Only one-third of the nucleons in 208Pb occupy the saturation density area. Consequently, nuclear observables related to the average properties of nuclei, such as masses or radii, constrain the ...equation of state not at the saturation density but rather around the so-called crossing density, localized close to the mean value of the density of nuclei: ρ is approximately equal to 0.11 fm(-3). This provides an explanation for the empirical fact that several equation of state quantities calculated with various functionals cross at a density significantly lower than the saturation one. The third derivative M of the energy per unit of volume at the crossing density is constrained by the giant monopole resonance measurements in an isotopic chain rather than the incompressibility at saturation density. The giant monopole resonance measurements provide M=1100±70 MeV (6% uncertainty), whose extrapolation gives K(∞)=230±40 MeV (17% uncertainty).
The current ARDS guidelines highly recommend lung protective ventilation which include plateau pressure (P
< 30 cm H
O), positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP > 5 cm H
O) and tidal volume (V
of ...6 ml/kg) of predicted body weight. In contrast, the ELSO guidelines suggest the evaluation of an indication of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) due to hypoxemic or hypercapnic respiratory failure or as bridge to lung transplantation. Finally, these recommendations remain a wide range of scope of interpretation. However, particularly patients with moderate-severe to severe ARDS might benefit from strict adherence to lung protective ventilation strategies. Subsequently, we discuss whether extended physiological ventilation parameter analysis might be relevant for indication of ECMO support and can be implemented during the daily routine evaluation of ARDS patients. Particularly, this viewpoint focus on driving pressure and mechanical power.
This paper presents a comprehensive study of the performance of a newly developed titania nanotube incorporated RO membrane for endocrine-disrupting compound (EDC) removal at a low concentration. ...EDCs are known as an emerging contaminant, and if these pollutants are not properly removed, they can enter the water cycle and reach the water supply for residential use, causing harm to human health. Reverse osmosis (RO) has been known as a promising technology to remove EDCs. However, there is a lack of consensus on their performance, especially on the feed concentrations of EDC that vary from one source to another. In this study, polyamide thin-film composite (PA TFC) membrane was incorporated with one-dimensional titania nanotube (TNT) to mitigate trade-off between water permeability and solute rejection of EDC. The characterization indicated that the membrane surface hydrophilicity has been greatly increased with the presence of TNT. Using bisphenol A (BPA) and caffeine as model EDC, the removal efficiencies of the pristine TFC and thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) membranes were evaluated. Compared to TFC membrane, the membrane modified with 0.01% of TNT exhibited improved permeability of 50% and 49% for BPA and caffeine, respectively. A satisfactory BPA rejection of 89.05% and a caffeine rejection of 97.89% were achieved by the TNT incorporated TFN membranes. Furthermore, the greater hydrophilicity and smoother surface of 0.01 TFN membrane led to lower membrane fouling tendency under long-term filtration.

Abstract Stunting is a significant public health problem in low- and middle-income countries. This study assessed the prevalence of stunting and associated risk factors of stunting among preschool ...and school-going children in flood-affected areas of Pakistan. A cross-sectional study was conducted by visiting 656 households through multi-stage sampling. Respondent’s anthropometric measurements, socio-demographic information and sanitation facilities were explored. A logistic regression model was used to determine determinants of stunting, controlling for all possible confounders. The overall prevalence of stunting in children was 40.5%, among children 36.1% boys and 46.3% of girls were stunted. The prevalence of stunting in under-five children was 50.7%. Female children (OR=1.35, 95% CI:0.94-2.0), children aged 13-24 months (OR=6.5, 95% CI: 3.0-13.9), mothers aged 15-24 years (OR=4.4, 95% CI: 2.6-7.2), joint family (OR=2.1, 95% CI: 1.4-3.0) did not have access to improved drinking water (OR=3.3, 95% CI: 1.9-5.9), and the toilet facility (OR=2.8, 95% CI, 1.9-4.3), while the children from district Nowshera (OR=1.7, 95% CI: 0.9-3.2) were significantly (P<0.05) associated in univariate analysis. The regression model revealed that child age, maternal age, family type, quality of water, and toilet facility, were the significant (P<0.05) factors contributing to child stunting in the flood-hit areas. Identification of key factors might be helpful for policymakers in designing comprehensive community-based programs for the reduction of stunting in flood-affected areas. In disasters such as flood, the detrimental consequences of the stunting problem could be even more on children. Evidence-based education and care must be provided to the families in the flood-affected regions to reduce the stunting problem. The determinants of stunting should be targeted by making comprehensive policies regarding proper nutrition, livelihood, clean water, and sanitation facilities in flood-hit regions.
Abstract
Reuse of wastewater for vegetable cultivation is becoming popular in order to augment the inadequate irrigation supplies and meet the growing demands of ground water for agriculture and ...industries production in different regions of the world. This study was investigated to optimize different stages of textile dyeing wastewater (TDW) for irrigation focusing on their effect on growth, yield and physiochemical attributes of tomato, plant nutrient use, heavy metals enrichment and pollution load of the irrigated soil. Textile wastewater were collected from the seven stages of (second wash after scouring and bleaching T2; enzyme treated water T3; second wash after bath drain T4; neutralization treatment T5; second wash after soaping T6; fixing treatment water T7; mixed effluent T8) of a dyeing process for physiochemical characterization and evaluation their irrigation feasibility for tomato cultivation in compare with the ground water (T1). The pot experiment consists of eight irrigation treatments was laid out following a completely randomized block design with three replications. Results showed the presence of plant nutrients and heavy metals in all the studied samples where T8 (mixed effluent) exceeded the limit of agricultural standard for almost all physiological parameters such as TDS, TSS, EC, BOD, COD affording the highest value. T8 also delivered the highest Cl- and heavy metals like Cd, Ni, Cr followed by T4 < T7. As a consequence, these provided comparatively higher enrichment factor (EF), pollution load index (PLI) and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) to transform fresh soil into the category of severe and slightly to moderate saline. Therefore, the yield and physiochemical attributes of tomato were dramatically reduced with T8 and T4 treatment. On the other hand, T2, T3 and T6 treatment had significant positive impact on growth and yield of tomato due to having higher N, P, K, S and lower heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Fe, Pb, Cd, Ni, Cr) than the recommended guideline. These features were contributed to cause minimum EF and PLI in the soil irrigated with T2, T3 and T6 stages of TDW. Correlation matrix demonstrated that EF and PLI of heavy metals (except Cd, Ni) were negatively related to yield, while positively related to SAR and fruit abortion. Although T6 (2nd wash after soaping) performed better in respect to growth, yield, yield attributes and nutrient use efficiency, principal component analysis revealed that T2 (2nd wash after scouring and bleaching) and T3 (enzyme treated water) were also belong to the same group of T6 and T1 (ground water). Thus, it may be suggested that T2, T3 and T6 stages of textile dyeing wastewater could be used profitably without ETP for vegetable cultivation and would effectively supplement not only the nutrient requirement of the crop but may also act as the alternate source of irrigation water. Although, further research is needed to sort out the health risk assessment through the heavy metals’ accumulation in the plant parts after irrigation with different stages of textile dyeing wastewater.
There are different opinions around the World regarding the zoonotic capability of H3N8 equine influenza viruses. In this report, we have tried to summarize the findings of different research and ...review articles from Chinese, English, and Mongolian Scientific Literature reporting the evidence for equine influenza virus infections in human beings. Additionally, several recent developments in the start of 21st century, including the transmission and establishment of equine influenza viruses in different animal species i.e. camels and dogs, and presumed encephalopathy associated to influenza viruses in horses, have documented the unpredictable nature of equine influenza viruses. In sum up, several reports has highlighted the unpredictable nature of H3N8 EIVs highlighting the need of continuous surveillance for H3N8 in equines and humans in contact with them for novel and threatening mutations.
In this paper, a simple yet highly accurate algorithm for No-Reference quality estimation of blurred images is proposed. The proposed work is motivated by the fact that when blurring occurs, regions ...with large pixel variations are likely to be affected more than the regions with small pixel variations. Since the human visual system is also more attentive to distortions in the regions with large pixel variations; therefore, it will be advantageous to exploit them for blurriness estimation. Moreover, blurring also causes loss of details, thereby resulting in the decrease in mean pixel variation and the maximum pixel variation. It is also observed that the ratio of mean to maximum pixel variation increases with blurriness. Motivated by these facts, the maximum pixel variation and mean pixel variation are utilized to estimate the quality of the image affected by the blurriness. The proposed algorithm is highly competitive and outperforms most of the state-of-the-art algorithms both in time-complexity as well as accuracy over various standard databases.
