With the increasing advance of computer and information technologies, numerous research papers have been published online as well as offline, and as new research fields have been continuingly ...created, users have a lot of trouble in finding and categorizing their interesting research papers. In order to overcome the limitations, this paper proposes a research paper classification system that can cluster research papers into the meaningful class in which papers are very likely to have similar subjects. The proposed system extracts representative keywords from the abstracts of each paper and topics by Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) scheme. Then, the K-means clustering algorithm is applied to classify the whole papers into research papers with similar subjects, based on the Term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) values of each paper.
Summary Background The CLASSIC trial was done to compare adjuvant capecitabine plus oxaliplatin versus observation after D2 gastrectomy for patients with stage II or III gastric cancer. The planned ...interim analysis of CLASSIC (median follow-up 34 months) showed that adjuvant capecitabine plus oxaliplatin significantly improved disease-free survival, the primary endpoint, compared with observation after D2 gastrectomy. We report the 5-year follow-up data from the trial. Methods CLASSIC was a phase 3, randomised, open-label study done at 35 cancer centres, medical centres, and hospitals in China, South Korea, and Taiwan. Patients with stage II–IIIB gastric cancer who underwent curative D2 gastrectomy were randomly assigned (1:1) after surgery to receive adjuvant chemotherapy with capecitabine and oxaliplatin (eight 3-week cycles of oral capecitabine 1000 mg/m2 twice daily on days 1–14 plus intravenous oxaliplatin 130 mg/m2 on day 1) for 6 months or observation alone. Randomisation was stratified by country and disease stage with a permuted block (size four) design. Neither patients nor investigators were masked to treatment assignment. The primary outcome was 3-year disease-free survival in the intention-to-treat population. This analysis presents the final preplanned assessment of outcomes after 5 years. The study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT00411229. Findings We enrolled 1035 patients: 520 were randomly assigned to adjuvant capecitabine and oxaliplatin, and 515 to observation. Median follow-up for this analysis in the intention-to-treat population was 62·4 months (IQR 54–70). 139 (27%) patients had disease-free survival events in the adjuvant capecitabine and oxaliplatin group versus 203 (39%) patients in the observation group (stratified hazard ratio HR 0·58, 95% CI 0·47–0·72; p<0·0001). Estimated 5-year disease-free survival was 68% (95% CI 63–73) in the adjuvant capecitabine and oxaliplatin group versus 53% (47–58) in the observation alone group. By the clinical cutoff date, 103 patients (20%) had died in the adjuvant capecitabine and oxaliplatin group versus 141 patients (27%) in the observation group (stratified HR 0·66, 95% CI 0·51–0·85; p=0·0015). Estimated 5-year overall survival was 78% (95% CI 74–82) in the adjuvant capecitabine and oxaliplatin group versus 69% (64–73) in the observation group. Adverse event data were not collected after the primary analysis. Interpretation Adjuvant treatment with capecitabine plus oxaliplatin after D2 gastrectomy should be considered for patients with operable stage II or III gastric cancer. Thin‐film solar cells are made by vapor deposition of Earth‐abundant materials: tin, zinc, oxygen and sulfur. These solar cells had previously achieved an efficiency of about 2%, less than 1/10 of ...their theoretical potential. Loss mechanisms are systematically investigated and mitigated in solar cells based on p‐type tin monosulfide, SnS, absorber layers combined with n‐type zinc oxysulfide, Zn(O,S) layers that selectively transmit electrons, but block holes. Recombination at grain boundaries is reduced by annealing the SnS films in H2S to form larger grains with fewer grain boundaries. Recombination near the p‐SnS/n‐Zn(O,S) junction is reduced by inserting a few monolayers of SnO2 between these layers. Recombination at the junction is also reduced by adjusting the conduction band offset by tuning the composition of the Zn(O,S), and by reducing its free electron concentration with nitrogen doping. The resulting cells have an efficiency over 4.4%, which is more than twice as large as the highest efficiency obtained previously by solar cells using SnS absorber layers.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a common hepatic disorder ranging from simple steatosis through steatohepatitis to fibrosis and cirrhosis, is an emerging health concern. NAFLD is a ...pathologic condition characterized by the buildup of extra fat in liver cells that is not caused by alcohol consumption. Excess hepatic fat accumulation results from increased delivery of triglycerides (TG) to the liver or conversion of surplus carbohydrates to TG. Importantly, a subgroup of NAFLD results in hepatocellular injury and inflammation, which is referred to as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and may progress to irreversible cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). NAFLD shares, in part, the common pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome including obesity, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress response, and the release of inflammatory cytokines. Epigenetics, an inheritable phenomenon that affects gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, provides a new perspective on the pathogenesis of NAFLD. Reversible epigenetic changes take place at the transcriptional level and provide a phenotypic connection between the host and environment. An accumulating body of evidence suggests the importance of epigenetic roles in NAFLD, which in turn can be identified as potential therapeutic targets and non-invasive biomarkers of NAFLD. It is anticipated that the epigenetic modifiers in NAFLD may provide novel molecular indicators that can determine not only the initial risk but also the disease progression and prognosis. In the present review, we update the roles of epigenetics as pathologic mechanisms, therapeutic targets and biomarkers in NAFLD.
Hydronephrosis, characterized by dilation of the renal pelvis and calyces due to urine flow obstruction, poses a significant clinical challenge. Although often asymptomatic and capable of spontaneous ...resolution, surgical intervention is necessary for specific scenarios such as febrile urinary tract infections, deteriorating hydronephrosis, or declining renal function. The efficacy of continuous antibiotic prophylaxis in preventing urinary tract infections remains controversial. Yet, it may benefit high-risk patients, emphasizing the importance of individualized patient selection, as surgical treatment methods for patients with hydronephrosis have become less invasive than in previous decades. However, long-term follow-up outcomes are lacking, necessitating further clarification. This review presents an overview of the etiology, natural progression, and modern management of hydronephrosis, encompassing advancements in minimally invasive procedures.
We study a new rate splitting (RS)-based hybrid beamforming scheme for multi-user downlink cellular networks in which the base station having a hybrid beamforming structure serves multiple users each ...having conventional multiple antennas. To maximize the potential of RS, we propose a general RS-enabled hybrid beamforming framework that can be applied to both fully-connected and sub-array hybrid beamforming structures, allowing for the assignment of a flexible number of streams for each user. Our proposed RS method divides each stream into an arbitrary number of common and private sub-streams, where private sub-streams are only recoverable by a dedicated user, whereas common streams can be recovered by all users. We propose a low-complexity analog and digital beamforming design suitable for the proposed RS and optimize the number of allocated common and private sub-streams for all users through a low-complexity genetic algorithm to maximize the achievable sum rate or minimum rate over multiple users. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves a near-optimal sum rate close to that of dirty paper coding with low computational complexity and outperforms the benchmark approaches without considering RS.
Recent evidence suggests that cellular perturbations play an important role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, we analyzed the association between the levels of urinary ...metabolites and arterial stiffness. Our cross-sectional study included 330 Korean men and women. The brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity was measured as a marker of arterial stiffness. Urinary metabolites were evaluated using a high-performance liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity was found to be positively correlated with L-lactate, citrate, isocitrate, succinate, malate, hydroxymethylglutarate, α-ketoisovalerate, α-keto-β-methylvalerate, methylmalonate, and formiminoglutamate among men. Whereas, among women, the brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity was positively correlated with cis-aconitate, isocitrate, hydroxymethylglutarate, and formiminoglutamate. In the multivariable regression models adjusted for conventional cardiovascular risk factors, three metabolite concentrations (urine isocitrate, hydroxymethylglutarate, and formiminoglutamate) were independently and positively associated with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity. Increased urine isocitrate, hydroxymethylglutarate, and formiminoglutamate concentrations were associated with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and independent of conventional cardiovascular risk factors. Our findings suggest that metabolic disturbances in cells may be related to arterial stiffness.
We consider in-band full-duplex (FD) vehicular access networks in which a FD vehicular access point (AP) with high mobility simultaneously supports half-duplex (HD) downlink and uplink users with low ...mobility. We assume no self-interference due to FD operation at the AP and no channel state information known at the transmit side (no channel state information at the transmitter side). We completely characterize the sum degrees of freedom (DoF) by proposing an optimal blind interference alignment scheme, which exploits the difference of channel's temporal correlations between the AP and users, and establishing the matching upper bound on the sum DoF. Performance evaluation shows that the proposed scheme improves the sum rate at the finite signal-to-noise ratio regime compared to the conventional HD system.
The phenotype of the 5α-reductase type 2 deficiency (5αRD2) by the
gene mutation varies, and although there have been many attempts, the genotype-phenotype correlation still has not yet been ...adequately evaluated. Recently, the crystal structure of the 5α-reductase type 2 isozyme (SRD5A2) has been determined. Therefore, the present study retrospectively evaluated the genotype-phenotype correlation from a structural perspective in 19 Korean patients with 5αRD2. Additionally, variants were classified according to structural categories, and phenotypic severity was compared with previously published data. The p.R227Q variant, which belongs to the NADPH-binding residue mutation category, exhibited a more masculine phenotype (higher external masculinization score) than other variants. Furthermore, compound heterozygous mutations with p.R227Q mitigated phenotypic severity. Similarly, other mutations in this category showed mild to moderate phenotypes. Conversely, the variants categorized as structure-destabilizing and small to bulky residue mutations showed moderate to severe phenotypes, and those categorized as catalytic site and helix-breaking mutations exhibited severe phenotypes. Therefore, the SRD5A2 structural approach suggested that a genotype-phenotype correlation does exist in 5αRD2. Furthermore, the categorization of
gene variants according to the SRD5A2 structure facilitates the prediction of the severity of 5αRD2 and the management and genetic counseling of patients affected by it.
Experimental studies demonstrated that maternal exposure to certain environmental and dietary factors during early embryonic development can influence the phenotype of offspring as well as the risk ...of disease development at the later life. DNA methylation, an epigenetic phenomenon, has been suggested as a mechanism by which maternal nutrients affect the phenotype of their offspring in both honeybee and agouti mouse models. Phenotypic changes through DNA methylation can be linked to folate metabolism by the knowledge that folate, a coenzyme of one-carbon metabolism, is directly involved in methyl group transfer for DNA methylation. During the fetal period, organ-specific DNA methylation patterns are established through epigenetic reprogramming. However, established DNA methylation patterns are not immutable and can be modified during our lifetime by the environment. Aberrant changes in DNA methylation with diet may lead to the development of age-associated diseases including cancer. It is also known that the aging process by itself is accompanied by alterations in DNA methylation. Diminished activity of DNA methyltransferases (Dnmts) can be a potential mechanism for the decreased genomic DNA methylation during aging, along with reduced folate intake and altered folate metabolism. Progressive hypermethylation in promoter regions of certain genes is observed throughout aging, and repression of tumor suppressors induced by this epigenetic mechanism appears to be associated with cancer development. In this review, we address the effect of folate on early development and aging through an epigenetic mechanism, DNA methylation.
