Cicer arietinum
L. (chickpea) is one of the most significant legume crops domesticated in the Fertile Crescent. This study was aimed to characterize a diverse composite set of 384
Cicer
genotypes ...using unlinked simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. The genotypes grown under the temperate conditions of Western-Himalayas included cultivated and wild relatives from primary (
Cicer reticulatum
Ladiz.), secondary (
Cicer echinospermum
P.H. Davis) and tertiary (
Cicer microphyllum
Benth.) gene pools. The analysis of genotypic data of eight SSR markers from eight linkage groups led to the identification of 63 alleles, ranging from 2 to 6 with an average value of 3.7 alleles per locus. The polymorphic information content of SSR markers ranged from 0.46 to 0.79 with an average value of 0.77 and the gene diversity ranged from 0.47 to 0.79 with an average of 0.64. The clustering of genotypes in the form of dendrogram discriminated all 384 genotypes into four major clusters. The wild genotypes belonging to different gene pools got clustered uniformly in different clusters along with cultivated chickpea genotypes. The analysis of data also led to the selection of core set of 192 genotypes. The core set was found to possess same diversity (63 alleles; average alleles per locus: 3.7; gene diversity: 0.65) as that of composite set of 384 genotypes. The development of core set in chickpea shall prove useful in gene discovery for variety of traits through genome-wide association studies. The results also provide an insight into gene/allele diversity available in our chickpea germplasm collection grown under agro-climatic conditions of the North Western-Himalayas.
This paper examines the access to electronic resources, services and barriers among the research scholars who are currently pursuing Ph.D programme in engineering, pure sciences, and social sciences ...in the educational institutions of Tamil Nadu, India. The major objectives of the study are to find the access to e-resources, e-services and also the barriers faced by the research scholars. A well structured questionnaire was used to collect the data from the respondents. It is found that majority of research scholars (82.3%) are accessed to “Google Scholars”, and OPAC/WebOPAC service is highly used among other services. It is further analyzed that “Lack of permanent access” and “discontinuation of subscriptions” are formed as major barriers in accessing of e-resources and e-services. The study recommends creating awareness, highlighting the benefits of the resources & services, development/improvement of ICT facilities in the libraries to provide the information requirements of the user community.
The Himalayas being fragile landscapes, are highly susceptible to changing climatic conditions. Reduction in glacier volumes, snow cover areas, water availability, and biodiversity, along with ...changes in the patterns and intensity of rainfall is evident in the Himalayas. All these changes ultimately impact the Himayalan rural sector—both ecologically and economically. At the outset, locals of the region need to be educated about climate change, its impacts, and mitigation measures. Furthermore, forging collaboration of the Himalayan regions with the scientific community and policy-making bodies should be one of the main strategies for identifying and addressing climate change concerns in the region.

The present study aims to study the status of open access e-book repositories in the OpenDOAR. In order to fulfill the set objectives, relevant data were extracted from the OpenDOAR and was organized ...in tabular forms based on certain parameters viz: Geographical distribution, Software usage, Language diversity, Subject coverage, Operational status, Repository type and Growth of Repositories. The findings reveal that repositories containing books were 1329 in number, out of which Europe was seen to be the most dominating continent contributing 55.2% of the repositories. The USA topped the list of countries by contributing 10.2% of the repositories. Most of the repositories preferred DSpace software (42.1%). 85.6% of the repositories belonged to Institutions. Almost 96% of the repositories were seen to be functional. Since the scope of the study was restricted to OpenDOAR only, hence cautions should be taken while generalizing the results.

The idea of Open Access (OA) has gained momentum over the years throughout the world cutting across regions, countries and disciplines. This paper aims to study the publishing trends of the open ...access journals in the subject area of legal studies registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). The collected data were tabulated and analyzed in accordance with the desired objectives, using simple percentile techniques. The study looks at the highest number of contributions country wise, language wise and other different factors associated with journals found in DOAJ.
