This study aimed to compare three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D CRT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) combined with concurrent chemotherapy for cervical cancer.
A total of 72 ...patients with Grades IIa-IIIb cervical cancer were randomly divided into two groups, namely, the IMRT group for IMRT plan (primary lesion, 45 Gy/22; the pelvic wall lymphatic drainage area, 50 Gy/22), and the 3D CRT group (conformal pelvic radiotherapy, 45 Gy/22; subsequent supplement of pelvic wall, 6.0 Gy/3). Both groups received concurrent chemotherapy of nedaplatin 30 mg/m2 weekly for six cycles, with an after-loading therapy of 6 Gy/6 each time.
In the IMRT group, the grade III diarrhea rate was 5.6% and the rate in the 3D CRT group was 30.6%; both groups significantly differed. No significant difference was observed between the overall survival and disease-free survival in first, second, and third years in both groups.
Cervical cancer IMRT can significantly reduce the incidence of acute enteritis. For standard 3D CRT, no significant difference was observed in overall survival and disease-free survival.
In this paper, the liquid–vapour–solid system near triple-phase contact line in a microchannel heat sink is studied numerically. Molecular dynamics (MD) method is employed aiming to get a microscopic ...insight into the complex liquid–vapour–solid system. In the present model, the Lennard-Jones potential is applied to mono-atomic molecules of argon as liquid and vapour, and platinum as solid substrates, to perform a simulation of non-equilibrium molecular dynamics. The results of numerical simulation suggest that for a completely wetting system of mono-atomic fluid and substrates, there is a non-evaporating liquid film with thickness in nanometres existing on the heating solid surface. The film thickness in the triple-phase contact line under different conditions of substrate temperature is predicted. The thickness of such an ultra-thin liquid film varies only slightly with the number of argon molecules but decreases with the increase of heating substrate temperature. The potential energy in the thin liquid film decreases considerably toward the heating wall; this indicates that the interactions of solid and liquid molecules are very strong.
To evaluate the safety and effects on blood transfusion of modified minimally cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
From April 2013 to February 2016, 1 103 elective cardiac surgery cases in National Center ...for Cardiovascular Diseases China, Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College were prospectively enrolled in the study. Patients undergoing modified minimally CPB were assigned to mini-CPB group (n=553), the others undergoing conventional CPB were assigned to conventional group (n=550). In mini-CPB group, oxygenator with integrated arterial filter, modified minimized circuit, mini-cardioplegia and vacuum assisted venous drainage(VAVD) were used. In conventional group, conventional CPB was composed with conventional oxygenator from the same manufactory, conventional circuit and 1∶4 blood cardioplegia. Analysis was performed with t test, t' test, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, χ(2) test, and Fisher exact test.
No CPB accidents and peri-operative stroke were observed. There was no st
Theory suggests that mating-system parameters in plants may be strongly influenced by pollinator type. We examined the outcrossing rate, biparental inbreeding, and inbreeding depression in two ...closely related species of Aquilegia, A. formosa and A. pubescens, that differ in their major floral visitors (hummingbird and hawkmoth, respectively). Population-level estimates of the outcrossing rate were generally high, ranging from 0.42 to 0.89 and averaging 0.79 for A. formosa and 0.69 for A. pubescens; however, the two rates did not differ significantly. The similarities in the outcrossing rates of the two species suggest that both hummingbird and hawkmoth pollination systems provide pollen movement patterns that promote a high degree of outcrossing. However, we also found that a substantial amount of outcrossing (13%-46%) was due to mating between relatives (biparental inbreeding). Using Ritland's genetic marker-based approach to estimate inbreeding depression, we found complete selection against inbred progeny (inbreeding depression = 1). We estimated when inbreeding depression is expressed by comparing the inbreeding coefficient across various life-history stages. We found that inbreeding depression is generally strong between seed germination and establishment and also occurs between seedling establishment and reproductive maturity. Our findings indicate that inbreeding depression likely removes selfed and biparentally inbred progenies from populations before flowering. This intense inbreeding depression will thus cause strong selection for any trait that increases the level of outcrossing with nonrelatives.
Eukaryotic initiation factor 6 (eIF6), an essential protein important in ribosome biosynthesis and assembly, was identified as an interacting partner of the beta-catenin C terminus in the yeast ...two-hybrid assay. Independent studies identified Drosophila eIF6 (DeIF6) in a genetic screen designed to detect new genes involved in the regulation of the Wnt/Wg (wingless) pathway. Ectopic expression of DeIF6 in wing discs results in a Wg phenotype. Expression of eIF6 in adenomatous polyposis coli (APC)-mutant colon cancer cells, which express high levels of active beta-catenin, showed that eIF6 selectively inhibits the Wnt pathway at the level of beta-catenin protein independently of proteasomal degradation. Incorporation of radiolabeled amino acids into beta-catenin was selectively decreased in cells that overexpressed eIF6. A similar inverse relationship of the two proteins was observed in the APC(min/+) mouse intestine, in which beta-catenin levels are very high. Taken together these data reveal a link between eIF6 and Wnt signaling, perhaps at the level of ribosome recycling on beta-catenin mRNA.
The effects of Mg and Mn contents on hot-rolling temperature and resultant tensile properties of Al-Mg-Mn alloys were investigated. The Al-3.5Mg-0.3 alloy as a reference and Al-7.5Mg-0.3Mn, ...Al-3.5Mg-1.0Mn alloys were prepared by casting for hot-rolling experiment. The rolling temperatures of both Al-7.5Mg-0.3Mn and Al-3.5Mg-1.0Mn alloys had to be decreased due to surface cracking during hot-rolling, which is caused by increased fractions of Mg-containing phases like Mg2Al3. The tensile strength of the hot-rolled Al-7.5Mg-0.3Mn alloy was highly increased by the combined effects of enhanced solid-solution and work-hardening at lower rolling temperature. And the resultant tensile strengths of the hot-rolled Al-3.5Mg-1.0Mn alloy were also increased due to dispersoid hardening by increased Mn content and work hardening during hot-rolling.
Outer space is a complex environment with various phenomena that negatively affect bone metabolism, including microgravity and highly energized ionizing radiation. In the present study, we used four ...groups of male Wistar rats treated with or without four-week hindlimb suspension after 4 Gy of X-rays to test whether there is a combined effect for hindlimb suspension and X-ray radiation. We tested trabecular parameters and some cytokines of the bone as leading indicators of bone metabolism. The results showed that hindlimb suspension and X-ray radiation could cause a significant increase in bone loss. Hindlimb suspension caused a 56.6% bone loss (P = 0.036), while X-ray radiation caused a 30.7% (P = 0.041) bone loss when compared with the control group. The combined factors of hindlimb suspension and X-rays exerted a combined effect on bone mass, with a reduction of 64.8% (P = 0.003).
Purpose: To improve the dose sensitivity and tissue equivalence of MAGIC gel dosimeter, the effect of sucrose as an additive is investigated. Methods: For the synthesis of the gel, sucrose was placed ...in high‐purity distilled water (HPLC) and dissolved at room temperature, this was followed by the addition of gelatine. Then, hydroquinone was added and the gel cooled to 40 degree. Lastly, methacrylic acid, ascorbic acid and copper (II) sulfate were added. A Biobeam 8000 (STS, Braunschweig, Germany) Cesium‐137 Gamma‐ray irradiator was used with a dose rate of 2.6 Gy/m. Magnetic resonance images of the gel were acquired by using a 3.0 T MRI. Results: Gels synthesized by adding sucrose to the MAGIC gel displayed increases in carbon content and decreases in oxygen content as the concentration of sucrose increased. When 20% sucrose was added to MAGIC Gel, it was possible to obtain an O/C ratio that matched that of soft tissue within a 5% range. This confirms that the low carbon content in the MAGIC gel could be improved by adding sucrose. Sucrose, as a substance that accelerates the polymerization of monomers, maintains linearity for a wide range of doses. It was possible to obtain a dose sensitivity that is approximately 3.45 times higher in a MAGIC gel dosimeter with a sucrose concentration of 30% compared to one with 0%. It was also possible to confirm that the slope‐to‐intercept ratio increased as the concentration of sucrose increased. Conclusion: Improved MAGIC gel concentrations have higher sensitivity and better elemental tissue equivalency for 3‐dimensional dosimetry in radiotherapy field. To investigate the value of fibrinogen to albumin ratio (FAR) at admission on predicting spontaneous recanalization of infarct-related artery (IRA) in patients with acute ST-segment elevation ...myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Clinical data from 255 acute STEMI patients ((61.1±11.2) years old, 189 males) who underwent emergency coronary angiography within 12 hours in our hospital from December 2015 to April 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The acute STEMI patients were divided into non-spontaneous recanalization group (thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow grade 0-1, 203 cases) and spontaneous recanalization group (TIMI flow grade 2-3, 52 cases). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate related factors of IRA spontaneous recanalization. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the value of FAR in predicting spontaneous coronary recanalization.
