BACKGROUND: Among the less invasive operations noted in recent years, laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for gastric cancer has become popular because of advances in surgical techniques. We have performed ...LG with D2 lymphadenectomy for 515 cases of gastric cancer between April 2009 and November 2019 at military hospital 103.
AIM: We aimed to presented the techniques and results of laparoscopic-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) for gastric cancer.
METHODS: Of the 515 gastric malignancy cases, distal gastrectomy was performed in 402 cases, proximal gastrectomy in 37 cases, and total gastrectomy in 76 cases. In all the cases, D2 lymph node dissection was performed according to the general rule of the Japanese gastric cancer association 3rd.
RESULTS: Quicker recovery was observed in the LG cases than in the open cases. The post-operative complications with this technique were within a permissible range. There was a statistical difference that was seen in the survival outcomes after LAG for gastric cancer between the laparoscopic-assisted distant, proximal, and total gastrectomy.
CONCLUSION: The laparoscopic technique is not only less invasive but also relatively safe and curative compared with open gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer.
Background This study aimed to measure the preferences for mental health support among health professionals, their willingness to support the mental health of colleagues and associated factors. ...Method A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed from August to October 2022 within five hospitals located in Hanoi, Vietnam. A total of 244 health professionals participated in the study. Data on socio-economic status, health and COVID-19-related characteristics, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21); and preferences for mental health support services were collected by using a structured self-reported questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression models were utilized to identify associated factors with the demand for mental support services. Results 13.9%, 17.1% and 8.6% reported having at least mild depression, anxiety and stress, respectively. There 13.9% did not seek any mental health support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The most common support included talking with friends (52.9%), family (50.8%), colleagues (47.6%) and using social networks/Internet (43.5%). There 31.1% had been aware of mental health services, but only 18.0% used this service at least once. Regarding preferences, 47.3% had a demand for mental support services, and the most preferred service was providing coping skills (25.9%), followed by skills to support others against mental problems (22.2%). Major sources of support included psychiatrists (34.4%), colleagues (29.1%) and family (27.9%). The main preferred channels for support included telephone/mobile phone (35.7%) and Internet (20.9%). Only 12.3% were willing to provide mental support for colleagues during the pandemic. Age, education, perceived mental health status, ever seeking any mental service, and DASS-21 depression score were associated with demand for mental support services. Conclusion This study found a lack of awareness of mental health services for health professionals, as well as moderate levels of demand for this service in this population. Raising awareness and developing tailored mental health support services are important to enhancing the mental well-being of health professionals in Vietnam to prepare for the next pandemic.

The natural history of tuberculosis (TB) is characterized by a large inter-individual outcome variability after exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Specifically, some highly exposed individuals ...remain resistant to M. tuberculosis infection, as inferred by tuberculin skin test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs). We performed a genome-wide association study of resistance to M. tuberculosis infection in an endemic region of Southern Vietnam. We enrolled household contacts (HHC) of pulmonary TB cases and compared subjects who were negative for both TST and IGRA (n = 185) with infected individuals (n = 353) who were either positive for both TST and IGRA or had a diagnosis of TB. We found a genome-wide significant locus on chromosome 10q26.2 with a cluster of variants associated with strong protection against M. tuberculosis infection (OR = 0.42, 95%CI 0.35-0.49, P = 3.71×10-8, for the genotyped variant rs17155120). The locus was replicated in a French multi-ethnic HHC cohort and a familial admixed cohort from a hyper-endemic area of South Africa, with an overall OR for rs17155120 estimated at 0.50 (95%CI 0.45-0.55, P = 1.26×10-9). The variants are located in intronic regions and upstream of C10orf90, a tumor suppressor gene which encodes an ubiquitin ligase activating the transcription factor p53. In silico analysis showed that the protective alleles were associated with a decreased expression in monocytes of the nearby gene ADAM12 which could lead to an enhanced response of Th17 lymphocytes. Our results reveal a novel locus controlling resistance to M. tuberculosis infection across different populations.

(1) Background: This study aims to assess the magnitude of, and factors associated with, depression and anxiety among Vietnamese frontline hospital healthcare workers in the fourth wave of COVID-19; ...(2) Methods: A hospital based cross-sectional study was carried out within two weeks, October 2020, at a central COVID-19 treatment hospital. Depression and anxiety were measured with PHQ-9 and GAD-7, respectively. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were applied to recognize variables related to depression and anxiety, respectively; (3) Results: Among 208 frontline hospital healthcare workers, overall prevalence of depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and both symptoms of depression and anxiety was 38.94%, 25.48% and 24.04%, respectively, in healthcare workers. (1) Background: The present study measures the fear of COVID-19 among hospital healthcare workers and identifies several factors associated with increasing fear of COVID-19. (2) Methods: A ...cross-sectional, hospital-based survey was conducted on healthcare workforce recruited from the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases from 1 October 2021 and 20 October 2021. We selected the participants who have been directly involved in diagnosing, treating, or providing nursing care to patients with COVID-19. The primary data was collected via sending the invitation directly to the participants, utilizing structured self-completed questionnaires. The seven-item fear of COVID-19 scale was used to measure the data. The responses of 208 hospital healthcare workers were included in the final analysis. (3) Results: Total score of COVID-19 fear was 19.62 (SD = 5.22). The COVID-19 fear score of 7 items ranged from 2.38 (SD = 0.83) to 3.21 (SD = 0.96). The lowest and highest scores were the item '

We report a high yield exfoliation of few-layer-graphene (FLG) with up to 17% yield from expanded graphite, under 5 h sonication time in water, using graphene oxide (GO) as a surfactant. The aqueous ...dispersion of GO attached FLG (FLG–GO), with less than 5 layers, is used as a template for further decoration of nanodiamonds (NDs). The hybrid materials were self-organized into 3D-laminated nanostructures, where spherical NDs with a diameter of 4–8 nm are homogeneously distributed on the surface of the FLG–GO complex (referred to as FLG–GO@NDs). It was found that GO plays a dual role, it (1) mediated exfoliation of expanded graphite in aqueous solution resulting in a FLG–GO colloid system, and (2) incorporated ND particles for the formation of composites. A high catalytic performance in the dehydrogenation of ethyl-benzene on FLG–GO@ND metal-free catalyst is achieved; 35.1% of ethylbenzene conversion and 98.6% styrene selectivity after a 50 h reaction test are observed which correspond to an activity of 896 mmol ST g catalyst −1 h −1 , which is 1.7 and 5 times higher than those of the unsupported NDs and traditional catalysts, respectively. The results demonstrate the potential of the FLG–GO@ND composite as a promising catalyst for steam-free industrial dehydrogenation applications.
The association between lung deposition of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 µm (PM2.5) from welding fumes and lung function is unclear. We conducted a cohort study with a ...follow-up of 4 years in 115 shipyard workers to investigate the incidence rate of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and to evaluate the effects of welding fume PM2.5 deposition on fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), lung function, and blood pressure using generalized estimating equation models. Personal exposure to welding fumes was measured, and deposition fractions of inhaled welding fume PM2.5 in lung regions were estimated using multiple-path particle dosimetry. We observed the overall incidence rate of COPD to be 2.51 cases per 100 person-years. The incidence rate was higher in welding workers than in office workers and higher in non-smokers compared to smokers. In the overall cohort subjects, we observed that an increase in the interquartile range of PM2.5 was associated with a 1.618-ppb decrease in FeNO, a 0.115-L decrease in FVC, a 0.091-L decrease in FEV1, a 0.520% increase in the FEV1/FVC ratio, a 0.259-L s–1 decrease in PEF, a 0.096-L s–1 decrease in FEF25%-75%, a 0.215-L s–1 decrease in FEF25%, and a 0.114-L s–1 decrease in FEF50% (all p < 0.05). We observed that a 1-µg m–3 increase in PM2.5 deposition in lung regions (total lung, and head and nasal, tracheobronchial, and alveolar regions) was associated with decreases (β coefficients) in FeNO, FVC, FEV1, PEF, FEF25%-75%, FEF25%, and FEF50% (all p < 0.05). We observed that the absolute values of β coefficients decreased as follows: alveolar > head and nasal > tracheobronchial > total lung regions. Higher incidence rates of COPD were observed in non-smokers and welders, which associated with lung function declines due to PM2.5 exposure. Pulmonary effects by welding fume PM2.5 in occupational settings is an urgent occupational issue for worker health protection.

Pityriasis versicolor was diagnosed in 305 (22.48%) students and confirmed by clinical appearance and direct examination. A total of 293 (96.07%) samples grew on modified Dixon agar. With regard to demographic characteristics, 50.49% of the PV cases were female, and 57.38% of cases resided in urban areas. Furthermore, 88.52% of the subjects had the illness duration of more than 6 months. Hypopigmented and erythematous skin lesions were also observed in the research participants, with hypopigmentation being the most frequent condition (97.05%). Most of the

The functionalization of carbon nanomaterials in controlled and selective manner and in order to stabilize small metal nanoparticles is of high interest particularly in the catalysis ...field. We present the μ-waves assisted few layer graphene (FLG) oxidation in water, which results in a partial sheets exfoliation and formation of oxygen functionalized carbon nanoballs, supported on highly graphitized graphene sheets. This double morphology material allows homogenous anchoring of Pt nanoparticles, while the advantages of planar and highly crystallized FLG are preserved. For comparison, acid treated FLG (conventional heating) exhibits highly hydrophobic and inert surface with carboxylic groups as anchoring sides localized at the FLG edges. Despite similar oxygen content, the performed physicochemical analyses depict different nature and localization of the oxygen/defects functionalities introduced in water (in μ-waves) and acid treated FLGs. Finally, the addition of FLG during the preparation of Pt particles-carried out by μ-wave assisted polyol method yields small nanoparticles with average size of 1nm.
