Macrophages are specialized phagocytes that play an essential role in inflammation, immunity, and tissue repair. Profiling the global proteomic response of macrophages to microbial molecules such as ...bacterial lipopolysaccharide is key to understanding fundamental mechanisms of inflammatory disease. Ethanol is a widely abused substance that has complex effects on inflammation. Reports have indicated that ethanol can activate or inhibit the lipopolysaccharide receptor, Toll-like Receptor 4, in different settings, with important consequences for liver and neurologic inflammation, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. To profile the sequential effect of low dose ethanol and lipopolysaccharide on macrophages, a gel-free proteomic technique was applied to RAW 264.7 macrophages. Five hundred four differentially expressed proteins were identified and quantified with high confidence using ≥ 5 peptide spectral matches. Among these, 319 proteins were shared across all treatment conditions, and 69 proteins were exclusively identified in ethanol-treated or lipopolysaccharide-stimulated cells. The interactive impact of ethanol and lipopolysaccharide on the macrophage proteome was evaluated using bioinformatics tools, enabling identification of differentially responsive proteins, protein interaction networks, disease- and function-based networks, canonical pathways, and upstream regulators. Five candidate protein coding genes (PGM2, ISYNA1, PARP1, and PSAP) were further validated by qRT-PCR that mostly related to glucose metabolism and fatty acid synthesis pathways. Taken together, this study describes for the first time at a systems level the interaction between ethanol and lipopolysaccharide in the proteomic programming of macrophages, and offers new mechanistic insights into the biology that may underlie the impact of ethanol on infectious and inflammatory disease in humans.

Abstract
Mesocyclops leuckarti is a zooplankton that is potentially suitable as a live food for freshwater fish larvae. Aquaculture farmers often struggled to create nutritious live feed to maximize ...the production of larval fish. This study aimed to determine the effects of different enrichments on life-table parameters, protein, lipid and fatty acid content of M. leuckarti when enriched with different dietary enrichments. In this study, five treatments for raising the copepod were compared: rice bran, soybean meal, Chlorella sp., Spirulina sp., and unenriched (control). The results showed that M. leuckarti after 16 days of cultivation enriched with rice bran produced a higher population density (53.3 ind/ml) and survival rate (97.4%) than when cultivated with any of the other diets. In terms of nutritional value, protein content was higher in M. leuckarti enriched with rice bran (52% DW) and soybean meal (53% DW). However, lipid content was highest in M. leuckarti enriched with rice bran (14% DW). Fatty acids, such as α-linolenic acid ALA (7.21%) and docosahexaenoic acid DHA (6.26%) were higher in M. leuckarti enriched with rice bran. Eicosapentaenoic acid EPA (7.16%) and arachidonic acid ARA (7.74%) were higher in M. leuckarti enriched with Chlorella sp. This study suggests that organic by-products are better sources for strengthening and improving the growth performance and life history of this copepod, and possibly also of zooplankton organisms in general.

Seagrasses, a functional group of marine flowering plants rooted in the world’s coastal oceans, support marine food webs and provide essential habitat for many coastal species, playing a critical role in the equilibrium of coastal ecosystems and human livelihoods. For the first time, the probability of extinction is determined for the world’s seagrass species under the Categories and Criteria of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. Several studies have indicated that seagrass habitat is declining worldwide. Our focus is to determine the risk of extinction for individual seagrass species, a 4-year process involving seagrass experts internationally, compilation of data on species’ status, populations, and distribution, and review of the biology and ecology of each of the world’s seagrass species. Ten seagrass species are at elevated risk of extinction (14% of all seagrass species), with three species qualifying as Endangered. Seagrass species loss and degradation of seagrass biodiversity will have serious repercussions for marine biodiversity and the human populations that depend upon the resources and ecosystem services that seagrasses provide.
A significant component of immune biology research is the investigation of protein encoding genes that play central roles in contributing inflammatory response. A gel-free quantitative bottom-up ...proteomics study was performed on immune cell macrophages after the combined treatment of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and statin drugs using mass spectrometry and a detailed bioinformatics analyses were conducted. Systematic bioinformatics analysis was applied for discovering novel relationships among proteins and effects of statin and lipopolysaccharide in macrophage cells. Based on gene ontology, majority of protein encoding genes was involved in metabolic and cellular processes and are actively associated with binding, structural molecular, and catalytic activity. Notably, proteomic data analyzed by Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA), discovered the plectin and prohibitin 2 protein interactions network and inflammatory-disease based protein networks. Two up-regulated proteins, plectin and prohibitin 2, were further validated by immunoblotting. Plectin was also cross-validated by immunocytochemistry, since its expression was highly modulated by statin but inhibited during LPS-stimulation. Collectively, the significant up-regulation of plectin due to the treatment of statin, suggests that statin has a significant impact on the cytoskeletal networks of cells. Plectin might have a significant role in the intermediate filament assembly and dynamics, and possibly stabilizing and crosslinking intermediate filament networks.

. Carbon contents in soils of different sized fractions inconsistently varied with organic and inorganic fertilization and time elapsed. The highest amount of organic C was sequestered in cow dung-treated plots followed by rice straw, rice husk biochar, poultry manure and vermicompost. Nitrogen fertilizer enhanced decomposition of organic materials, and therefore, C sequestration was significantly lower with higher N rates. The study recommends continuous application of organic fertilizers and optimization of N in the tropical and subtropical regions which ultimately either contribute to maintain or increase C sequestration in crop fields.
Abstract
The behavioural response of the mud lobster, Thalassina anomala Herbst, 1804, to different trapping devices (TD), was studied in the mangrove areas of Sibuti, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Nine ...different TDs were deployed in this study. Observations revealed that there were no differences in response, neither due to the various types of mound, or as a result of the different TDs: rather, the lobsters either avoided, or obstructed those TDs. Detailed observations revealed that the mud lobsters showed skilled avoidance by either moving freshly dug, moist mud into the TD-types made of bamboo and plastic, or moved the fishing net out of the burrow when it was obstructed by such a type of TD. The damaged parts of the mound caused by deployment of the TD were successfully reconstructed or rebuilt by the mud lobster, using moist mud from the bottom of their tunnel. There was no particular period determined, i.e., neither by day nor at night, when the mud lobsters repaired or rebuilt their opened or otherwise disturbed burrows.

The coastal area of Bangladesh includes a number of bays into which different types of rivers empty, creating an estuarine ecosystem adjacent to the shore. The main estuarine systems are ...Brahmaputra-Megna (Gangetic delta), Karnaphuly, Matamuhuri, Bakkhali and Naf rivers, which are comprised of mangroves, salt marshes, seagrass, seaweeds, fisheries, coastal birds, animals, coral reefs, deltas, salt beds, minerals and sand dunes. The estuarine environment, which serves as feeding, breeding and nursery grounds for a variety of animals, varies according to the volume of discharge of the river and tidal range. It is highly productive in terms of nutrient input from different sources that promotes other living resources in the estuaries. Drought conditions exist during the winter months, i.e. November to February, and effective rainfall is confined to the monsoon period, i.e. May to June. Changes in salinity and turbidity depend on annual rainfall. The colour of most estuarine waters is tea brown or brown due to heavy outflows during the monsoon. The tidal mixing and riverine discharge governs the distribution of the hydrological parameters. The pH of these waters is reported to be slightly alkaline (>7.66) and dissolved oxygen (<6.0 mg/l) shows an inverse relationship to temperature. Studies of plankton have indicated two periods of maximum abundance, i.e. February-March and August-September. The abundance of fish and shrimp larvae varies in number and composition with season. Many marine and freshwater species are available in various types of coastal brackish water, which depend on monsoonal activities and local environmental conditions.
The present work aimed to find out the antibacterial activity of Nymphaea nouchali flower on human and plant pathogenic bacteria.
Antibacterial potency of methanol, acetone, ethyl acetate and ...petroleum spirit extracts of Nymphaea nouchali flower has been tested against four human pathogenic bacteria Bacillus subtilis (FO 3026) Escherichia coli (IFO 3007), Klebsiella pneumonia (ATTC 10031) and Sarcina lutea (IFO 3232) and one plant pathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas campestris (IAM 1671) by disc diffusion assay. Zone of inhibition produced by different extracts against the test bacteria was measured and compared with standard antibiotic disc.
Methanol extract possessed better antibacterial activity against two pathogenic bacteria, B. subtilis (FO 3026) and S. lutea (IFO 3232) than commercial antibiotic nalidixic acid. Acetone extract showed moderate sensitivity whereas B. subtilis (FO 3026), S. lutea (IFO 3232) and X. campestris (IAM 1671) showed resistance to ethyl acetate and petroleum spirit extracts. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of various extracts were ranged between 128-2048 μgml-1.
Nymphaea nouchali flower could be a potential candidate for future development of novel broad spectrum antibacterial herbal formulation.
Infodemics, often including rumors, stigma, and conspiracy theories, have been common during the COVID-19 pandemic. Monitoring social media data has been identified as the best method for tracking ...rumors in real time and as a possible way to dispel misinformation and reduce stigma. However, the detection, assessment, and response to rumors, stigma, and conspiracy theories in real time are a challenge. Therefore, we followed and examined COVID-19-related rumors, stigma, and conspiracy theories circulating on online platforms, including fact-checking agency websites, Facebook, Twitter, and online newspapers, and their impacts on public health. Information was extracted between December 31, 2019 and April 5, 2020, and descriptively analyzed. We performed a content analysis of the news articles to compare and contrast data collected from other sources. We identified 2,311 reports of rumors, stigma, and conspiracy theories in 25 languages from 87 countries. Claims were related to illness, transmission and mortality (24%), control measures (21%), treatment and cure (19%), cause of disease including the origin (15%), violence (1%), and miscellaneous (20%). Of the 2,276 reports for which text ratings were available, 1,856 claims were false (82%). Misinformation fueled by rumors, stigma, and conspiracy theories can have potentially serious implications on the individual and community if prioritized over evidence-based guidelines. Health agencies must track misinformation associated with the COVID-19 in real time, and engage local communities and government stakeholders to debunk misinformation.
