As many devices for human utility aim for fast and convenient communication with users, superb electronic devices are demonstrated to serve as hardware for human–machine interfaces in wearable forms. ...Wearable devices for daily healthcare and self‐diagnosis offer more human‐like properties unconstrained by deformation. In this sense, stretchable ionics based on flexible and stretchable hydrogels are on the rise as another means to develop wearable devices for bioapplications for two main reasons: i) ionic currents and choosing the same signal carriers for biological areas, and ii) the adoption of hydrogel ionic conductors, which are intrinsically stretchable materials with biocompatibility. Here, the current status of stretchable ionics and future applications are introduced, whose positive effects can be magnified by stretchable ionics.
Stretchable ionics are becoming central to wearable devices, adopting polymer‐based materials including hydrogels as stretchable ionic conductors. Stretchable and transparent touch panels, loudspeakers, and generators, as well as stretchable electroluminescent actuators are developed. In bridging electronics with biological studies, further progress in the development stretchable ionics for human–machine interfaces is anticipated.

Because human-computer interactions are increasingly important, touch panels may require stretchability and biocompatibility in order to allow integration with the human body. However, most touch ...panels have been developed based on stiff and brittle electrodes. We demonstrate an ionic touch panel based on a polyacrylamide hydrogel containing lithium chloride salts. The panel is soft and stretchable, so it can sustain a large deformation. The panel can freely transmit light information because the hydrogel is transparent, with 98% transmittance for visible light. A surface-capacitive touch system was adopted to sense a touched position. The panel can be operated under more than 1000% areal strain without sacrificing its functionalities. Epidermal touch panel use on skin was demonstrated by writing words, playing a piano, and playing games.
Social media has become an ideal platform for the propagation of rumors, fake news, and misinformation. Rumors on social media not only mislead online users but also affect the real world immensely. ...Thus, detecting the rumors and preventing their spread became an essential task. Some of the recent deep learning-based rumor detection methods, such as Bi-Directional Graph Convolutional Networks (Bi-GCN), represent rumor using the completed stage of the rumor diffusion and try to learn the structural information from it. However, these methods are limited to represent rumor propagation as a static graph, which isn't optimal for capturing the dynamic information of the rumors. In this study, we propose novel graph convolutional networks with attention mechanisms, named Dynamic GCN, for rumor detection. We first represent rumor posts with their responsive posts as dynamic graphs. The temporal information is used to generate a sequence of graph snapshots. The representation learning on graph snapshots with attention mechanism captures both structural and temporal information of rumor spreads. The conducted experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of Dynamic GCN over the state-of-the-art methods in the rumor detection task.

Phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) converter is a widely used topology for high-efficiency and high-power applications, thanks to low voltage/current stress of all components and zero-voltage-switching ...operation of primary mosfet s. The critical drawback of the PSFB converter is hard-switching characteristics of primary mosfet s at a very light load, which causes severe thermal explosion and extremely high input power consumption, especially with the latest super-junction mosfet . To minimize the switching loss of the PSFB converter at a very light load, a new optimal dead-time control scheme with burst-mode operation is proposed in this paper and its validity is verified experimentally with the implemented 2.2-kW server power supply unit.
The issue of human nature or
xing
性 was a major philosophical topic of the mid- and late-Warring States period of ancient China. It was famously discussed, for example, in the
Mencius
. Zhuangzi 莊子 ...lived around the same time as Mencius and one might expect that he, too, would have discussed it. Surprisingly, the term
xing
is absent from the Inner Chapters of the
Zhuangzi
. There have been different responses to this, namely, that Zhuangzi: used different terms equivalent to
xing
; believed that human nature is bad (despite not mentioning
xing
); was deliberately silent on
xing
as an oblique way of criticizing others such as Mencius. I review these claims and provide an analysis of how
xing
was mainly conceptualized during the Warring States period in essentialist terms. I shall read Zhuangzi’s philosophy as transcending this conceptual framework. Instead of a theory of human nature, Zhuangzi provides stories and descriptions of the different facets of human behavior and their psychological and other complexities. These often have an epistemic focus that stand independently of any theory of human nature.
An LLC resonant converter is a very attractive topology for high efficiency and high power density applications, thanks to zero-voltage switching of primary switches and zero-current switching of ...secondary rectifiers as well as low-voltage stress of the overall components. Its critical drawback is the unintended increase of output voltage beyond the regulation limit at very light load, in spite of much higher switching frequency for low input-to-output voltage gain. To suppress output voltage within the regulation range at very light load, the external capacitor attached across drain-source of primary switches is investigated and the optimal capacitance is designed in this article. Its validity is verified experimentally with the implemented 240-W prototype for flat-panel display application.
Acute inflammatory lesions of the placenta consist of diffuse infiltration of neutrophils at different sites in the organ. These lesions include acute chorioamnionitis, funisitis, and chorionic ...vasculitis and represent a host response (maternal or fetal) to a chemotactic gradient in the amniotic cavity. While acute chorioamnionitis is evidence of a maternal host response, funisitis and chorionic vasculitis represent fetal inflammatory responses. Intraamniotic infection generally has been considered to be the cause of acute chorioamnionitis and funisitis; however, recent evidence indicates that “sterile” intraamniotic inflammation, which occurs in the absence of demonstrable microorganisms induced by “danger signals,” is frequently associated with these lesions. In the context of intraamniotic infection, chemokines (such as interleukin-8 and granulocyte chemotactic protein) establish a gradient that favors the migration of neutrophils from the maternal or fetal circulation into the chorioamniotic membranes or umbilical cord, respectively. Danger signals that are released during the course of cellular stress or cell death can also induce the release of neutrophil chemokines. The prevalence of chorioamnionitis is a function of gestational age at birth, and present in 3–5% of term placentas and in 94% of pacentas delivered at 21-24 weeks of gestation. The frequency is higher in patients with spontaneous labor, preterm labor, clinical chorioamnionitis (preterm or term), or ruptured membranes. Funisitis and chorionic vasculitis are the hallmarks of the fetal inflammatory response syndrome, a condition characterized by an elevation in the fetal plasma concentration of interleukin-6, and associated with the impending onset of preterm labor, a higher rate of neonatal morbidity (after adjustment for gestational age), and multiorgan fetal involvement. This syndrome is the counterpart of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome in adults: a risk factor for short- and long-term complications (ie, sterile inflammation in fetuses, neonatal sepsis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, periventricular leukomalacia, and cerebral palsy). This article reviews the definition, pathogenesis, grading and staging, and clinical significance of the most common lesions in placental disease. Illustrations of the lesions and diagrams of the mechanisms of disease are provided.

The patients were categorized into a group with severe disease (severe group) or a group . . .
Background:The Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR)-National Institutes of Health (NIH) registry has the aim of evaluating the clinical characteristics, management, and long-term ...outcomes of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Korea. Methods and Results:Patients hospitalized for AMI in 20 tertiary university hospitals in Korea have been enrolled since November 2011. The study is expected to complete the scheduled enrollment of approximately 13,000 patients in October 2015, and follow-up duration is up to 5 years for each patient. As of October 2015, an interim analysis of 13,623 subjects was performed to understand the baseline clinical profiles of the study population. The mean age was 64.1 years; 73.5% were male; and 48.2% were diagnosed with ST-segment elevation AMI. Hypertension is a leading cause of AMI in Korea (51.2%), followed by smoking (38.5%) and diabetes mellitus (28.6%). Percutaneous coronary intervention was performed in 87.4% and its success rate was very high (99.4%). In-hospital, 1-year, and 2-year mortality rates were 3.9%, 4.3%, and 8.6%, respectively. The rates of major adverse cardiac events at 1 and 2 years were 9.6% and 18.8%, respectively. Conclusions:This analysis demonstrated the clinical characteristics of Korean AMI patients in comparison with those of other countries. It is necessary to develop guidelines for Asian populations to further improve their prognosis. (Circ J 2016; 80: 1427–1436)
Chronic inflammatory lesions of the placenta are characterized by the infiltration of the organ by lymphocytes, plasma cells, and/or macrophages and may result from infections (viral, bacterial, ...parasitic) or be of immune origin (maternal anti-fetal rejection). The 3 major lesions are villitis (when the inflammatory process affects the villous tree), chronic chorioamnionitis (which affects the chorioamniotic membranes), and chronic deciduitis (which involves the decidua basalis). Maternal cellular infiltration is a common feature of the lesions. Villitis of unknown etiology (VUE) is a destructive villous inflammatory lesion that is characterized by the infiltration of maternal T cells (CD8+ cytotoxic T cells) into chorionic villi. Migration of maternal T cells into the villi is driven by the production of T-cell chemokines in the affected villi. Activation of macrophages in the villi has been implicated in the destruction of the villous architecture. VUE has been reported in association with preterm and term fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia, fetal death, and preterm labor. Infants whose placentas have VUE are at risk for death and abnormal neurodevelopmental outcome at the age of 2 years. Chronic chorioamnionitis is the most common lesion in late spontaneous preterm birth and is characterized by the infiltration of maternal CD8+ T cells into the chorioamniotic membranes. These cytotoxic T cells can induce trophoblast apoptosis and damage the fetal membranes. The lesion frequently is accompanied by VUE. Chronic deciduitis consists of the presence of lymphocytes or plasma cells in the basal plate of the placenta. This lesion is more common in pregnancies that result from egg donation and has been reported in a subset of patients with premature labor. Chronic placental inflammatory lesions can be due to maternal anti-fetal rejection, a process associated with the development of a novel form of fetal systemic inflammatory response. The syndrome is characterized by an elevation of the fetal plasma T-cell chemokine. The evidence that maternal anti-fetal rejection underlies the pathogenesis of many chronic inflammatory lesions of the placenta is reviewed. This article includes figures and histologic examples of all chronic inflammatory lesions of the placenta.
