In an increasingly competitive tourist market, wine and enogastronomy are becoming key elements in the development of tourist products in regions that cultivate grapevines, in Slovenia and ...internationally. It has been claimed that no kind of tourism can develop in regions without wine; however, from today’s perspective, this claim seems an exaggeration. Nevertheless, enogastronomy is an integral part of many contemporary tourist products. As such, it combines tradition, history and heritage and also improves the recognisability of a given destination on which modern wine tourism products rest. On a global scale, wine tourism is growing, and the forecast for the future is likewise promising.
The essence of a wine tourism product is to connect food and wine, i.e. enogastronomic or culinary experiences, and to follow new trends. The trend is to consolidate this segment of tourism services, in particular through leisure activities and relaxation at the destination of choice. Food and wine thus become part of the cultural experience of the visited destination and equal the experience of visiting a museum or a concert or can be an equal component of such a package.

Popularisation of travels aiming to prevent illnesses of a modern man has resulted in an exceptionally dynamic development of wellness tourism in the world. As one of the fastest growing segments of ...tourism industry, wellness tourism reaches an annual growth rate that is almost 50% higher than the expected growth rate of the overall global tourism economy. As a service industry in which the human factor plays the most important role, the wellness industry provides a large number of new jobs each year. However, new working positions should be filled by adequately trained and motivated workers. It is therefore necessary to innovate the existing education systems, both in the field of formal and informal education. Finding out how wellness industry workers are trained in Serbia and Slovenia and what kind of changes should be made in that field in order for both of these countries to be competitive on a global market were the main goals of the study conducted as a part of the cross-border cooperation between the Faculty of Sport and Tourism from Novi Sad and Faculty of Tourism in Brežice. The results of the study indicate that the practice of wellness tourism is far more open for innovations in comparison with universities. The study has also shown that, in order to secure quality education of future professionals, it is necessary to establish a closer cooperation between the universities and the leaders in spa and wellness industry.
For years, sustainable tourism has commanded the attention of academics and practitioners given its achievement through participatory planning. However, much research in the area has neglected to ...consider all voices of those (i.e., children) affected by tourism. This study, employing a post-test only experimental design, addresses this gap by including the voices of 498 children from six diverse European destinations concerning perceptions of tourism. Results show that children are willing to express their opinions given the opportunity. Moreover, their attitude towards tourists is negative, while they perceive locals to hold a subordinate position to tourists. In general, this study offers insight into children's attitudes to tourism from the host perspective, demonstrating that there is a unique insider's perspective that needs further research.
One of the crucial methodologies for growing and developing a level of tourism which is sustainable and enhances the totality of local and regional environments is a multi-stakeholder approach to ...tourism development. In this paper, we present the case of the 'Heritage trails through Dolenjska and Bela krajina in SE Slovenia' in which sustainable rural development (we take this to include cultural & heritage, vinicultural & gastronomic, as well as ecological tourism) is one of the key elements of the integral mix of business economy, viz. development of the region in the SE of Slovenia. The integral approach showed from the very beginning of project activities, within the Novo Mesto chamber of commerce, its long-time implementation until the present, as one of the key products within the tourist destination of Dolenjska, Bela Krajina and Kočevsko-Ribniška. It takes an integrated approach in terms of start-up, implementation and development and is supported by and benefits from the notion of a core of multiple stakeholders.
The opportunities of participatory democratic communication in the process of innovative, sustainable and socially responsible tourism development & policy creation have never been sufficiently ...exploited due to constant changes in the area of social communication. In this study, based on theoretical and empirical research and case studies, we offer a concept of a communication model, which enables democratic participatory communication in an optimal way, namely by formation of the regional tourist destination. In paper we present the case of the Posavje and Dolenjska regions of Slovenia, in which each municipality has their own municipal tourism development strategies, but do not have a common, regional strategy that best coincides with the parameters determining optimal tourist destination management. We see this as a problem and obstacle for an efficient tourism development. We use the method of online interviews, by targeting tourism stakeholders from all three sectors in the regions of Posavje and Dolenjska, namely public, private and NGO. Based on the empirical research we offer solutions to this tourism development issue in the form of a new conceptualization of communication functions in these tourist destinations.
This paper attempts to quantify, understand and analyse the effect of the migrant flows upon tourism destinations, considering the funnel theory, as a system, focusing on the beginning (inputs), ...through (throughput) and at the end of the funnel (outputs). Empirically, the research examines three key questions: 1. Importance of tourism economically to countries in the West Balkan Migrant Corridor; 2. Intensive nature of tourism for these countries; 3. Socio-economic consequences of the migrant flows. The crisis and its effects on tourism looks at a funnel that transmits migrants from the Aegean Sea through the West Balkans to North-West Europe. Importantly, the funnel crisis points are in Greece (beginning) and in Germany (end); the intermediate problem areas (Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia) have been in the throughput of the migrants through the funnel. It must also take account of the security situation in Turkey as well as the difficulty of EU member states in assimilating migrants on the route. Based on the results of the research conducted to date, with the sectional sample data from 2014-2017, it is possible to affirm that the migration crisis in West Balkans countries and countries connected to the migrant corridor has impacted only marginally on tourism. However, This problem is socioeconomic yet deeply humanitarian; whilst unfortunate to reduce a deeply disturbing human issue, such an analysis of “people-flows through the funnel” allows an attempt to quantify, understand and analyse the effect of the migrant flows upon tourism destinations.
Designing and presenting a destination as a tourist product is a process, which is influenced by different issues. Among them are perceptions of destination and attitudes towards a destination. In ...this study we have examined how media representation of destination safety and security affects attitudes about tourism destinations. Safety and security are important questions in the field of tourism and therefore we initially present
differing aspects of this topic. This research question was addressed as an experiment among students of tourism, who are future tourism product designers. The independent variable was the projection of terrorist attack films on observed destinations. The experiment used different questionnaires – among them was a nonverbal semantic differential. The results of these questionnaires showed that the perception of different destinations is lower than before the experiment and therefore that the safety and security issues are important factors when designing a tourist product
Tourism, recognized as a fast-growing industry, present, globally as well as in Slovenia, is facing incomplete statistical monitoring. In most countries monitoring is conducted in accordance with ...established statistical monitoring criteria. Therefore, rapid changes and the scope of the industry cannot be clearly identified and effectively presented. A key to more complete statistical monitoring is the application of tourism satellite accounts (TSA), which ”is a standard statistical framework and the main tool for the economic measurement of tourism” (TSA:RMF, 2008). Due to the trend of a wider global application of such statistical monitoring to numerous countries around the world, the intention of the empirical part of this paper was to check the effectiveness of this methodology in monitoring tourism flows. The effectiveness was checked in Slovenia and in its four largest tourism markets, (e.g. Austria, Italy and Germany) in the analysis. First, we have shown that the calculated tourist value added by the method of tourist satellite accounts per national economy in these four countries is at least 2% greater than the calculated tourist value added in these four countries, measured by traditional statistical methods. In the following, due to the efficiency of this method, we have shown the impact of the last economic crisis on tourism. In general, the methodology, as well as the results, shows the effectiveness of the method, which allows academics and professionals to promote its further development.
