINCOMM) and the Small Aircraft Transportation System; (SATS) aeronautics programs. This paper describes mobile-IP and mobile-routers-in particular, the features, capabilities, and initial performance of the mobile-router is presented. The application of mobile-router technology to NASA's space and aeronautics programs is also discussed.

Cisco System and NASA have been performing joint research on mobile routing technology under a NASA Space Act Agreement. Cisco developed mobile router technology and provided that technology to NASA ...for applications to aeronautic and space-based missions. NASA has performed stringent performance testing of the mobile router, including of the interaction of routing and transport level protocols. This paper describes mobile routing, the mobile router, and some key configuration parameters. In addition, the paper describes the mobile routing test network and test results documenting the performance of transport protocols in dynamic routing environments.
Farming has gone high-tech, with optical monitoring taking place from the air and from satellites, on planting and harvesting equipment, and on ground-based sensors. The food and beverage industry ...uses optical sensing to ensure that raw materials, additives and final products are of consistently high quality. Transporters and receivers of goods also use optical sensing because it is noninvasive, and shipments can be inspected for freshness or purity without being opened. Apple growers, for example, examine levels of ethylene, fructose, galactose and sucrose because they can be correlated with apple ripeness. Measurements of these sugars can be performed on the trees or after picking by closely aiming a handheld grating-based spectrometer at the surface of the fruit. A heated near-IR source produces a signal penetrating to a depth of a few millimeters. The detected signal is a combination of reflectance and transmission components of the penetrated signal (transflection).
ATM is currently considered the primary WAN technology with Internet protocols providing the routing and transport requirements. Another WAN technology being considered is packet over SONET. Using ...the Advanced Communication Technology Satellite, NASA has demonstrated and is experimenting with these technologies. This article summarizes some of the major completed and ongoing experiments and demonstrations performed using commercial standard protocols such as ATM and TCP/IP over broadband satellite networks.
Cilj: Ustvrditi postotak pojavnosti poslijeoperacijske restenoze nakon operacijskog liječenja visokopostotne stenoze arterije karotis na godišnjoj razini te podatke usporediti s novijom svjetskom ...literaturom. Ispitanici i postupci: Podatci su dobiveni analizom ranih poslijeoperacij- skih kontrolnih nalaza dobivenih obojenim dupleks doplerom, izvršenih dva tjedna nakon zahvata trombendaterektomije karotidnog žilja, u laboratoriju za cerebrovaskularne bolesti, Klinike za neurologiju, KBC-a Rijeka, na 104 pacijenta operirana na Zavodu za torakovaskularnu kirurgiju, Kirurške klinike KBC-a Rijeka 2012. godine. Rezultati: U skupini od 104 operirana pacijenta poradi visokopostotne stenoze unutarnje karotidne arterije u ranom poslijeoperacijskom tijeku evidentirano je 11 pacijenata (10,5 %) s pojavom restenoze, no bez neuroloških simptoma. Dodatnim praćenjem naših pacijenata nakon tri i šest mjeseci primijetili smo da se stupanj restenotskog procesa nije povećavao u 8 pacijenata, no u trojice pacijenata (2,9 %) evidentirano je znatno povećanje stupnja restenoze, te su oni podvrgnuti endovaskularnoj tzv. stenting pro- ceduri. Zaključci: Trombendarterektomija karotidnog žilja je operacijski zahvat koji se u KBC-u Rijeka izvodi rutinski. Incidencija pojavnosti poslijeoperacijske restenoze je mala, no nije neuobičajena pojava, ali uz adekvatnu medikamentnu potporu gotovo nikad nije fatalna za pacijenta, te je reparabilna ako je to potrebno. Mnogi svjetski autori također izvještavaju u izvjesnom postotku o pojavnosti poslijeoperacijske restenoze unutarnje arterije karotis. Redovitim ultrazvučnim kontrolama pravovremeno se otkrivaju poslijeoperacijski restenotski procesi koji mogu biti od hemodinamskog značaja u neuroloških pacijenata. U postizanju dobrih kliničkih rezultata kod prevencije i liječenja neuroloških incidenata izuzetno je važna dobra i uska suradnja svih supspecijalističkih timova koji se bave problematikom cerebrovaskularnog inzulta.

Epileptic seizures in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) have been a subject of investigation of numerous studies, however, their etiology has not yet been elucidated. They are usually well controlled ...with an- tiseizure medications (ASMs), but in some pharmacoresistant patients, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) might present a complementary treatment modality. We present a 24-year-old male patient with NF1 who had temporal lobe seizures - focal autonomic seizures with impaired awareness and oroalimentary automatisms, as well as focal motor seizures with retained awareness, in addition to moderate intel- lectual disability. The most significant magnetic resonance (MRI) abnormalities included infiltrative changes of medulla oblongata, pons and cerebellum, as well as signal intensity changes with mild com- pression in the apex of the temporal lobes, insular cortex, putamen and medial part of the frontal lobe, all more prominent on the right, along with right mesial temporal sclerosis. Interictal electroencepha- logram (EEG) showed two independent epileptic foci – one in the right frontocentrotemporal region and the other in the left centrotemporal region. Throughout the years, he had been treated with several ASMs in monotherapy or polytherapy without success in seizure control. After an extensive preoperative evaluation, VNS implantation was performed and the patient has been seizure free for almost two years. Al- though a palliative intervention, VNS could be a powerful tool in the treatment of these patients and even lead to seizure freedom. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report where seizure freedom was achieved in a patient with NF1 following VNS implantation.
