Despite the importance that international educators place on the health and safety of students, not enough attention is given to the wellness of professionals during crises. This narrative study ...explored how the response to COVID-19 affected the wellness of six international educators. We found that the changes to professional social relationships, new challenges faced throughout a long-term pandemic, and uncertainty about the future affected the wellness of the participants in myriad ways.

The CMS Data Analysis School is an official event organized by the CMS Collaboration to teach students and post-docs how to perform a physics analysis. The school is coordinated by the CMS schools ...committee and was first implemented at the LHC Physics Center at Fermilab in 2010. As part of the training, there are a number of "short" exercises on physics object reconstruction and identification, Monte Carlo simulation, and statistical analysis, which are followed by "long" exercises based on physics analyses. Some of the long exercises go beyond the current state of the art of the corresponding CMS analyses. This paper describes the goals of the school, the preparations for a school, the structure of the training, and student satisfaction with the experience as measured by surveys.
This paper deals with battery monitoring system for the airplane VUT 051 RAY and description of the whole airplane battery. The whole battery for airplane consists of 3060 Li-ion cells Panasonic ...NCR18650A. These cells are separately installed into 30 battery packs, which are connected in series. Nominal parameters of the whole battery are 324 V, 102 Ah and maximal current 204 A. In this article, there are shown some detail of installation of the battery in the airplane and some tests.

To impart hands-on training in physics analysis, CMS experiment initiated the concept of CMS Data Analysis School (CMSDAS). It was born over three years ago at the LPC (LHC Physics Centre), Fermilab ...and is based on earlier workshops held at the LPC and CLEO Experiment. As CMS transitioned from construction to the data taking mode, the nature of earlier training also evolved to include more of analysis tools, software tutorials and physics analysis. This effort epitomized as CMSDAS has proven to be a key for the new and young physicists to jump start and contribute to the physics goals of CMS by looking for new physics with the collision data. With over 400 physicists trained in six CMSDAS around the globe, CMS is trying to engage the collaboration in its discovery potential and maximize physics output. As a bigger goal, CMS is striving to nurture and increase engagement of the myriad talents, in the development of physics, service, upgrade, education of those new to CMS and the career development of younger members. An extension of the concept to the dedicated software and hardware schools is also planned, keeping in mind the ensuing upgrade phase.
We report observation of the electroweak production of single top quarks in ppover collisions at sqrts=1.96 TeV based on 2.3 fb(-1) of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ...Collider. Using events containing an isolated electron or muon and missing transverse energy, together with jets originating from the fragmentation of b quarks, we measure a cross section of sigma(ppover --> tb + X, tqb + X) = 3.94 + or - 0.88 pb. The probability to measure a cross section at this value or higher in the absence of signal is 2.5 x 10(-7), corresponding to a 5.0 standard deviation significance for the observation.
Importance of the condition monitoring and predictive maintenance in motion systems is growing up as motion systems quantum and their complexity (number of axes, performance parameters) increases ...with increasing the automation of huge range of human activities and manufacturing processes. Probability of failures increases with the system complexity. Many faults and indication of their propagation in the electric drives would require additional sensors or hardware, higher bandwidth and sampling frequencies of feedback sensors, high computing power etc. for development of sophisticated methods to detect specific faults with good sensitivity, robustness and reliability under any operating condition. This paper presents an approach to the condition monitoring and prognosis applicable into the existing systems. These methods use the information available in the traditional electric drives - especially the information from the individual sensors in a voltage source inverter (VSI) and/or an electric motor. Condition indicators for these methods are based on application specific operating states or actions, which generates typical patterns in the signals. The condition monitoring is based on observing the deviations of these patterns between the healthy system and the system with fault propagating. The implementation strategy is described in the paper and some demonstration examples are shown as well.
We report the observation of the X(3872) in the J/psipi(+)pi(-) channel, with J/psi decaying to mu(+)mu(-), in p (p) over bar collisions at roots=1.96 TeV. Using approximately 230 pb(-1) of data ...collected with the Run II D0 detector, we observe 522+/-100 X(3872) candidates. The mass difference between the X(3872) state and the J/psi is measured to be 774.9+/-3.1(stat)+/-3.0(syst) MeV/c(2). We have investigated the production and decay characteristics of the X(3872) and find them to be similar to those of the psi(2S) state.
The D0 Collaboration presents first evidence for the production of single top quarks at the Fermilab Tevatron ppover collider. Using a 0.9 fb(-1) dataset, we apply a multivariate analysis to ...separate signal from background and measure sigma(ppover -->tb+X,tqb+X)=4.9+/-1.4 pb. The probability to measure a cross section at this value or higher in the absence of a signal is 0.035%, corresponding to a 3.4 standard deviation significance. We use the cross section measurement to directly determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element that describes the Wtb coupling and find 0.68<|V(tb)|</=1 at 95% C.L. within the standard model.
The standard model of particle physics contains parameters-such as particle masses-whose origins are still unknown and which cannot be predicted, but whose values are constrained through their ...interactions. In particular, the masses of the top quark (Mt) and W boson (MW) constrain the mass of the long-hypothesized, but thus far not observed, Higgs boson. A precise measurement of Mt can therefore indicate where to look for the Higgs, and indeed whether the hypothesis of a standard model Higgs is consistent with experimental data. As top quarks are produced in pairs and decay in only about 10-24 s into various final states, reconstructing their masses from their decay products is very challenging. Here we report a technique that extracts more information from each top-quark event and yields a greatly improved precision (of ± 5.3 GeV/c2) when compared to previous measurements. When our new result is combined with our published measurement in a complementary decay mode and with the only other measurements available, the new world average for Mt becomes 178.0 ± 4.3 GeV/c2. As a result, the most likely Higgs mass increases from the experimentally excluded value of 96 to 117 GeV/c2, which is beyond current experimental sensitivity. The upper limit on the Higgs mass at the 95% confidence level is raised from 219 to 251 GeV/c2.

We present the first model-independent measurement of the helicity of W bosons produced in top quark decays, based on a 1 fb(-1) sample of candidate tt events in the dilepton and lepton plus jets ...channels collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp Collider. We reconstruct the angle theta(*) between the momenta of the down-type fermion and the top quark in the W boson rest frame for each top quark decay. A fit of the resulting costheta(*) distribution finds that the fraction of longitudinal W bosons f(0)=0.425+/-0.166(stat)+/-0.102(syst) and the fraction of right-handed W bosons f(+)=0.119+/-0.090(stat)+/-0.053(syst), which is consistent at the 30% C.L. with the standard model.
