This article analyzes the latest treatments of Edvard Kocbek's life and oeuvre. It focuses on four such cases or actualizations: the books by Igor Omerza, Tine Hribar, and Andrej Inkret, and the ...staging of the play Pot vjajce (The Road to Jajce). Special attention is dedicated to Kocbek's political thought and the reception of some of its main points by the authors discussed. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
The article deals with the image of the Second World War in three contemporary Slovenian novels placing them in the context of the contemporary Slovenian fiction production, where the topic of the ...Second World War has been increasingly present over the last decade: Drago Jančar’s I Saw Her That Night, Maruša Krese’s That I am Afraid?, and Maja Haderlap’s The Angel of Oblivion. In analyzing them, the paper highlights their similarities and differences underlining the potentials of the novel about WWII in general. Moreover, the paper outlines the development phases of the Slovenian novel after 1990, pointing out that WWII was not an appealing theme for the poetics of postmodernism which characterized Slovenian fiction in the second half of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s. The author argues that the war – which in the Slovenian and Yugoslav context in the period 1941–1945 was inseparably connected to the issues of the revolution, anti-revolution, civil war, collaboration, and the communists coming to power – reveals itself to be productive and inspiring for the contemporary novel. Namely, this topic not only offers a broad historical and thematic field but at the same time demands a sharp ethical reflection, as does any literary representation of the ground-breaking historical events.
Der Artikel beschäftigt sich mit dem Verhältnis zwischen Philosophie und Literatur. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit liegt auf den Dionysos-Dithyramben, dem letzen Text von Nietzsche, den er vor seinem ...psychischen Zusammenbruch zum Druck vorbereitet hat. Die literarischen Texte von Nietzsche sind eine Art andere Natur , die Rückseite seines Denkens, zugleich spricht jedoch Nietzsches Dichtung auch über die wesentlichen Angelegenheiten seiner Philosophie. In diesem Sinne verlangt sie eine interpretative Abhandlung. Die Frage nach den Dionysos-Dithyramben ist auch die Frage nach dem besonderen Status der Dichtung innerhalb von Nietzsches Schaffen - aber auch nach dem Status des Buches Also sprach Zarathustra, soweit wir es vor allem als einzigartige philosophische Dichtung verstehen, das heisst, auch als literarische bzw. halbliterarische Gattung.
The paper analyses the phrase 'man in the primeval forest' as employed by Dušan Pirjevec, a Slovenian literary critic, and the similar phrase 'expedition into the jungle' as used by Vitomil Zupan, a ...Slovenian writer. The former is encountered in Pirjevec's posthumously published diary ("Diary and Remembrances", 1986) and the latter in Zupan's novel Minuet for Guitar (1975). The texts were written roughly at the same time, that is, in the mid-1970s. Both authors had joined the Partisans during World War II, an experience which profoundly affected their post-war intellectual and creative careers. The diary of Pirjevec is a philosophical (self)reflection on the Slovenian Partisan movement and the Communist revolution. It is significantly influenced by M. Heidegger's idea of the 'ontological difference', an association which enables Pirjevec to reflect on revolution in the larger context of European nihilism, planetary technology and the will to power. Zupan's writing, on the other hand, is based on a vitalism largely conceived as a plea for consistent individualism. The paper highlights the distinctive features of the two works in terms of both content and form, additionally comparing Zupan's novel with other examples of his fiction. In outlining the major similarities and differences between Pirjevec and Zupan, the conclusion partly draws on the semantic nuances of the two phrases, which are a key to understanding the two authors' oeuvres.

The article «Contemporary Slovenian literature and the challenges of globalisation » starts by tracing the structural shifts in contemporary Slovenian literature after 1975, focusing on the crisis of ...modernism and neoavantgarde, and then the beginnings of postmodernism and the specific genres of the Slovenian post-modern literature. Also, there were two consecutive phases of Slovenian post-modern prose; what began as political post-modernism later acquired a more metaphysical and autoreferential emphasis. In the recent years new themes and subjects are being introduced into contemporary Slovenian prose and plays, justifying the thesis that the most recent Slovenian literature (M. Zupančič, A. Blatnik, D. Jančar) has become socially engaged: mainly in terms of critically reflecting on the globalised world of global consumption, neo-liberal ideologies and the reign of multinational corporations.
In Greek legend Orpheus is a pre-Homeric poet, said to have lived before the Trojan War. His story is well known from the Roman poets Virgil and Ovid, who have contributed to Orpheus’ standing as a ...source of inspiration for many authors and works of world literature and other arts, from the opera to, for example, painting (cf. Frenzel 1992: 603– 608). Slovenian literature is no exception. The earliest vestiges of classical myth may be discerned even in the folk poetry of the Early and High Middle Ages and in ecclesiastical literature from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Subsequently, the reception of Greco-Roman mythology may be traced through the periods of the baroque, enlightenment, and romanticism down to the modern and post-modern Slovenian literature of the 20th and 21st centuries (see Kos 2003). It is no coincidence that it was the key figure of the Slovenian literary canon, the romantic poet France Prešeren, who laid the foundations for the whole subsequent reception of classical myth in Slovenian poetry. The main impulse “given by Prešeren to the Slovenian reception of classical myth has been the subjective appropriation, conversion, and interpretation of the myths – with ever new literary, mental and ideological approaches, to be sure, but always on the basis of identifying a given mythical character or event with the fate of the present-day subject, be it personal or poetic, individual or collective” (ib. 156).

Blockchains are seen as a technology for the future, which reduce the cost of trust and revolutionize transactions between individuals, companies and governments. The sense of using blockchains is to ...minimize the probability of errors, successful frauds and paper-intensive processes. For these reasons, blockchains already have and will have a significant impact to the society and every day's life, especially in field of Machine to Machine (M2M) communications, which are one of the basic technologies for Internet of Things (IoT). Therefore, blockchains with their inherent property to provide security, privacy and decentralized operation are engine for todays and future reliable, autonomous and trusted IoT platforms. Specially, a disruptive role of ledger technologies in future smart personal mobility systems, which combine smart car industry, smart energy/smart cities will be explained in the book, considering its importance for development of new industrial and business models.
The theme of the present article is the relationship between Nietzsche and Slovenian literature. As the word “Other” in the title suggests, the reception of Nietzsche in Slovenia was a complex one. ...Above all, it was burdened — at least in the first decades — with an a priori mistrust of Nietzsche’s philosophy. One of the reasons for this situation lies in the structure of Slovenian literature on the one hand, and of Nietzsche’s philosophy on the other.
The paper proceeds with the question of Kosovel’s attitude towards nihilism. More precisely: what Kosovel understood under this term, which he was acquainted with and himself used, and in what sense ...did he try to transcend the subject of nihilism. In this context, the discussion primarily turns on Kosovel’s attitude towards Nietzsche, as far as it can be reconstructed with the help of Kosovel’s own formulations in his letters and dairy entries. On the bases of these, it is possible to advance the thesis that the alternative to nihilism for Kosovel was not «will to power» as the active life principle in Nietzsche’s sense. Kosovel’s aspirations followed a different path. Namely, the poet spoke of the ethical revolution, which was simultaneously a spiritual revolution, but not in the name of superman as an exposed, isolated figure of will to power, but in the name of new man, new humanity and its moral attributes.
If Nietzsche abolishes the moral differentiation between good and bad and morality as such (morality is immoral), Kosovel’s endeavours go in the opposite direction: he aspires for a pronounced ethical and moral stance, since man – man as an ethical subject – needs to decide between good and bad, justice and injustice every time anew. It is in this light Kosovel’s formulation of man as «ethos incarnate» should be understood.
Nietzsche is not the key figure to open the doors into Kosovel’s poetic world. And yet in Kosovel’s perception of Nietzsche there is some kind of a significant ambivalence. This ambivalence was in a way bolstered by what could be referred to as an unintentional misreading of Nietzsche.
