Results are presented from analyzing experimental data on 0.1–10 TeV cascade showers generated by muons in the NEVOD Cherenkov water detector. The procedure for selecting and reconstructing the ...parameters of events with cascades in the detector volume is discussed. Results are presented from measurements of the zenith angle distribution of cascades for different energies. The measured distributions are compared to results from calculations.

The large-scale coordinate-tracking detector for registration of near-horizontal muon flux generated by ultra-high energy cosmic rays is being developed in MEPhI. Detector is based on the multiwire ...drift chambers from the neutrino experiment at the IHEP U-70 accelerator. Their key advantages are a large effective area (1.85 m2), good coordinate and angular resolution with a small number of measuring channels. Detector will be operated as a part of the experimental complex NEVOD, in particular, its registration system allows joint operation with Cherenkov water detector (CWD) and coordinate detector DECOR. Coordinate tracking unit on the drift chambers (CTUDC) is mounted on the opposite sides of CWD. It consists of two coordinate planes containing 8 drift chambers and represents a prototype of a full-size setup. Registration system of the CTUDC is based on the E-MISS electronics developed in IHEP, its principle of operation is presented.
Change of the energy characteristics of muon bundles with an increase of the primary cosmic ray particles energy can be a key to solving the problem of muon excess in the extensive air showers (EAS) ...observed in a number of experiments. In this work the data on the energy deposit of multi-muon events in a wide range of zenith angles (and as a consequence in a wide range of primary particles energies) obtained with NEVOD-DECOR setup over a long time period are presented. The experimental data are compared with the results of simulations of EAS muon component performed using CORSIKA code.

The NEVOD experimental complex was created at MEPhI. It includes several facilities for studying the electron–photon, muon, and hadron components of the EAS in the energy range of 1 PeV to 1 EeV. ...This work presents the first results for two months of the joint operation of five facilities (NEVOD-EAS, CWD, CTS, PRISMA-32, and DECOR). The problems of synchronizing the facilities and selecting joint events are considered. The experimental data of these facilities are analyzed for different components of the EAS in overlapping energy ranges.
The design features of the detector stations of the cluster type shower array NEVOD-EAS which is now under construction on the basis of the Unique Scientific Facility 'Experimental complex NEVOD', as ...well as the operation principle of the cluster registering system are discussed.

The detector is based on multiwire drift chambers from the neutrino experiment at the ...IHEP U-70 accelerator. Their key advantages are a large effective area (1.85 m2), a good coordinate and angular resolution with a small number of measuring channels. The detector will be operated as part of the experimental complex NEVOD, in particular, jointly with a Cherenkov water detector (CWD) with a volume of 2000 cubic meters and the coordinate detector DECOR. The first part of the detector named Coordinate-Tracking Unit based on the Drift Chambers (CTUDC), representing two coordinate planes of 8 drift chambers in each, has been developed and mounted on opposite sides of the CWD. It has the same principle of joint operation with the NEVOD-DECOR triggering system and the same drift chambers alignment, so the main features of the TREK detector will be examined. Results of the CTUDC development and a joint operation with NEVOD-DECOR complex are presented.

Russian-Italian NEVOD-DECOR experiment on the measurements of the local muon density spectra (LMDS) at various zenith angles gave possibility to obtain information on primary cosmic ray flux and ...interaction characteristics in a record wide energy range from 1015 to more than 1018 eV. Comparison of the measurement results with CORSIKA-based simulations showed the increase of LMDS slope at PeV energies of primaries (corresponding to the first knee); a trend to a heavier primary mass composition above the knee; indication for a second knee (a further increase of the spectrum slope near 1017 eV). At large zenith angles and high muon densities (corresponding to primary energies around 1018 eV) a considerable excess of muon bundle events in comparison with the expectation based on independent estimates of the primary spectrum and widely used hadron interaction models has been found. In 2011, a new phase of measurements of the energy spectrum of cascade showers initiated by high-energy muons in water and of the energy deposit of muon bundles at various zenith angles and muon multiplicities started. Further plans include the deployment of a traditional EAS array around the NEVOD-DECOR complex.

A new setup for registration of the electromagnetic component of the EAS at the "knee" region of the energy spectrum of primary cosmic rays (PCR) is now under construction on the basis of the ...experimental complex NEVOD-DECOR (Moscow, Russia). The EAS array detecting system has a cluster organization. Clusters are located in the MEPhI campus. The specific features of the array registering system that provides particle detection, data acquisition, cluster synchronization and events selection are discussed. The results of counter characteristics study are also presented.
