Considering the high dimensions of video sequences, it is often challenging to acquire a sufficient dataset to train the tracking models. From this perspective, we propose to revisit the idea of ...hand‐crafted feature learning to avoid such a requirement from a dataset. The proposed tracking approach is composed of two phases, detection and tracking, according to how severely the appearance of a target changes. The detection phase addresses severe and rapid variations by learning a new appearance model that classifies the pixels into foreground (or target) and background. We further combine the raw pixel features of the color intensity and spatial location with convolutional feature activations for robust target representation. The tracking phase tracks a target by searching for frame regions where the best pixel‐level agreement to the model learned from the detection phase is achieved. Our two‐phase approach results in efficient and accurate tracking, outperforming recent methods in various challenging cases of target appearance changes.
Psychosocial stress is recognized as a potential modulator of eating behavior. Psychosocial stress also constitutes an independent risk factor for the development of non-communicable diseases. This ...study examined the gender-stratified associations between perceived stress, eating behavior, and abdominal obesity in 4,411 adults aged 40–69 years during a 10-year follow-up of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES). Psychosocial stress was evaluated using the Psychosocial Wellbeing Index Short Form (PWI-SF), and eating behavior was analyzed with a focus on the dietary variety score (DVS). The Cox's proportional hazard model was used to examine the risk of abdominal obesity according to stress levels. Higher stress levels were associated with lower DVS in women. Lower DVS scores were positively associated with the consumption of grains and refined grains but was negatively associated with the consumption of fruits. The DVS was not significantly associated with stress levels among men. Prospectively, the highest tertile of grains and refined grains consumption showed an increased risk of abdominal obesity compared to the lowest tertile in women (HR: 1.36, 95% CI: 1.04–1.78,

Hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) operating at high pressures pose a higher risk of leakage than conventional gas stations. Therefore, in this study, a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) was ...conducted using DNV-GL SAFETI v.8.9. The impact of the shutoff valve was quantitatively assessed, and step-by-step mitigation was applied to propose the minimum installation requirements for the valve necessary to achieve broadly acceptable risk levels. The QRA includes sequence analysis (CA), individual risk (IR), and societal risk (SR), with accident scenarios consisting of catastrophic ruptures and three leak scenarios. The research results indicate that the application of a dual shutoff valve system resulted in an IR of 7.48 × 10−5, effectively controlling the risk below the as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) criteria of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The SR was analyzed based on the ALARP criteria in the Netherlands, and the application of the dual shutoff valve system effectively controlled the risk below the ALARP criteria. Consequently, this study suggests that applying a dual shutoff valve system with a mitigation value exceeding 1.21 × 10−2 can successfully mitigate the risk of urban hydrogen refueling stations to broadly acceptable levels.
The immune-enhancing activity of the combination of Platycodon grandiflorum and Salvia plebeian extracts (PGSP) was evaluated through macrophage activation using RAW264.7 cells. PGSP (250-1000 μg/mL) ...showed a higher release of NO in a dose-dependent manner. The results showed that PGSP could significantly stimulate the production of PGE2, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 in RAW264.7 cells and promote iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-4, and IL-6 mRNA expression. Western blot analysis demonstrated that the protein expression of iNOS and COX-2 and the phosphorylation of ERK, JNK, p38, and NF-κB p65 were greatly increased in PGSP-treated cells. PGSP also promoted the phagocytic activity of RAW264.7 cells. All these results indicated that PGSP might activate macrophages through MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways. Taken together, PGSP may be considered to have immune-enhancing activity and might be used as a potential immune-enhancing agent.

Dietary patterns may be a crucial modifiable factor in colorectal cancer (CRC) risk. This study aimed to examine the associations of dietary patterns derived from two methods with CRC risk in Korea. ...In a study of 1420 CRC patients and 2840 control participants, we obtained dietary patterns by principal component analysis (PCA) and reduced rank regression (RRR) using 33 predefined food groups. The associations between dietary patterns and CRC risk were assessed using unconditional logistic regression models to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We identified two similar dietary patterns, derived from PCA 1 (prudent) and RRR (healthy), characterized by higher consumption of green/yellow vegetables, light-colored vegetables, fruits, eggs, and milk in both men and women. In women, higher prudent and healthy pattern scores were significantly associated with a lower risk of CRC (prudent, OR
= 0.59, 95% CI 0.40-0.86, P for trend = 0.005; healthy, OR

Moreover, the use of both PCA and RRR methods may be advantageous to explore the associations between dietary patterns and risk of CRC.
The bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) is important for estimating the physical properties of a surface in remote sensing. In the laboratory, the BRDF can be estimated quickly and ...accurately using a goniometer, but it is very difficult to operate in the field. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether estimating the BRDF with reasonable accuracy using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a multispectral camera is possible in the field. Hemispherical reflectance was created from images taken using an UAV multispectral camera. The ground targets were four calibrated reference tarps (CRTs) of different reflectance, and the UAV was operated five times. Down-welling irradiance for reflectance calculation was measured in two ways: a sunlight sensor was mounted on a UAV, and a spectroradiometer with a remote cosine receptor (RCR) was installed on the ground. The BRDF was assessed through the anisotropy factor (ANIF) of the CRT reflectance derived from the collected data. As a result, the irradiance data for the reflectance calculation were more effective from the spectroradiometer with RCR on the ground than from the sunlight sensor mounted on an UAV. Furthermore, the high reflectance CRTs, ANIF, and BRDF had similar results. Therefore, when analyzing the BRDF, the effectiveness can be guaranteed when the reflectance of the target is over 21~46%, because a low reflectance tendency differs due to the adjacency effect. In addition, weather affects irradiance, so it is more effective to conduct fieldwork in clear weather.
This case study focused on integrating Google Translate (GT) and post-editing skills into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing instruction for Korean college students. Over a four-day writing ...class, twelve students completed four drafts, and the use of GT output, along with paraphrasing and error correction skills, was examined in detail. Surveys and interviews were utilized to gather student feedback. The findings revealed that initially, the students heavily relied on the output of GT.
However, as they learned post-editing skills, they began independently changing expressions and correcting errors. In Draft 3, 54 out of 58 expressions were paraphrased, and 67 out of 80 errors were corrected based on the GT output. Yet, with the employment of post-editing skills in Draft 4, there was a noticeable decrease in reliance on the GT output, with students making more efforts to paraphrase and correct errors independently. They also expressed high satisfaction with the effectiveness of paraphrasing for writing. Nevertheless, they still faced challenges in grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure, highlighting the need for teacher involvement in writing classrooms. We retrospectively analyzed National Health Insurance claims data (January 2002-December 2018) to determine the asthma prevalence and risk factors among preterm infants born in Korea. Patients with ...asthma were defined as those with a history of asthma medication prescriptions at least twice per year with International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition codes J45 and J46. We enrolled 99,139 preterm infants. The prevalence of asthma among preterm and term infants was 32.7% and 26.9%, 21.2% and 19.1%, 6.7% and 5.9%, 2.0%, and 1.6%, and 2.4% and 1.6% at 2, 5, 10, 15, and 16 years of age, respectively. The relative risk (RR) of asthma in preterm infants was 1.1-fold that in female preterm infants. The RR of asthma medication prescriptions for infants with extreme prematurity was 1.92-fold that of infants with moderate/late pre-term status. Among preterm with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) without comorbidities, the RRs for the number of asthma medication prescriptions were 1.34 and 1.06, respectively. This study revealed a higher prevalence of asthma among preterm infants than that in term infants. Male sex, extreme prematurity, BPD, and RDS were identified as risk factors for asthma medication prescriptions in preterm infants.

The purpose of this study was to compare the precision of three-dimensional (3D) images acquired using iTero® (Align Technology Inc., San Jose, CA, USA) and Trios® (3Shape Dental Systems, Copenhagen, ...Denmark) digital intraoral scanners, and to evaluate the effects of the severity of tooth irregularities and scanning sequence on precision.
Dental arch models were fabricated with differing degrees of tooth irregularity and divided into 2 groups based on scanning sequence. To assess their precision, images were superimposed and an optimized superimposition algorithm was employed to measure any 3D deviation. The t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA were performed (p < 0.05) for statistical analysis.
The iTero® and Trios® systems showed no statistically significant difference in precision among models with differing degrees of tooth irregularity. However, there were statistically significant differences in the precision of the 2 scanners when the starting points of scanning were different. The iTero® scanner (mean deviation, 29.84 ± 12.08 µm) proved to be less precise than the Trios® scanner (22.17 ± 4.47 µm).
The precision of 3D images differed according to the degree of tooth irregularity, scanning sequence, and scanner type. However, from a clinical standpoint, both scanners were highly accurate regardless of the degree of tooth irregularity.
