ABSTRACT
We present a catalog of ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in the Coma cluster. UDGs are a subset of low surface brightness (SB) galaxies with very large effective radii defined by van Dokkum et ...al. We surveyed the Subaru data archive for deep Suprime-Cam/Subaru
R
-band images, and used data covering the 1.°7 × 2.°7 region of the Coma cluster. The data are ∼1 magnitude deeper than the data of van Dokkum et al (2015a) in limiting SB. This paper explains the details of our sample selection procedure. This UDG catalog includes positions, magnitudes, effective radii, mean and central SBs, and colors (when available). Comparisons with previous galaxy catalogs in the literature are performed, and we show that the current catalog is the largest for UDGs. We also discuss that most of the UDGs are members of the Coma cluster, and the major axis of the UDGs tends to align toward the cluster center (radial alignment).
Phosphonium salts exhibit great utility in organic synthesis. However, tetraarylphosphonium salts (TAPS) have found limited use as catalysts. We demonstrate the TAPS-catalyzed carbon dioxide fixation ...at atmospheric pressure for the coupling reaction with epoxides. Five-membered cyclic carbonates were obtained, including enantio-enriched carbonates. Mechanistic studies revealed the origin of the behavior of TAPS to be the in situ formation of an active species by TAPS addition to epoxides via halohydrin intermediates.

Abstract
We present the procedure to build and validate the bright-star masks for the Hyper-Suprime-Cam Strategic Subaru Proposal (HSC-SSP) survey. To identify and mask the saturated stars in the ...full HSC-SSP footprint, we rely on the Gaia and Tycho-2 star catalogues. We first assemble a pure star catalogue down to GGaia < 18 after removing ∼1.5% of sources that appear extended in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We perform visual inspection on the early data from the S16A internal release of HSC-SSP, finding that our star catalogue is 99.2% pure down to GGaia < 18. Second, we build the mask regions in an automated way using stacked detected source measurements around bright stars binned per GGaia magnitude. Finally, we validate those masks by visual inspection and comparison with the literature of galaxy number counts and angular two-point correlation functions. This version (Arcturus) supersedes the previous version (Sirius) used in the S16A internal and DR1 public releases. We publicly release the full masks and tools to flag objects in the entire footprint of the planned HSC-SSP observations at 〈ftp://obsftp.unige.ch/pub/coupon/brightStarMasks/HSC-SSP/〉.
The development of carbon dioxide fixation under mild conditions is a central theme in organic synthesis. Despite the tremendous progress in the field of organocatalysis in the past two decades, the ...coupling reactions of epoxides with carbon dioxide that proceed at atmospheric pressure at temperatures of less than 100 °C have remained challenging. In our aspirational studies of tetraarylphosphonium salts (TAPS) catalysis, we report here the bifunctional TAPS-catalyzed synthesis of five-membered cyclic carbonates by chemical fixation using 1 atm of carbon dioxide at 60 °C. Intriguing substituent effects of TAPS were observed, in which electron-donating groups enhanced their reactivity. In addition, the mechanism was thoroughly investigated by undertaking both experimental and theoretical studies, suggesting that the electronic properties of TAPS affect carbon dioxide insertion into halohydrin intermediates. The results provided fruitful information to understand the origin of the TAPS behavior, which would contribute to the design of novel catalysts for carbon dioxide capture.

. We discovered six new EIGs in addition to five known EIGs. We also found that the H
α
tail from the blue infalling group is extended to about 330 kpc in projected distance, which is about twice longer than previously reported. Candidates of star-forming blobs in the tail are detected. The properties of the EIG parent galaxies in Abell 1367 basically resemble those in the Coma cluster. A noticeable difference is that there are significantly fewer detached EIGs in Abell 1367, while the fraction of blue member galaxies is higher. The results suggest a difference in the evolutionary stage of the clusters; Abell 1367 is at an earlier stage than the Coma cluster.

Abstract
This paper describes the detailed design of the CCD dewar and the camera system which is a part of the wide-field imager Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) on the 8.2 m Subaru Telescope. On the 1.°5 ...diameter focal plane (497 mm in physical size), 116 four-side buttable 2 k × 4 k fully depleted CCDs are tiled with 0.3 mm gaps between adjacent chips, which are cooled down to −100°C by two pulse tube coolers with a capability to exhaust 100 W heat at −100°C. The design of the dewar is basically a natural extension of Suprime-Cam, incorporating some improvements such as (1) a detailed CCD positioning strategy to avoid any collision between CCDs while maximizing the filling factor of the focal plane, (2) a spherical washers mechanism adopted for the interface points to avoid any deformation caused by the tilt of the interface surface to be transferred to the focal plane, (3) the employment of a truncated-cone-shaped window, made of synthetic silica, to save the back focal space, and (4) a passive heat transfer mechanism to exhaust efficiently the heat generated from the CCD readout electronics which are accommodated inside the dewar. Extensive simulations using a finite-element analysis (FEA) method are carried out to verify that the design of the dewar is sufficient to satisfy the assigned errors. We also perform verification tests using the actually assembled CCD dewar to supplement the FEA and demonstrate that the design is adequate to ensure an excellent image quality which is key to the HSC. The details of the camera system, including the control computer system, are described as well as the assembling process of the dewar and the process of installation on the telescope.
We present the first results of the Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam survey of the interacting galaxy system, NGC 4631 and NGC 4656. From the maps of resolved stellar populations, we identify 11 dwarf ...galaxies (including already-known dwarfs) in the outer region of NGC 4631 and the two tidal stellar streams around NGC 4631, named Stream SE and Stream NW, respectively. This paper describes the fundamental properties of these tidal streams. Based on the tip of the red giant branch method and the Bayesian statistics, we find that Stream SE (7.10 Mpc in expected a posteriori, EAP, with 90% credible intervals of 6.22, 7.29 Mpc) and Stream NW (7.91 Mpc in EAP with 90% credible intervals of 6.44, 7.97 Mpc) are located in front of and behind NGC 4631, respectively. We also calculate the metallicity distribution of stellar streams by comparing the member stars with theoretical isochrones on the color-magnitude diagram. We find that both streams have the same stellar population based on the Bayesian model selection method, suggesting that they originated from a tidal interaction between NGC 4631 and a single dwarf satellite. The expected progenitor has a positively skewed metallicity distribution function with , with 90% credible intervals of −1.46, −0.51. The stellar mass of the progenitor is estimated as , with 90% credible intervals of based on the mass-metallicity relation for Local group dwarf galaxies. This is in good agreement with the initial stellar mass of the progenitor that was presumed in the previous N-body simulation.
Abstract
We present a new observation of satellite galaxies around seven Milky Way (MW)–like galaxies located outside of the Local Group (LG) using Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam imaging data to ...statistically address the missing satellite problem. We select satellite galaxy candidates using magnitude, surface brightness, Sérsic index, axial ratio, FWHM, and surface brightness fluctuation cuts, followed by visual screening of false positives such as optical ghosts of bright stars. We identify 51 secure dwarf satellite galaxies within the virial radius of nine host galaxies, two of which are drawn from the pilot observation presented in Paper I. We find that the average luminosity function of the satellite galaxies is consistent with that of the MW satellites, although the luminosity function of each host galaxy varies significantly. We observe an indication that more massive hosts tend to have a larger number of satellites. Physical properties of the satellites such as the size–luminosity relation are also consistent with the MW satellites. However, the spatial distribution is different; we find that the satellite galaxies outside of the LG show no sign of concentration or alignment, while that of the MW satellites is more concentrated around the host and exhibits a significant alignment. As we focus on relatively massive satellites with
M
V
< −10, we do not expect that the observational incompleteness can be responsible here. This trend might represent a peculiarity of the MW satellites, and further work is needed to understand its origin.

i
band, which is ~2 mag below the main sequence turn-off point. The structural parameters of UMi are derived using red giant branch (RGB) stars and sub-giant branch (SGB) stars, and the tidal radius is suggested to be larger than those estimated by the previous studies. It is also found that the distribution of bluer RGB/SGB stars is more extended than that of redder RGB/SGB stars. The fraction of binary systems is estimated to be ~0.4 from the morphology of the main sequences.

Abstract
We describe five broad-band filters and a narrow-band one for the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) at the prime focus of the Subaru Telescope. Since the HSC is a practical successor to the ...Suprime-Cam (SC), our broad-band filter set follows the SC's SDSS g΄, r΄, i΄, z΄ filters, and Y filter, and the Hα filter is adopted as our first narrow-band filter. Filters for the HSC are quite large; therefore, they are constructed only by interference coatings. Based on a draft specification guided by that of SC's filters, we made prototype filters which were evaluated at a laboratory, and eventually used them in the actual HSC commissioning observation. Through this process, we learned that transmission measurement with a fine spatial sampling was crucial for reliable understanding of the filter characteristics, and this motivated us to develop an efficient measurement system. Since this measurement system is placed in the summit facility and functions semi-automatically, long-term monitoring of the performance of HSC filters will be achieved. We present in this paper the specifications that the HSC filter should meet, problems and solutions in filter implementation, issues found through the commissioning observing run, the new filter measurement system at the summit facility, and transmission curves and tables of the filters.
