Physalis alkekengi L. var.
franchetii (PA) are traditionally used in folk medicine to treat cough, middle ear infection, sore throat, abscesses, and urinary problems. ...However, the cellular mechanisms underlying PA's possible anti-inflammatory effects are unknown.
We examined the effect of a methanol extract of PA on the production of nitric oxide (NO), inducible NO synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interleukin (IL)-6. We also examined the extract's effect on the activity of IκBα, mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and STAT1 in macrophages stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or LPS/interferon-γ (IFN-γ). We further fractioned the extract into chloroform and water to investigate which fraction possessed anti-inflammatory activity.
We found that the PA methanol extract significantly reduced the production of NO, iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, and IL-6. The extract also inhibited LPS-induced IκBα degradation and MAPK activation as well as LPS/IFN-γ-induced STAT1 activation, effects observed at a higher concentration than that required to suppress iNOS. The chloroform fraction possessed the anti-inflammatory activity of PA by inhibiting the expression of iNOS, TNF-α and IL-6 through downregulation of IκBα degradation and MAPK activation.
Our findings indicate that the PA methanol extract contains different anti-inflammatory compounds, some of which suppressed iNOS expression and some of which inhibited IκBα degradation and MAPK activity. Further research is warranted to identify these anti-inflammatory components of PA and validate its use in animal studies.
Summary Back pain significantly affects both patients and society through personal suffering, supporting burden, work loss, and incurred expenses. With no unequivocal support for surgery versus ...conservative treatment, an integrative approach has become popular in Korea. Objectives To investigate the outcomes of an integrative package for low back pain with leg pain. Methods A prospective cohort study involving patients with low back and leg pain and confirmed disc herniation was carried out at an outpatient clinic in Korea. The treatment package comprised of herbal medicines, acupuncture, bee venom acupuncture, and a Korean version of spinal manipulation (Chuna). Study participants were evaluated at baseline and every 4 weeks for 24 weeks. Low back and leg pain intensity levels were measured on a visual analog scale (0–10), back function was evaluated with the Oswestry Disability Index (0–100), and the overall quality of life was assessed using the SF-36 Health Survey (0–100 in 8 different subcategories). Results Out of 150 patients, 128 completed the 24 weeks of therapy. Patients reported improvements in all outcome measures. At the completion of the study, low back pain scores improved by a mean of 3.3 (95% CI = 2.8 to 3.8), and leg pain scores improved by a mean of 6.3 (95% CI = 5.9 to 6.6). Significant improvements in ODI and SF-36 scores were observed at 4 weeks and sustained throughout. Conclusions This integrative package was effective in the treatment of LBP with leg pain and warrants further rigorous investigations.
This study is to review methodological limitations of previous studies, propose Tobit Model as an analysis model. We model used annual rent-free as dependent variable and considering to contract ...characteristics and building characteristics as independent variable. We model was consisted to the three model as follow: Basic model, Time control model, Quadratic model. As a result of the analysis, existing variables revealed through previous studies such as contract period, contract area, total floor area, and building age were all statistically significant. These results were robust when considering time effects. Also, floor area and annual rent-free was quadratic relationship by inverse U shape. This result provide to methodological contribution for related research. Also, provide to more accurate information for participants in seoul office market. 본 연구는 기존 연구의 방법론적 한계를 검토하고 이를 극복할 수 있는 분석모형으로 Tobit을 제안하며, 이 모형을 이용한 실증분석결과를 도출하고 시사점을 제시하는 것을 연구목적으로 한다. 종속변수로 연평균 렌트프리를 사용하였으며 독립변수는 계약특성과 건물특성을 사용하였다. 계약특성에는 신규계약여부, 계약기간, 계약면적을 사용하였으며, 계약시점을 통제하기 위한 계약연도 더미를 사용하였다. 건물특성은 건물연한, 연면적, 연면적제곱, NOC, 권역더미를 사용하였다. 분석모형은 시점을 고려하지 않은 기본모형, 계약시점을 고려한 시점통제모형, 연면적과의 2차함수 관계를 검정하기 위한 2차식 모형의 3개 모형을 설정하고 실증분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과 계약기간, 계약면적, 연면적, 건물연한과 같은 선행연구를 통해 밝혀진 기존 변수들이 모두 통계적으로 유의하였으며, 본 연구에서 추가적으로 검증하고자 한 신규계약여부도 통계적으로 유의하였다. 또한, 연면적과 연평균 렌트프리 사이의 역U자 관계도 존재하는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 렌트프리에 관한 기존 연구를 방법론적으로 발전시키는 기여가 있으며, 더욱 정밀한 분석결과를 제공하여 서울의 오피스 임대차시장 참여자들에게 유용한 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
Objectives: This study was performed to report the effect of oriental treatments for panic disorder with functional gastrointestinal disturbance. Methods: In this case, a 30 year-old female patient ...has been suffered by panic disorder with functional gastrointestinal disturbance for 10 years. This case can be caused by KanKiUlKyul(肝氣鬱結), KanKiBeomYi(肝氣犯胃,) and KanKiSeungBi(肝氣乘脾). We treated the patient with Herbal medication, Cognitive-behavioral therapy and Relaxation therapy. The effects of treatment were measured by GSRS(Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale), BPI(Brief Pain Inventory) and VAS(Visual Analog Scale) Results: As a result of oriental treatments, the symptoms of Panic Disorder with Functional Gastrointestinal Disturbance was improved. Conclusions: These results suggest that oriental treatments have an effect on Panic Disorder with Functional Gastrointestinal Disturbance.
In this study, we treated a patient with psychogenic chronic low back pain for 2 years with herbal medication treatment and psychotherapy. The case was a 17 years old female patient complained ...chronic low back pain for a long time. She received the spine operation, epidural injection, many kind of oriental medicine treatment about low back pain, but there was no improvement. We diagnosed her pain as a psychogenic pain disorder, and treated her with herbal medication for decrease her stress, and did a psychotherapy such as the progressive muscle relaxation, and counseled about trouble with her family. After treatment, her chronic low back pain was improved so much. We think that the herbal medication treatment and psychotherapy can be helpful to treat patients who have psychic and physical disorders.
Hwabyung is an culture-bound anger syndrome in Korea. It consists of as one or more of a wide range of physical symptoms, in response to emotional stress. In this case, a 51-years woman complained ...neck pain and foreign body sensation in throat. We diagnosed her Hwabyung because her chief complaint occurred from stress in process of traffic accident. We classified her Soeumin in Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and used Hwanggigyeji-tang. And we encouraged her think positive and don't worry about little matters because Soeumin tend to think negative and wony about little matters. After treatment, her condition got improved. This report suggest that treatment method of Sasang Constitutional Medicine such as herb medicine and way of thinking is effective in treatment of Hwabyung patient.
Tension Myositis Syndrome is defined as the muscle syndromes affected by brain signal as a result of stress. Furthermore, painful muscles cause tensional emotions in body system. Pain is the result ...of mutual co-operations between the brain and muscles. Unpleasant feelings increase the pain intensity. In addition, painful muscles were seen to have influences on the brain neurological system. Therefore, in spite of physical treatments, chronic pain has a tendency to be persistent and incurable. For psychological cures, We applied deep breathing, muscle relaxation therapy for anxious, sensitive chronic neck pain patient, then we evaluated her Visual Analogue Scale in reference to subjective feelings of pains every other day at 9 PM. In conclusion, We found that deep breathing and muscle relaxations helped reduce the feeling of pains for those who suffered from anxiety, tensional pains. Therefore, relaxation therapies are necessary methods for pain controls as well as physical treatments. 2005년 5월 자생한방병원 한방신경정신과에 입원한 환자에 대하여 긴장성 근육통 증후군의 관점에서의 접근을 통해 이완 요법치료를 실시하여 환자 동통 치료에 대하여 양호한 결과를 보였고 환자의 통증 회복 의지에 대한 심리 상태에도 변화가 있었다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 소견을 보였다. 1. 기질적인 원인이 있는 만성 경항부 통증 환자에서 환자의 심리적 상태를 고려한 이완요법을 병행하여 통증 지각 감소와 심리적 자신감 회복에 양호한 결과를 보였다. 2. 긴장성 근육통 증후군에서의 환자의 내재되어 있는 심리상태가 통증을 일으킨다고 보는 관점은 한의학적 관점에서는 기(氣)의 순환 장애에서 오는 기통증(氣痛症), 기울증(氣鬱症)으로 볼 수 있으며, 이완 요법은 환자 치료에 정서, 심리적인 측면을 고려한 점에서 이정변기요법(移精變氣療法)등과 같은 한방정신요법과 유사성을 찾아 볼 수 있다. 3. 이완 요법은 통증 치료에 있어서 심리적 이완, 안정을 도모하고, 통증에 대한 과도한 관심을 억제하여 통증 지각 완화에 도움이 된다.
Objective : It is known that depression disorder has been related to chronic pains such as HIVD and physical harm. We propose that chronic cervical and lumbar herniations of intervertebral disc ...patients have emotional and psychiatric problems, therefore we compared it to Beck`s Depression Inventory scores. Method : We divided them into two groups: The groups consisted of cervical and lumbar HIVD patients. We then requested them to fill out BDI research questionnaires, and evaluated patients according to the information and results. Result : The Beck`s Depression Inventory mean score for the cervical - lumbar HIVD group was 14.00±6.80, 10.83±5.64 each. Higher scores were recorded for cervical HIVD group than the lumbar HIVD group. Conclusion : There is statistical significance among two groups.(p<.05) however, the two groups` BDI score were lower than the defined boundary line of Depressiondisorder(16 points).
Inhibitors of the secretion of cancer exosomes, which promote cancer progression and metastasis, may not only accelerate exosome biology research but also offer therapeutic benefits for cancer ...patients. Here we identify sulfisoxazole (SFX) as an inhibitor of small extracellular vesicles (sEV) secretion from breast cancer cells through interference with endothelin receptor A (ETA). SFX, an FDA-approved oral antibiotic, showed significant anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects in mouse models of breast cancer xenografts, the reduced expression of proteins involved in biogenesis and secretion of sEV, and triggered co-localization of multivesicular endosomes with lysosomes for degradation. We demonstrate the important role of ETA, as target of SFX, by gain- and loss-of-function studies of the ETA protein, through a direct binding assay, and pharmacological and genetic approaches. These findings may provide a foundation for sEV-targeted cancer therapies and the mechanistic studies on sEV biology.
