The printing process, which is an aesthetically significant process subprocess in garment design, has the potential to
affect the physical properties and sensory comfort of the fabric. Due to its low ...cost and very fast process period and the
fact that it is environmentally conscious, pigment printing is widely used in the textile industry. This study it’s aimed to
guide the designers in the selection of printing type for piece printing according to the fabric type by considering the print
area and print pattern in the apparel industry. For this purpose, the effects of commonly used pigment printing pastes
on the physical properties and sensorial comfort in knit fabrics of different constructions were studied. To that end, two
different patterns were applied to three knit fabrics with different constructions by using three different pigment printing
methods to assess several features of the fabrics, namely, print quality, air permeability, roughness, compressibility and
bending. As a result of this study, it was observed that the printing application method and print pattern design have a
significant impact on the handle properties of the fabric. Consequently, it was revealed that it is necessary to take into
account the printing application method and print pattern design in the process of printed clothing design. Among the
print types evaluated in this study, the best print type was determined in terms of sensorial comfort and physical
properties. In addition, suggestions were made on the issues to be considered during the print design of print types with
worse comfort and physical properties.
Psoriasis might bring about an increased risk of liver diseases like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and fibrosis. The impact of methotrexate on liver function is still a cause for concern, because ...of the studies suggesting an increased risk of liver damage and others finding no association. The focus of this study was the liver functions in psoriatic patients investigating the impact of long-term use of methotrexate on liver in psoriasis. A retrospective investigation including 140 patients with psoriasis receiving methotrexate treatment for at least 6 months and a control group consisted of 105 healthy ones was conducted. Liver function tests (AST, ALT, PLT) were assessed, and the association of baseline PASI with FIB-4 and APRI values was investigated. Additionally, FIB-4 and APRI values at baseline, 3rd, and 6th months of methotrexate treatment for psoriasis were compared. Compared with the controls, psoriatic patients exhibited significantly higher FIB-4 scores (
p
= 0.004). A moderate and significant correlation was observed between baseline PASI score and baseline FIB-4 score in psoriatic patients (
p
< 0.001, rho = 0.626). Long-term methotrexate use had no effect on APRI or FIB-4 (
p
= 0.104 and
p
= 0.475, respectively). Psoriatic patients face an elevated risk of liver fibrosis. Long-term methotrexate use does not adversely affect liver function in psoriatic patients. Noninvasive tools like APRI and FIB-4 scores can be employed to evaluate the risk of liver disease in these patients.
PurposeThis study establishes the principles and process steps of a new basic trousers pattern using measurements obtained according to the rules of the anthropometric measurement system. The newly ...developed pattern-making system in this study will be called the “Anthropometric Measurements Based Pattern Making System” (AnMePa). It is aimed at producing trousers that are more fitting to the body, thanks to this pattern-making system.Design/methodology/approachIn this research, four pattern-making systems used in many parts of the world were compared with the “Anthropometric Measurements Based Pattern Making System” (AnMePa) with regard to the overall appearance and body fit of trousers prepared according to these systems. 10 virtual mannequins (VM) with different adult female body measurements were created, and trousers patterns were prepared for these mannequins. The trousers’ patterns were made and dressed on the mannequins in a 3D virtual dressing system. The body fit of the virtual garments was evaluated by five experts. The scores given by the experts were evaluated using the fuzzy logic method.FindingsAccording to the results, it is seen that the new basic trousers pattern developed by utilizing the anthropometric measurement system, AnMePa, provides the best body fit among the basic trousers patterns created according to the other examined pattern-making systems. The combination of 3D virtual dressing and fuzzy logic in the evaluation of garment body fit is considered an innovative method for the future of fashion design and production.Originality/valueIn the developed AnMePa, unlike the existing pattern-making systems, values that can be associated with the body measurements of individuals in a way that could be suitable for each community were used instead of constant values in the pattern-making process. Furthermore, the integration of 3D virtual fitting and fuzzy logic in assessing garment fit is considered a pioneering approach with significant implications for the future landscape of fashion design and production.
PurposeThis study aims to develop a sports bra with cosmetic microcapsules that supports the breasts and provides an aesthetically upright and lifted posture by using 28 days ...period.Design/methodology/approachA fitting process was carried out on provided seamless sports bras to determine the criteria that have to be improved considering the desired properties. The new sports bras were produced after the pattern design was developed; cosmetic microcapsules were applied to some of the bras and some were used as a control group to compare the real cosmetic effects. Female subjects tried the newly developed sports bras in a 28-day wear trial. Measurements were taken at certain periods during the wear trials, and the obtained data were analyzed statistically.FindingsThe findings of this study determined that the product provides a decrease in breast girth and increases skin moisture and nipple height after 28 days of regular use due to the effect of cosmetic ingredients released from microcapsules. A great majority of subjects found the breast lifting and supporting property of the sports bra successful and were satisfied with the new shape of the subjects' breasts.Originality/valueFitting studies were carried out directly on the female body, and the designed and developed encapsulating type sports bra has been transformed into a cosmetic textile product that gains also cosmetic properties. The cosmetic effects of the bra were investigated with wear trials. On the other hand, the nipple height measure term was defined for the first time and added to the literature within the scope of the study.
Urticaria is a common inflammatory skin disease characterized with itchy erythematous plaques due to mast cell degranulation. Clinically, it is characterized by erythematous and edematous papules and plaques. In patients with urticaria, in whom hyperbilirubinemia is detected in the serum, yellowish plaques can be seen on the skin. In the literature, cases of yellow urticaria associated with chronic liver disease, acute liver failure, biliary diseases, transfusion and antiviral treatments have been reported. In this case, we aimed to present a patient with hepatic cirrhosis due to hepatitis B infection, who was followed up and received antiviral therapy, who developed yellow urticarial papules, and plaque, and to raise awareness that yellow urticarial macules, papules and plaques can be seen due to hyperbilirubinemia in patients with urticaria.
Methotrexate (MTX) is commonly used as first-line systemic treatment agent in psoriasis. We aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics and treatment responses of patients with psoriasis ...undergoing MTX monotherapy. Data from adult patients with plaque psoriasis who received MTX monotherapy for at least 3 months between April 2012 and April 2022 were retrospectively evaluated in 19 tertiary care centers. Our study included 722 female and 799 male patients, a total of 1521 participants. The average age of the patients was 44.3 ± 15.5 years. Mode of treatment was oral in 20.4% of patients while in 79.4% it was subcutaneous. The median treatment duration was 8 months (
IQR
= 5–15). The median weekly dose was 15 mg (
IQR
= 11–15). 1448 (95.2%) patients were taking folic acid supplementation. At week 12, 16.3% of the patients achieved PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index) 90 response while at week 24, 37.3% achieved it. Logistic regression analysis for week 12 identified the following independent factors affecting PASI 90 achievement positively: median weekly MTX dose ≤ 15 mg (
P
= 0.011), subcutaneous administration (
P
= 0.005), no prior systemic treatment (< 0.001) and folic acid use (0.021). In logistic regression analysis for week 24; median weekly MTX dose ≤ 15 mg (
P
= 0.001), baseline PASI ≥ 10 (
P
< 0.001), no prior systemic treatment (
P
< 0.004), folic acid use (
P
= 0.001) and absence of comorbidities (
P
= 0.009) were determined as independent factors affecting the achievement of PASI 90. Adverse effects were observed in 38.8% of the patients, with nausea/vomiting (23.9%) and transaminase elevation (13%) being the most common. The most common reasons for interruptions (15.3%) and discontinuations (27.1%) of the treatment were patient related individual factors. The use of MTX as the first systemic treatment agent, at doses ≤ 15 mg/week and concurrent folic acid application are positive predictive factors for achieving the target PASI response both at weeks 12 and 24. In our study, which is one of the most comprehensive studies on MTX treatment in psoriasis, we observed that MTX is an effective and safe treatment option.
Little is known about the impact of patient behavior on the treatment of psoriasis in the COVID-19 pandemic.
We aimed to investigate the COVID-19 knowledge of the patients with psoriasis receiving ...systemic therapy in the pandemic.
The patients who received systemic treatment for psoriasis presented to our dermatology outpatient clinic were enrolled in the study. A questionnaire measuring the level of knowledge about COVID-19 and psoriasis was administered to patients. Demographics and disease characteristics of patients were recorded.
A total of 183 patients with psoriasis were enrolled in the study. Of the patients, 33.9% thought that psoriasis exposes them to a risk of getting COVID-19, 30.6% declared that psoriasis treatment exposes them to a risk of getting COVID-19, and 59.6% were worried about getting COVID-19. The treatment discontinuation rate was 42.1%. The patients with high scholar level showed more anxiety and discontinued their treatment.
The patients with psoriasis did not have adequate knowledge of the effect of both psoriasis itself and its treatment on COVID-19 during the pandemic. The patients on biologic therapy tend to discontinue their treatment based upon the physician's recommendation, whereas those on conventional therapy mostly on their own will. Clinicians should inform patients about current evidence of COVID-19 and psoriasis.
In recent years, with the increase in global awareness of environmental problems, the term “sustainability” became more important for apparel manufacturers and consumers. Therefore, recycling of ...wastes plays a significant role in environmental sustainability by converting the wastes into raw materials. This study focused on recycled cotton-included fabrics, to evaluate the effect of these fabrics on thermal comfort properties. In this context, first, the 45% recycled cotton/55% polyester blended yarns and 50% virgin cotton/50% blended yarns were obtained. Afterwards, single jersey and rib-structured fabrics were knitted using these yarns. The thermal comfort tests were performed on the fabrics and four long sleeve rounded neck shirts then were manufactured using these fabrics to test by the thermal manikin method. Results showed that the yarns including recycled cotton led to a decrease in the values in air permeability of the fabrics and in the effective clothing insulation of the garments. In contrast, it was observed that, including recycled cotton increased the thermal resistance values of the fabrics.
