Authentic leadership is a positive leadership theory, conceptualized under the influence of positive psychology and positive organizational behaviour movement. Although it has become a recognized ...leadership theory, it is still somewhat neglected in the hospitality literature. To address this gap, the paper seeks to develop and test a conceptual model linking authentic leadership to organizational performance in the hospitality context. Hypotheses were tested using hierarchical multiple regression analysis on a sample of 226 employees from 24 hotels in Croatia. The research results confirmed the positive impact of authentic leadership on hotels’ operational performance, which was mediated by followers’ job satisfaction and performance. There was no empirical support for the hypothesized impact of authentic leadership on hotels’ financial performance. The findings suggest that authentic leadership behaviours, together with positive organisational settings, characterized by flexible organizational structure, are more likely to enhance desirable employees’ attitudes and behaviours, resulting in improved organizational performance.
S druge strane, pretpostavljeni moderirajući učinak organskih organizacijskih struktura u spomenutom odnosu nije potvrden.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business activities and relationships with stakeholders. CSR is a voluntary ...initiative which refers to activities that are considered to go beyond the minimum statutory regulations. However, under the influence of globalization and information technology revolution, social expectations from companies have risen considerably, making CSR a prerequisite for survival and a source of positive differentiation from the competition. The objective of this study was to explore corporate social responsibility in Croatian companies, with the aim of identifying CSR programs represented in three broad categories: economic, social and environmental initiatives. To that end, the study employed content analysis to survey the websites of 20 Croatian companies. The research findings contribute to managers of Croatian companies as well as multinational corporations inside Croatia to improve CSR practices in the country with different value systems from more developed countries where contemporary CSR evolved.
The purpose of this paper is to assess competitiveness of private accommodation, and to offer the necessary measures which would improve the quality of this segment of tourism that would later ...provide additional opportunities for the creation of a new market position as well as increasing quality of life and standard of local population. A study of attitudes and opinions of private accommodation providers was conducted, in conjunction with assessing the current state and possibilities of further development of this sector. The study was carried out from January to June 2012 in Primorsko-goranska County. A questionnaire survey was used for gathering data and a specially structured questionnaire consisting of three parts was formed. The collected data analysis included descriptive statistics. The research results indicate the changes in the demographic structure of the private accommodation providers, their motives for the provision of accommodation in the households as well as total revenues from the provision of accommodation services in the households.
In the past few decades, the concept of corporate social responsibility has been at the centre of interest in many areas of economic research, studies using different levels of analysis. This paper ...analyses corporate social responsibility at the level of organisation within the banking system, where the issue of corporate social responsibility disclosure comes under the spotlight with the emergence of the global economic crisis. The purpose of the study is twofold: to examine whether Croatian banks’ online corporate social responsibility reporting depends upon their market share, and whether it focuses on community related information. Using website content analysis of all twenty-eight banks currently operating in the Croatian banking sector, corporate social responsibility disclosure is categorised in terms of themes (environment, human resources, customers and products, and community involvement). The research findings reveal that the level of Croatian banks’ online CSR disclosure is largely dependent on banks’ market share. On the other hand, results indicate that Croatian banks are mainly reporting on activities related to customers and products, followed by those, which imply community involvement. Human resources and environmental initiatives receive the least amount of attention. The results of the study can be used to more deeply comprehend and understand banks’ corporate social responsibility as a business philosophy that contributes to organisational performance and building trust between market participants.
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to assess competitiveness of private accommodation, and to offer the necessary measures which would improve the quality of this segment of tourism that would ...later provide additional opportunities for the creation of a new market position as well as increasing quality of life and standard of local population. Design and methodology – A study of attitudes and opinions of private accommodation providers was conducted, in conjunction with assessing the current state and possibilities of further development of this sector. The study was carried out from January to June 2012 in Primorsko-goranska County. A questionnaire survey was used for gathering data and a specially structured questionnaire consisting of three parts was formed. For the purposes of this paper, the first two parts of the questionnaire were analysed in detail. A total of 432 questionnaires were found usable for the study. The collected data analysis included descriptive statistics. Approach – The special focus is given to obtaining relevant results by using comparative analysis with the findings of previously conducted researches of private accommodation in Primorskogoranska County. Findings – The research results indicate the changes in the demographic structure of the private accommodation providers, their motives for the provision of accommodation in the households as well as total revenues from the provision of accommodation services in the households. Qualitative shifts in the structure of accommodation capacity are also identified. Specifically, socio-demographic changes include: increasing the share of younger and highly-educated private accommodation providers. Significant increase is noticeable in the number of private accommodation providers whose basic motive of providing services is connected with increasing the basic household income. The increase in total revenue from the provision of accommodation services in the household is also evident. Research results which are related to changes in the type and form of accommodation, suggest a qualitative shift in terms of reducing the number of rooms and suites, and increasing number of holiday homes as a form of quality accommodation in the households. Originality of research – Since there has not been any systematic research conducted on private accommodation, this research opens enough space for further theoretical and applicative improvement. Special emphasis is put on the importance of raising the level of quality and restructuring of private accommodation.

Tourism demand, as a set of goods and services people consume during their travels, greatly affects tourism development in a destination. Hence, forecasting tourism demand is the subject of numerous ...studies in the field of tourism. Many of these studies use a time series analysis approach to examine tourism demand, foremost through tourist arrivals but also through the number of overnights and tourist expenditure. The purpose of this paper is twofold: to examine trends in tourist arrivals in the city of Rijeka, Croatia over the last ten-year period and to forecast tourist arrivals in the near future. The time series analysis method is applied to this end, with tourism demand being measured by the overall number of tourist arrivals. The research findings provide deeper insights into, and a better understanding of, tourism demand forecasting as a factor of efficient tourism planning.

In the overall tourism accommodation offer, camping offer presents an important segment of many European tourist destinations' carrying capacity. One third of the commercial offer in Europe is ...supplied by campsites, while in Croatia these capacities account for a quarter of all commercial accommodation units. The paper explores Croatian and European systems of campsites quality evaluation due to their extraordinary importance for the competitiveness of the camping product as well as their role in increasing the level of tourist consumption. The aim of this paper is to explore the relationship between quality and prices of camping services that encourage guest satisfaction as well as high performance and competitiveness of the camping offer. The authors wish to prove the thesis that higher quality camping product has a higher price, thus increasing the quality of camping demand, which implies both improved financial performance and competitiveness of camping accommodation as a special form of tourist accommodation. It is expected that the research results will confirm the thesis of the interdependence of quality and price of camping services, which encourages increased quality performance of camping facilities, but also contributes to the overall success and competitiveness of tourist destinations.
