Les pluriels internes des noms et des adjectifs en arabe, aussi appelés pluriels "brisés", posent un défi à la théorie morphologique : ils ne mettent pas ouvertement en jeu l'affixation d'un morphème ...de pluralité, mais semblent plutôt reposer sur un contraste de formes qui, si elles partagent la même racine consonantique, diffèrent, entre autres, pour la vocalisation. Cet article propose une analyse de la formation des pluriels internes qui dérive toutes les formes par un unique processus, à savoir l'insertion de l'un des trois glides /I/, /U/ et /A/ dans un site particulier localisé entre la 2e et la 3e consonne radicale, le site post-C2, avec pour effet la création d'une position d'attaque (C) ou de noyau (V). Il explore ensuite les conséquences de cette analyse pour l'organisation générale de la grammaire. On y développe une version modifiée de la théorie dite "Morphologie Distribuée", telle que le lexique est conçu comme un ensemble d'ensembles d'éléments pourvus de significations mais dépourvus de forme, et l'épel est une fonction qui prend des ensembles d'éléments pour produire des objets phonologiques bien formés, à savoir des suites CV.
Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) seeks to improve the computation throughput of a processor core by sharing primary resources such as functional units, issue bandwidth, and caches. SMT designs ...increase utilization and generally improve overall throughput, but the amount of improvement is highly dependent on competition for shared resources between the scheduled threads. This variability has implications that relate to operating system scheduling, simulation techniques, and fairness. Although these techniques recognize the implications of thread interaction, they do little to profile and predict this interaction. The modeling approach presented in this paper uses data collected from performance counters on two different hardware implementations of Pentium-4 hyper-threading processors to demonstrate the effects of thread interaction. Techniques are described for fitting linear regression models and recursive partitioning to use the counters to make online predictions of performance (expressed as instructions per cycle); these predictions can be used by the operating system to guide scheduling decisions. A detailed analysis of the effectiveness of each of these techniques is presented.

NSAIDs are well known for treating inflammatory disease and have been reported to have an anti‐tumorigenic affect. Our lab has previously shown that NSAIDs also induce other ...anti‐tumorigenic genes including NSAID activated gene (NAG‐1). This makes NSAIDs a prime candidate for further study. HCT‐116 cells treated with sulindac sulfide (SS) showed dramatic morphological changes under differential interference contrast microscopy as well as weakened cellular adhesion as measured by micro‐impedance. Microarray analysis was performed using HCT‐116 cells treated with SS, and NUANCE (NUA), a novel connection between the actin skeleton and the nuclear envelope, was selected based on its novelty in relation to cell adhesion and biogenesis. SS diminished NUA mRNA expression by one third and various other NSAIDs also showed inhibition of NUA. Additionally, immunohistochemistry showed higher levels of NUA in tumors of many tissues. Further micro‐impedance experiments on cells with shRNA NUA showed a reduction in cellular adhesion. Thus, our data suggest that NUA may be a potential novel oncogene in human colorectal cancer cells and NSAIDs could decrease its expression.

Arabic internal plurals of nouns & adjectives (also known as "broken" plurals) raise a challenge for morphological theory in that they do not obviously involve affixation of a plural morpheme ...analogous to, eg, English /-ez/. Rather, they show a contrast of forms that share the same consonantal root, but differ in vocalization & possibly on other counts as well. This article proposes an analysis of internal plural formation that derives all forms through a single process, viz, inserting one of the three glides /I/, /U/, & /A/ into a specific site located between the 2nd & 3rd root consonants, the post-C2 site, thereby creating an onset (C) or a nucleus (V) position. It then explores the consequences of this account for the overall organization of grammar. A modified version of Distributed Morphology is put forward that construes the lexicon as a set of sets of elements endowed with meanings but no forms, & where Spell Out is a function that takes element sets & returns legitimate phonological objects, ie, CV strings. 58 References. The polarization behavior of a Zr50Cu40Al10 (atomic percent) bulk metallic glass was investigated in a 0.6 M NaCl electrolyte while being observed using optical microscopy (OM). In situ ...anodic-polarization experiments revealed a tendency towards a diffusion-controlled mechanism other than passivity. In situ OM images illustrated pits initiated at the corrosion potential (that is, open-circuit conditions). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was utilized to examine the region where the corrosion pits initiated. SEM images showed that the area of pit initiation was surrounded by an oxide that formed on the surface due to the exposure to the NaCl electrolyte.
