Abstract
In socialist Yugoslavia in 1989 the extremely sensitive matter of Kosovo had an ambiguous effect on the League of Communists of Croatia, which was then still caught in the so-called ...“Croatian silence”. It did however provoke much turbulence in the Croatian media, which made pointed comments on the larger Yugoslav crisis, on the situation in Kosovo, and on the politics of Serbian president Slobodan Milošević. An intense dynamic could be also found in the field of knowledge production which encompassed scholars, historians, and intellectuals. Who produced knowledge about Kosovo? What were their political and intellectual agendas? How did they intervene in the dominant discourses and media coverage, what debates and reactions did they spark? Within the frames of the history of knowledge, the history of books and intellectual history, the author here assesses the works on Kosovo of a number of Croatian and Yugoslav intellectuals, chiefly Darko Hudelist and Branko Horvat.
The article presents key elements of public history. Firstly, it indicates the changes in contemporary historiography that enabled the emergence of public history, as well as its affirmation as a new ...historical sub-discipline and consequently its inclusion in university programmes. Secondly, it describes institutional development of public history from the 1970s onwards, and contemplates the still open question of its definition. In addition, the article presents the main highlights of applied history. Although applied history is often mentioned as an integral part of public history, it is worth talking about it separately, in order to highlight the practical dimension of history. This refers to history in practice and the possibilities of historians' work outside the academia and education. The article also presents controversies and criticisms provoked by public history and applied history and offers answers to them. The author argues that public and applied history can be a framework that enables historians to reconcile the professional needs and the audience's interests. He points out that it is important to take into account the relationship between academic historiography and the public. Lastly, the author discusses future perspectives of public and applied history, with an emphasis on local academic historiography. Considering the students' interest as well as that of a significant part of local historians, the author encourages discussion about a possible graduate studies in public history. Besides being an important challenge for academic historiography, the author concludes that public and applied history can also offer a great deal of practical skills to professional historians.
This paper sets forth from the hypothesis that the rise of comparative, transnational, global histories and entangled history is due to theoretical works, but also historical works in which the ...historians practiced the aforementioned approaches. The paper thus focuses on two books by C. A. Bayly, The Birth of the Modern World, 1780-1914: Global Connections and Comparisons and Remaking the Modern World 1900-2015: Global Connections and Comparisons. In his syntheses of global history, Bayly focused on connections, comparisons and entanglements. In this sense, Bayly’s books may be particularly beneficial to Croatian historiography. Besides engendering familiarity with recent syntheses of global history in the 19th and 20th centuries, the examples of Bayly’s works facilitate insight into the application of comparative, transnational and global history and entangled history in practice.
The historiography of both the French and Russian revolutions has evolved from classical political history to social and (new) cultural history as well as gender history. Furthermore, the tendency ...toward global history is becoming more noticeable, especially in the study of the French revolution, but it is gradually encompassing the Russian revolution as well. Moreover, both the French and Russian revolutions have been analysed comparatively, but also with emphasis on interconnections with other revolutions. Certainly, referring to these great revolutions of modern history is unavoidable in the historical and comparative study of revolutions put into practice by various social sciences and humanities. All in all, it is definitely worthwhile to continue following new developments in the international historiography of the French and Russian revolutions, as well as revolutions in general.
Authors of the work presents main principles of a new method of design the ultimate pit which is primarily applicable for bedded formations, but also can be acceptable for other types of deposits. On ...the basis of main criteria of optimum design (profitability and slope stability), the authors have tested theirs procedure and proposed a new method for optimum design of open pit mines, for which the most suitable name would be the Floating Slopes Method.
The theme of the paper are the ways in which the dictatorship of King Alexander influenced the politics of history, the educational system, historians, publishers of historical literature, and ...publishers in general in the late 1920s and early 1930s in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In order to put this first dictatorship in the Yugoslav area in a diachronic perspective, I will analyze the presence of certain types of continuities and discontinuities. I will also show the trajectories of historians and publishers during King Alexanderʼs dictatorship and other dictatorships which followed in the 20th century’s Age of Extremes. Moreover, all these dictatorships inevitably referred to each other. I will also explore the contemporary attitude toward the first dictatorship in the Yugoslav area, the attitude which was shaped by the stance toward Serbo-Croatian conflicts and Yugoslavism as a whole. All this contributed to the constant presence of this dictatorship in the ongoing symbolic struggles over the interpretation of national history.
Paper presents results of blast hole stem materials, that were conducted to assert best stem materials for surface blasting in quarry of technical / construction stone. Blasting has been performed ...with equal explosives and test-minefield parameters (length of the stem, volume of the explosive charge, mine-drill depth, and angle) on various sites / quarry. Results are guidelines in materials to be chosen in surface blasting of quarry works, adding to quality of mining works and reduction of costs. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT

This book gives an insight into the media constructions of historical remembrance reflecting transnational, national or nationalistic forms of politics. Authors from post-Yugoslavia and neighbouring ...countries focus on the diverse transnational (such as Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav etc.) and national (such as Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian etc.) memory cultures in South-Eastern Europe, their interference and rivalry. They examine constructions of memory in different media from the 19th century to recent wars. These include longue durée images, breaks and gaps, selection and suppression, traumatic events and the loss of memory, nostalgia, false memory, reactivation, rituals and traces of memory.
Bentonit je materijal kojim se planira brtviti i zapunjavati podzemna odlagališta nuklearnog otpada u dubokim magmatskim strukturama. U Hrvatskoj postoji više lokacija ležišta ili pojava bentonita. ...Neka od njih su eksploatirana u prošlosti, dok su druga manje ili više istraživana. U radu je prikazan pregled ležišta bentonita, važnija svojstva i rezerve, te način eksploatacije u Hrvatskoj. Najveća ležišta nalaze se u područjima Poljanske luke, Gornje Jelenske i Bednje. Primjenjivale su se površinske i podzemne (stupno uz zapunjavanje, podetažno otkopavanje) metode eksploatacije. U području Svilaje i Like nađena su potencijalno vrijedna ležišta, koja nisu iskorištavana. Udio montmorilonita se kreće od 20-50% do 57-89%. Većina ležišta čine slojevi bentonita debljine 0,4-1,6 m, i pada 10°-30°. Iznimno su horizontalna i debljine veće od 5 m, pa čak i 12 m. Jedno ležište pada pod 70° i debljine je do 40 m. Dokazane rezeve čini otprilike 2,3 Mt bentonita, uz određenu razinu nesigurnosti. Prosječna proizvodnja po rudniku za vrijeme eksploatacije pretpostavlja se oko nekoliko tisuća tona godišnje.
