Introduction: Febrile seizures (FS) are the most common neurological disease in childhood. The etiology of FS is the subject of numerous studies including studies regarding genetic predisposition. ...Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze the association of TRPV1 rs222747 and KCC2 rs2297201 gene polymorphisms with the occurrence of FS. Materials and Methods: The study included 112 patients diagnosed with FS classified as simple febrile seizures (SFS) or complex febrile seizures (CFS). We analyzed selected polymorphisms of KCC2 and TRPV1 genes using the Real-time PCR method. Results: The CT and TT genotypes of the rs2297201 polymorphism of the KCC2 gene are significantly more common in the group of children with FS than the control group (p = .002) as well as the allele T of this polymorphism (p = .045). Additionally, genotypes CT and TT of the rs2297201 polymorphism of the KCC2 gene were more frequent in the group of children with CFS compared to the control group (p < .001). Different genotypes and alleles of the rs222747 TRPV1 gene polymorphism were not associated with the occurrence of febrile seizures or epilepsy, nor were associated with the occurrence of a particular type of febrile seizure (p = .252). Conclusion: These results indicate that the CT and TT genotypes, as well as the T allele of rs2297201 polymorphism of the KCC2 gene, could be a predisposing factor for the FS, as well as the occurrence of CFS.
Introducton. Frequency of malignant gestational trophoblastic neoplasms (GTN) is estimated at 1.03 cases in 1,000 deliveries with 5 fold greater risk in patients younger than 20 and older than 40 ...years. Serum value of human chorionic gonadotropin is the most relevant parameter in diagnosis of GTN. In placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT), serum levels of chorionic gonadotropin do not have the same significance as they do in other malignant GTN. Definite diagnosis of PSTT is almost always confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Case report. In the course of just a few months (August 2016 to January 2017) in the Clinic for Obstetrics and Gynecology ?Narodni front? in Belgrade, two GTN patients were admitted and treated, with almost equal ultrasonography (pictures), operative findings and postoperative outcome. Due to histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations two different types of malignant GTN were confirmed. The first patient (admitted in August 2016), 26 years old, was admitted for uterine bleeding 11 months after vaginal delivery and histopathological examination confirmed PSTT. The second patient (admitted in January 2017), 27 years old, was admitted 4 months after vaginal delivery because of uterine bleeding. Histopathological examination confirmed choriocarcinoma. Conclusion. Considering the fact that malignant GTN can appear in different types, with different ultrasonography pictures, this report is significant because two distinctly different malignant GTN entities could appear with equal clinical manifestations and equal ultrasound pictures even when they may have very different course of the disease treatment and outcome. Such cases need correct diagnosis which may be reached only after immunohistochemical analysis. The ultrasound patterns, both in gray scale, color flow, and Doppler values, were almost equal in both cases and guided the diagnostic procedures to the final treatment, even regardless of their very different histopathology.

The effect of coriander essential oil (CEO) at concentrations of 0.075‐0.150 μL/g on pH, color, lipid oxidation (TBARS), residual nitrite concentration and microbial growth of cooked pork sausages ...produced with different levels of sodium nitrite (0, 50 and 100 mg/kg) was investigated. Artificial neural networks modeling and the multi-response optimization were used to determine the optimal combinations of process parameters and storage time. Reduced concentration of sodium nitrite (60 mg/kg) in combination with 0.12 μL/g of CEO resulted in satisfying redness (a* approx. 11.1) and improved oxidative (TBARS approx. 0.12 mg MDA/kg) and microbial stability (total plate count – TPC approx. 2.50 Log CFU/g) of cooked pork sausages during refrigerated storage. Therefore, the results of this paper revealed significant antioxidative and antimicrobial activity of CEO, and consequently its high potential of utilization in processing of cooked pork sausages with enhanced quality and shelf-life.
•Coriander essential oil (CEO) was added in sausages with different nitrite levels.•CEO combined with 60 mg/kg of nitrites provided higher redness of sausages.•CEO at 0.12 μL/g combined with 60 mg/kg of nitrites retarded the TBARS and TPC.
The aim of this study was to investigate textural characteristics of three traditional dry fermented sausages (Sremski kulen, Lemeski kulen and Petrovsk? klob?sa) manufactured in different ...small-scale facilities in northern Serbia, and to correlate them with physicochemical and sensory characteristics. The sample sausages were supplied by different local traditional producers. The textural characteristics were correlated with physicochemical and sensory characteristics using multiple linear regression analysis and principal component analysis. Differences in physicochemical characteristics reflected even more notable differences in texture characteristics. Regarding regression equations, obtained results showed that moisture content was significant for hardness, springiness and cohesiveness. Hardness was also influenced by fat content, while chewiness was influenced by protein content. Principal component analysis separated samples of Petrovsk? klob?sa, as the group with the most reproducible analysed characteristics. Obtained results of statistical analyses should provide knowledge for possible improvements of the traditional production, in a way that these sausages could be produced in different facilities with consistent textural characteristics.
Research of the most common causes of irregularities of jaws and teeth is designed in order to find the most efficient mode of their prevention. Frequency of orthodontic malformations (malocclusions) ...is as high as 60% to 80% in this region with an increasing tendency. Researching the risk factors for orofacial irregularities is designed with the purpose of creating a standardized methodology for risk evaluation, frequency and degree of orthodontic irregularities of face, jaws and teeth. The aim of the study was to identify and analyze the causal factors that lead to forming malocclusions in patients from the Province of Vojvodina and create a uniform methodology for epidemiological research.
The research included 127 patients from the current casuistics of the Vojvodina Stomatology Clinic--Department for Jaw Orthopedics. Data for Questionnaire for Epidemiological Surveillance were obtained from medical records of patients, heteroanamnesis, objective findings, functional analysis of stomatognathic system, and additional diagnostic methods.
The average number of the risk factors was 2.59 per patient, of which 56% were morphological factors, and 44% functional. Acquired risk factors made up 61% of the total number, while congenital risk factors made up 39%, of which 15% were hereditary and 24% were nonhereditary.
Implementing the Questionnaire for Epidemiological Surveillance, general distribution of anomalies could be presented by the Anomaly index (AI), which dictates the introduction of a standardized questionnaire for epidemiological screening, which would preclude ambiguousness and the differences between the epidemiological research data would be cut to the minimum.

Polymorphic deletions in glutathione S-transferase (GST) genes are recognized as a risk factor for lymphoma, other hematological and non-hematological malignancies. The purpose of the present study ...was to investigate whether deletions of GSTT1 and GSTM1 as well as GSTP1 Ile- 105Val single nucleotide polymorphism influence clinical presentation, response to therapy and outcome in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
The study included a total of 82 DLBCL patients treated with rituximab-CHOP (R-CHOP) therapy (6-8 cycles). GST genes were analyzed with PCR-based methodology.
The obtained frequencies of GSTT1 and GSTM1 null genotypes were 24 and 63%, respectively. The variant GSTP1 Val allele was present in 76% of the patients. No association between GST genotypes and clinical presentation was found. However, a higher frequency of GSTM1 null genotype was observed in patients who developed DLBCL before the age of 60 odds ratio (OR) 3.12, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.11-9.17; p=0.03. Patients carrying at least one GSTP1 Val allele achieved remission in a shorter time period than patients with GSTP1 Ile/Ile genotype (p=0.05). GST genotypes didn't influence the incidence of relapse and survival. There were no toxic effects, life-threatening infections or significant delay in immunochemotherapy in the analyzed group of patients.
The present study showed the association of GSTM1 null genotype and DLBCL development before the age of 60 (prognostic cutoff). GST genotypes didn't influence survival, but patients with at least one low-producing GSTP1 Val allele achieved clinical remission in a shorter time period.

Areas protected by law make about 518.000 hectares that is 5, 86% of total teritory of Republic of Serbia. These areas, which are largely located in hilly-mountain part of the country, have good ...natural conditions for starting of organic honey production. In organic beekeeping location of the apiary must be at the place where there is no polluters of any kind (including agricultural pollution), in surrounding of at least 3 km. These requirements are entirely fulfiled in protected areas, which are protected from any kind of polluters, and where local farmers are dealing with traditional production. Producers of honey and other bee products in Serbia are mostly conventional producers. Considering the increasing demand for organic products at european and the world market it is necessary to educate beekeepers in Serbia about the methods of organic beekeeping and conditions which must be fullfilled to export these products at foreign markets. Goal of this research is to identify areas important for potential organic beekeeping, to present key differences between conventional and organic beekeeping and to present current state regarding production of bee products in Republic of Serbia. The effect of adding Staphylococcus xylosus on the oxidative stability and sensory properties of the traditional sausage (Petrovská klobása) subjected to industrial conditions of ripening was studied ...at day 0 and after 1 and 2 months of storage. During storage, TBARs values in sausages with added Staphylococcus xylosus ranged from 0.13 to 0.52mg malondialdehyde/kg significantly lower (p < 0.05) than those of control sausages. After 2 months storage, sensory properties of sausage with added Staphylococcus xylosus (4.52) was better compared to control sausage. Adding Staphylococcus xylosus can contribute to better oxidative and sensory stability of Petrovská klobása during storage.
