Abstract Research background Employees of different ages have different needs and capabilities regarding their professional work. Effective age management requires a proper diagnosis of these ...elements. Purpose The article aims to compare the occupational situation of employees of different ages. An attempt was made to verify how representatives of different age groups (young, mature and older employees) perceive their occupational situation. Research methodology Data were collected through an online survey (CAWI) conducted among a representative sample of 1,067 full-time employees in Poland. Respondents rated the different elements that make up their job situation. As the research progressed, the results were aggregated. The mean score in each age group was calculated. Finally, a series of non-parametric analyses of variance (Kruskal-Wallis test) were carried out to check for any differences between the groups. Results Of the 24 components of the occupational situation analysed, only 12 showed statistically significant differences between the groups. Some results confirmed intuitive assumptions (e.g. regarding work experience) and some contradicted them (e.g. regarding familiarity with modern technologies). Novelty: Many common opinions about the occupational situation of younger and older employees are not reflected in reality.

Głównym celem artykułu jest porównanie, jak absencja chorobowa kształtuje się wśród pracowników z różnych grup wieku. Dodatkowym celem jest zweryfikowanie, czy w Polsce występuje taki sam wzór ...absencji chorobowej, jaki zaobserwowano w kilku innych krajach, polegający na odmiennym schemacie zachowań absencyjnych wśród młodszych i starszych pracowników. Do pomiaru absencji wykorzystane zostały trzy wskaźniki: (1) średnia częstość absencji w trakcie roku, (2) średnia długość absencji w trakcie roku, (3) średnia długość pojedynczego zwolnienia. Te wskaźniki skalkulowano dla pięcioletnich grup wieku, z uwzględnieniem dodatkowego podziału ze względu na płeć. Do obliczeń wykorzystano dane Zakładu Ubezpieczeń Społecznych na temat absencji chorobowej z tytułu choroby własnej za lata 2012–2019. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników można stwierdzić, że pracownicy, w zależności od wieku, cechują się odmiennymi zachowaniami absencyjnymi. Chodzi tutaj jednak nie tyle o ogólny poziom absencji, ile o szczegółową jej konfigurację w zakresie poszczególnych parametrów. Przede wszystkim udało się potwierdzić wzór absencji chorobowej w odniesieniu do najmłodszych i najstarszych pracowników: najmłodsi pracownicy najczęściej korzystają ze zwolnień i są one najkrótsze, podczas gdy najstarsi pracownicy najrzadziej korzystają ze zwolnień i są one najdłuższe.
Abstract
Retirement timing is an issue of great political importance these days. Policy-makers develop various initiatives encouraging workers to postpone retirement beyond the statutory retirement ...age. This effort brings, however, just minimal outcomes. Although increasing opportunities and abilities to work in old age, in some countries people tend to retire as soon as it is possible. In economic terms, they make suboptimal (irrational) decisions.
The main aim of the article is to evaluate determinants of demand for private long-term care insurance in Poland. Since this type of insurance is not (yet) offered on the market, the demand was ...examined through a survey in which respondents declared their willingness to purchase it. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that Poles declare a high propensity for private protection in the event of dependence. The vast majority (almost two-thirds) of the respondents were interested in purchasing long-term care insurance, while only one in sixteen respondents showed no such interest. Factors that predominantly determine the willingness to buy are as follows: individual foresight, knowledge about the costs of long-term care, preferences regarding methods of financing care, having children, and the level of education.
The propensity to abuse sickness leave is a complex issue conditioned by various individual and contextual factors. The aim of the article is to assess the effect of various work-related factors on ...the abuse of sick leave in Poland. Three categories of sick leave abuse were distinguished: compulsion, escape and recreation. The data were gathered using the CAWI survey. Statistical analyzes incorporated multivariable linear regression and structural equation modelling. The research sample consisted of 1067 respondents (full-time employees). Some work-related factors have a significant impact on the abuse of sick leave. These factors are: (1) motivational working conditions, (2) social working conditions, (3) qualifications and (4) form of ownership. The main conclusion is that the assessment of specific aspects of working conditions has a different impact on the declared abuse of sickness absence. A high assessment of the 'social' (interpersonal) aspect is associated with a low tendency to engage in unethical behavior, whereas a high assessment of the 'motivational' aspect is associated with a high tendency in this respect. Moreover, it was found that a low tendency to abuse is also expressed by people who highly assess their professional qualifications. Finally, abuses are committed relatively often by public administration employees.
Abstract Objective The tendency to abuse sickness absence is a complex problem conditioned by many factors, that can be divided, depending on the level of impact, into three groups: micro (related to ...personal characteristics), meso (related to the work environment), and macro (related to the broader environment). The subject of interest in the article is the first level (micro). The aim is to evaluate the impact of various personal factors on the declared abuse of sickness leave in Poland. Research Design & Methods The data was gathered using the CAWI survey. The research sample consisted of 1067 respondents (full-time employees). Statistical analysis incorporated multivariable linear regression and structural equation modelling. Findings Some personal characteristics have a significant impact on the declared abuse of sick leave. These factors are: gender, age, number of children, place of living, marital status, and subjective health. We found no impact of education and financial status. Implications & Recommendations Although abusing sick leave is a serious economic and organisational problem, its causes still remain relatively poorly recognised. Personal characteristics determine the propensity to abuse sick leave, and they need to be taken into account under the process of managing absence behaviours. Contribution & Value Added The added value of the study is drawing attention to the new personal factors which were not previously identified as a determinant of abuse of sick leave. These are: the number of children, place of living, and marital status.
This paper highlights the issues arising from an obligation such as surety. Under the provisions of the Polish Civil Code, the legal position of a guarantor is closely related to non-legal factors. ...The ambiguity and uncertainty of the status of a guarantor are even greater due to the variability in time of the normative construction of a surety. Therefore, in addition to the measures available in law, a certain counterweight, such as the general public values, is necessary to address this state of affairs. The most widely understood trust, being the necessary condition for the proper development of a modern democratic state of law, may undoubtedly play that role.
Przedmiot badań: Przedmiotem badania jest absencja chorobowa, która poza stanem zdrowia kształtuje się również pod wpływem innych czynników indywidualnych oraz kontekstualnych, w tym także pod ...wpływem sytuacji na rynku pracy.
Cel badawczy: Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie, w jaki sposób zmiana poziomu bezrobocia wpływa na zachowania absencyjne pracowników w Polsce. Skupiono się na podwójnej perspektywie czasowej: długookresowej, uwzględniającej fluktuację koniunkturalną, oraz średniookresowej, uwzględniającej fluktuację sezonową.
Metoda badawcza: W toku prac badawczych przeprowadzono analizę danych statystycznych pochodzących z dwóch źródeł: informacje na temat absencji chorobowej zostały pozyskane z Zakładu Ubezpieczeń Społecznych, natomiast informacje na temat bezrobocia zostały pozyskane z Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego.
Wyniki: Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników udało się potwierdzić wpływ bezrobocia koniunkturalnego na zachowania absencyjne w Polsce, a także zgromadzić kilka przesłanek mogących pośrednio świadczyć o wpływie bezrobocia sezonowego. Ustalono ponadto, że w przypadku fluktuacji sezonowej nie sprawdzają się prawidłowości, które wcześniej zostały potwierdzone dla fluktuacji koniunkturalnej. Po pierwsze, odwrotny jest kierunek zachodzących zmian. O ile w cyklu koniunkturalnym, wraz ze wzrostem bezrobocia, poziom absencji maleje, to w cyklu sezonowym odwrotnie – rośnie. Po drugie, odmienna jest zmiana struktury absencji. O ile w cyklu koniunkturalnym wraz ze wzrostem bezrobocia udział krótkoterminowych zwolnień maleje, to w cyklu sezonowym odwrotnie – rośnie.
