Malayaite (CaSnSiO5) doped with Cr may be used as a cheap gold‐free purple red pigment to substitute the purple of Cassius. Different molar ratios of Ca/Sn malayaite doped with Cr were prepared and ...various characrizations were employed. The results indicate that the pigment is composed of CaSnSiO5 and SnO2 when the molar ratio of Ca/Sn is 0.8, and the color is close to agate red color. When the molar ratio of Ca/Sn is 1.25, the phases CaSnSiO5, SnO2, and Ca3SnSi2O9 exist simultaneously, while the color is yellow or yellowish colors. Excessive Ca(II) increases the normal calcination temperature of pigment, from 1080°C to 1130°C. The distribution of chromium ions on the sample surface varies greatly with the change in Ca/Sn molar ratio. The theoretical formulation was obtained based on the stoichiometric formula of CaCrxSn1–xSiO5 by using response surface methodology (RSM). According to the RSM model, the relationship between the molar ratio of Cr/Sn/Ca and the color property was established. The desired pigment formulation (rendering agate red) color is that the molar ratio of Cr/Sn/Ca is 0.010:1.003:0.800. The accuracy of the models was confirmed with analysis of variance, the simulation results were verified again by experiments.
Carbon/carbon (C/C) composite materials are widely used in high-temperature fields because of their outstanding thermal-physical properties. But many difficulties have been experienced in the joining ...of C/C composites because of their brittleness and the harsh application environments.
Use of high-temperature adhesives has been shown to be one of the most convenient and promising methods for the joining of materials employed at high temperatures. In this work, C/C composites were bonded by an organic resin adhesive using phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin as matrix and boron
carbide as modification additive. The shear bond strength of C/C composite joints, after being treated at 1200°C, were tested at room temperature, 1000°C, 1400°C and 1800°C. Results show that the above organic resin adhesive possesses satisfactory bond properties. The bond
strength of C/C composite joints tested at room temperature was as high as 13.2 MPa. Because of the modification effect of boron carbide, the thermal stability and integrity of the residue derived from the carbonization of PF resin are improved considerably, which is responsible for the achievement
of satisfactory bond strength. As to the C/C composite joints tested at high temperatures, the bond strength is obviously lower than that of C/C composite joints achieved at room temperature due to the melting of boron oxides which were the products of boron carbide's modification reactions.
The propagation of failure is much easier in boron oxides glass phase and is an important factor resulting in the decrease of bond strength at high temperatures. With the increase of test temperature, the amount of the boron oxides produced decreased because of the carbon thermal reduction
reaction and its volatilization. As a result, the bond strength of C/C joints increased from 2.3 to 5.2 MPa with the increase of test temperature from 1000 to 1800°C.

The phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin was modified by boron carbide (B
4C). In order to investigate the modification effect of B
4C, the residue values of pure PF resin and B
4C modified PF resin were ...measured using thermal gravity. It was shown that the residue values of B
4C modified PF resin are 71.9% and 68.4% after being pyrolyzed at 700 and 1000
°C, respectively, which are obviously higher than those of the pure PF resin (62.9% and 60.5% at 700 and 1000
°C, respectively). The microstructure evolution of the modified resin at high temperatures was also investigated by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive analysis of X-rays. By means of the microstructure characterization, the modification reactions between the B
4C additives and the oxygen-containing volatiles, such as CO and H
2O, are demonstrated. The carbon and oxygen elements remained in the resin matrix in the forms of amorphous carbon and B
2O
3, respectively, resulting in the improvement of residue values and stability of the PF resin at high temperatures. The distribution of modification particles became well-proportioned gradually at the elevated temperatures, and the shape of ceramic additives changed into white spherules due to the surface tension.
Anti-corrosion of aluminum alloys with different roughness were researched in this study. To further verify the relationship between anti-corrosion and surface roughness, surface with micro structure ...alloy was successfully fabricated via anode oxidation on aluminum. The water contact
angle of aluminum alloy surface after coating polypropylene film was 154° and sliding angle was 3°. The micro-nano structure was constructed by adding nano-SiO2. The contacts angle of surface was 165° and the sliding angle was 1.8°. The superhydrophobic samples were
used to test corrosion resistance. Compared with aluminum coated with unmodified film, the corrosion potential for modified superhydrophobic aluminum alloy increased by about 0.05 V. When nano-SiO2 particles were added, the corrosion resistance for the sample was also improved.
Abstract Inflammatory response and lipid metabolism influence the development of ischemic stroke (IS). TLRs have an important function in inflammation and lipid metabolism. To investigate association ...of TLR8 rs3764880 polymorphism with susceptibility of IS and the relationship between rs3764880 with inflammation response- and lipid metabolism-related quantitative traits, we conducted a case–control study in a Han Chinese population comprising 816 cases and 816 controls being matched for age and gender. The distribution of allele of TLR8 rs3764880 had statistical significance in male group ( P = 0.017). And the G allele carrier had a higher level of IL-8 ( P = 0.001, PBc = 0.004) than the A allele carrier in male cases. Moreover, the rs3764880 genotype was significantly associated with TC ( P = 0.001, P Bc = 0.004) and LDL level ( P = 0.0002, P Bc = 0.0008) in the allele model, and the GG carrier had a higher LDL level ( P = 0.009, P Bc = 0.036) than the AA carrier in male patients. However, no statistially significant association was found between rs3764880 and any IS-related quantitative traits in female patients. Our study also revealed that IL-1b was associated with HDL ( P = 0.006, P Bc = 0.012) in IS patients. Conclusion: TLR8 gene rs3764880 polymorphism might be associated with susceptibility and involved in the inflammatory reaction and lipid metabolism of IS in southern Chinese Han.
Cobalt blue ceramic pigments mainly consisting of CoAlsub.2 Osub.4 are subject to the difficulty of color control. Here, a perspective is reported regarding research on the reasons for color change ...based on the control of the heat treatment and ratio of components. Macroscopically, the composition of pigment powders determines the color. Microscopically, the crystallite characters including size, cation distribution, and structure have an important effect on the color. The ingredient, structural, and color properties of the pigment powders are analyzed using thermo gravimetry–differential scanning calorimetry (TG–DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement, Rietveld refinement, energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and colorimetry analysis. The color is proven to be associated with cation distribution, such as that of Cosup.2+ and Cosup.3+ . It is indicated that high heating temperature, long heating time, and a large proportion of Alsup.3+ can, respectively, induce the Cosup.2+ and Alsup.3+ in tetrahedral and octahedral sites.
The film of PEDOT was prepared in this study via electrochemical polymerization using EDOT as monomer in LiClO4/PC solution. The effects on the properties of the film were surveyed including the ...deposition voltage and deposition time. The morphology of the film was observed
by scanning electron microscopy. The electrochromic kinetics was analyzed by combination of electrochemical workstation and UV-Visible spectrophotometer such as the transmittance, transmittance contrast, coloring efficiency and the response time. The results indicated the film presents a coral
shape despites of the deposition voltage and the deposition time. In case of the application as electrochromic film, the optimal process condition is 1.3 V and 24 s. The corresponding transmittance is 82.77% in fade state. The transmittance contrast is 17.87%, and the coloring efficiency is
about 117.92 cm2/C, the response time is 0.52 s.
Stroke is a multi-factorial disorder and has become the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified a significant association of ...single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2107595 in HDAC9 gene with large-vessel ischaemic stroke (IS) in the European populations. The aim of this study is to examine the association of HDAC9 gene rs2107595 polymorphism with the susceptibility of IS in southern Han Chinese.
A case-control study was conducted in Chinese Han population, with a total of 1632 subjects including 816 stroke patients and 816 controls. Sequenom MassARRAY iPLEX was used to genotype the SNP rs2107595 in HDAC9 gene. Genetic association analysis between genotypes and risk of IS was evaluated by PLINK program.
No significant association was found between the SNP rs2107595 and IS in the additive, dominant, recessive and allelic models (all p>0.050). For IS-related quantitative traits in the sex-stratified analysis, the results showed a significant association between rs2107595 and serum TG level of males in the additive model (padj=0.008) and the dominant model (padj=0.003), and a significant association of rs2107595 polymorphism with serum TC level of females in the additive model (padj=0.045) and the dominant model (padj=0.037).
Our results indicate that HDAC9 variant rs2107595 may be not associated with IS risk in southern Han Chinese. However, the rs2107595 polymorphism may be associated with serum TC and TG level of IS patients.
•We first investigate the association of SNP rs2107595 with IS in Han Chinese.•HDAC9 variant rs2107595 may not be associated with IS risk in southern Han Chinese.•The SNP rs2107595 may be associated with serum TC and TG level of IS patients.
Many studies reported that toll-like receptors (TLRs) played an important role in the process of ischemic stroke (IS). However, the impact of
TLR5
rs5744174 on stroke risk, gene expression and on ...inflammatory cytokines, and lipid levels in ischemic stroke patients has not yet been reported and was therefore the subject of this study. In this case–control study, a total of 816 ischemic stroke patients and 816 healthy controls were genotyped using Sequenom MassArray technology. The mRNA expression of
TLR5
was detected through quantitative real-time PCR among 52 ischemic stroke patients. The levels of IL-1b, IL-6, IL-8, and TNFα were measured by ELISA among 62 IS patients. Total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were determined among 816 IS patients using a Hitachi 7600 Automatic Biochemistry Analyzer. Our result showed
TLR5
rs5744174 polymorphism was not associated with stroke risk,
TLR5
mRNA expression and inflammatory cytokines of IS patients (
P
> 0.050), but was significantly associated with HDL-C (recessive model:
β
= − 0.14, 95 % CI: −0.24 to −0.03,
P
= 0.009).
TLR5
rs5744174 polymorphism may have no impact on the stroke risk, gene expression and inflammatory cytokines, but may influence the HDL-C serum level of IS patients in Chinese Han population.

Commonsense knowledge acquisition is one of the fundamental issues in the implementation of human-level AI. However, commonsense is difficult to obtain, because it is a human consensus and rarely ...explicitly appears in texts or other data. In this paper, we focus on the automatic acquisition of a typical kind of implicit verb-oriented commonsense knowledge (e.g., "person eats food"), which is the concept level knowledge of verb phrases. For this purpose, we propose a knowledge-driven approach to mine verb-oriented commonsense knowledge from verb phrases with the help of taxonomy. First, we design an entropy-based filter to cope with noisy input verb phrases. Then, we propose a joint model based on minimum description length and a neural language model to generate verb-oriented common-sense knowledge. We conduct extensive experiments to show that our solution is more effective to mine verb-oriented commonsense knowledge than competitors, and finally, we harvest 18K verb-oriented commonsense knowledge.
