The 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child guarantees all children the right to an education, and this paper focuses on Roma children and that right. The extent of Serbia’s strategy documents was ...reviewed, particularly in light of their responsibility for guaranteeing equity, accessibility, and equal educational opportunities for all children. The study’s objective is to assess how content related to the Roma is portrayed in current curricula (N = 16) and textbooks (N = 93) for the 2022–2023 academic year. It was discovered that despite the objectives in each of the analyzed courses (Serbian language, The World around Us, Nature and Society, Music Education, and Civic Education) clearly promote equality, diversity, and mutual appreciation, democratic values, inclusion, and anti-discrimination, none of them explicitly mention the words Roma or the Roma people. Only a few times do the Roma people explicitly appear in textbooks on nature, society, and music, and then only as a numerical representation of the national minority; no mention is made of the positive traits of the Roma people, who have their own identity, tradition, and culture as well as well-known members. The results highlight the need for textbooks to include specific content about the Roma people as fundamental teaching tools. This content should also be included in the curriculum because it would help students of Roma origin feel less excluded and more empowered to participate in school on an equal footing.

Logical thinking represents an important process of reasoning and a basic skill in building students' knowledge and experience which should accompany the learning process and develop students' ...potential at all levels of education. The program of teaching and learning mathematics in primary education in Serbia contains a large number of topics that support the goal of learning mathematics, but there is also room for improvement. The paper deals with the possibility of propaedeutics of logic and the encouragement of logical thinking, the application of open-ended tasks in the initial teaching of mathematics. Respectively to the program contents of the mathematics class, examples of open-ended tasks are presented, as support and analog to teachers in creating teaching practice, in order to promote the development of students' logical thinking, as an important component of mathematics learning outcomes.
The research problem of this paper is the competencies of teachers for the implementation of distance teaching in Music Culture. We started with the special assumptions that the research will ...demonstrate that there is no significant difference in teachers' assessments of their competencies for the implementation of distance teaching in Music Culture, depending on the impact of their length of service in teaching and their knowledge of ICT and participation in professional development programs in the field of ICT. The research was conducted in the first half of the 2021/2022 school year on a sample of 170 teachers who were surveyed by an online questionnaire. Data collected by the research and processed by descriptive statistics showed that there is no significant difference in the competencies of teachers for the implementation of distance teaching in Music Culture depending on the impact of their length of service in teaching and their knowledge of information and communication technologies: ²(2) = .164; p = .921 and the participation in professional training programs in the field of information and communication technologies: ²(2) = 1.839; p = .399. Based on the research results, the paper proposes a program of professional development of teachers with the aim of increasing the level of their digital competence for the effective implementation of teaching Music Culture. The skills necessary to possess this competence are: the need for ICT in everyday work; ability to search and process information through ICT; ability to access forums and other ways of using ICT and information.
Student achievement is primarily conditioned by the quality of the curriculum and the teaching process. From the perspective of the modern conception of mathematics literacy, the efficacy of the ...basic mathematics education in Serbia is reflected in student achievement at international TIMSS and PISA tests. A comparative analysis of the TIMSS and PISA contents and our curriculum has shown that the content of our curriculum for basic mathematics education requires improvement. Moreover, a comparative analysis of mathematics curricula for the lower grades of primary school that are currently in force in many countries (Finland, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia) with the mathematics curricula in Serbia has revealed chronological and contentrelated discrepancies. The authors of the paper point out the disproportion in student achievement at TIMSS and PISA tests for the purpose of looking for plausible explanations and exploring the ways of improving mathematics teaching at primary school level. The paper offers a suggestion for modernisation of the curriculum for the primary school grades 1 to 4 by enlarging the current curriculum and introducing new content relevant for further education. Drawing upon the results of the research conducted to this day, the authors recommend a propaedeutic approach in the preparation of students for the adoption of formal knowledge, from the 5th grade onwards. If this approach is implemented, we can reasonably expect better effects of learning of the aforementioned content for grades 5 to 8 of primary school.
Bearing in mind that the history of mathematics and its discoveries can play a significant role in mathematics education today, the authors draw attention to an ancient computing tool – abacus, and ...point out its role, importance, values, and opportunities it offers in working with children. In order to achieve this goal and using the method of theoretical analysis, the authors researched the values of application of the Japanese abacus (soroban) in mathematics education through the following aspects: learning mental arithmetic, understanding the place value of a digit, contribution to working with children with developmental disabilities, primarily with visual and hearing impairments, as well as contributions to children’s mental development and problem-solving abilities. Based on numerous research papers and views, the authors conclude that Japanese abacus can have many benefits in working with children in mathematics education, among which the most important are conceptual understanding of mental arithmetic and developing mental computation and problem-solving skills, gaining a clear mental picture of the structure of numbers, their magnitude and relationship, understanding the place value of a digit, but also developing motivation and positive attitudes toward mathematics.
An effective instructional approach in elementary mathematics education has a significant role in the understanding of mathematical concepts and overall student achievement. We point out the ...characteristics, significance and effects that may be achieved in mathematics education through the application of project-based learning. The aim of the study was to examine the effects of project-based learning on student achievement in lower elementary mathematics education and examine whether the project-based model was equally acceptable to students with different marks. We arranged quasi-experimental research instruction (experiment with parallel groups), on a sample (N = 147) in order to examine whether an instructional approach based on the principles of project-based work would achieve better effects of learning and student achievement compared to the usual way of learning implemented in mathematics education. Results of the final measurements show that students in the experimental group, who worked according to the model of project-based work, achieved better compared to students who worked in the usual way. With this study we have shown that project-based instruction has significant effects on student achievement in lower elementary mathematics education, and that it can undoubtedly contribute to the methodological empowerment of teachers in their teaching practice.
The paper presents the methodological approach of propedeutic introduction to fractions, based on the integration of the mathematical contents, with the aim to examine whether this approach to ...contents in initial mathematical education enhances the quality of learners' knowledge. The quality of knowledge was assessed according to successful application of acquired knowledge in solving problem tasks and tasks presented in realistic context. The empirical test of the offered methodological approach was verified within an experimental research with the sample comprising the fourth-grade pupils of an elementary school during regular math classes. The results of the research show that the integration of contents in propedeutic learning enhances significantly pupils' successfulness in independent solving problem tasks and application of acquired knowledge in solving tasks presented in a realistic context.

Cilj je rada predstaviti rezultate provedenog istraživanja o organizaciji i upravljanju zbirkama građe na manjinskim pismima i jezicima u hrvatskim školskim knjižnicama koje izvode nastavu na ...temelju stručnih preporuka i standarda te usvojenih obrazovnih modela i programa za nacionalne manjine. Istraživanjem se nastojalo saznati zadovoljavaju li postojeće zbirke u školskim knjižnicama potrebe svojih korisnika pripadnika nacionalnih manjina te na koji se način i uz koje poteškoće upravlja manjinskim zbirkama u školskim knjižnicama, kao i otkriti poteškoće u nabavi predmetne građe
Pristup. Polazeći od saznanja da su organizacija i upravljanje knjižničnim zbirkama za nacionalne manjine otežani, osobito u odnosu na pribavljanje građe i upoznatost školskih knjižničara s jezikom i pismom pripadnika nacionalne manjine kojoj pružaju usluge, provedeno je online istraživanje među školskim knjižničarima koji svakodnevno rade s knjižničnom građom, pružaju informacije i organiziraju različite programe.
Rezultati. Rezultati istraživanja predstavljeni u ovom radu jasno upućuju na činjenicu da je knjižnična građa na jeziku i pismu nacionalnih manjina u obrazovnom sustavu u Republici Hrvatskoj uglavnom nedostatna, a uslijed nedostatka iste na tržištu, kao i izostanka kontinuiranih i kvalitetnih izvora financiranja njezine nabave, ujedno i teško dostupna krajnjim korisnicima.
Praktična primjena. Teza o unapređenju dostupnosti predmetne građe u digitalnom obliku koju predlažu autori ovoga rada nameće se kao najlogičnije i dugoročno najekonomičnije rješenje koje je u ovom trenutku moguće ponuditi, iako ni to nije dovoljno za pokrivanje svih potreba nastavnog procesa u školama u kojima se nastava izvodi na jeziku i pismu nacionalnih manjina zbog nedovoljne opremljenosti informacijsko-telekomunikacijskom tehnologijom te obučenosti za rad s novim medijima, e-učenje i slično.
Društveni značaj. Na osnovi proučene zakonodavne osnove, međunarodnih i domaćih stručnih preporuka i standarda, stručne literature te analize odgovora koje su ispitanici dali tijekom istraživanja, predlažu se koraci za poboljšanje kvalitete rada u školskim knjižnicama u školama s nastavom na manjinskom jeziku u Republici Hrvatskoj.
Originalnost. Provedeno istraživanje donosi dosad neobjavljene i korisne podatke na osnovi kojih se zaključuje o potrebnim iskoracima te ukazuje na probleme vrijedne daljnjih istraživačkih napora.
The aim of the paper is to examine the opinion of teachers about the representation and limitations of the application of collaborative learning in online teaching of mathematics. The survey ...conducted on a sample selected from the population of primary school teachers in R. Serbia (N=116), and data were collected about cooperative learning in online mathematics classes. The results showed that the majority of teachers apply group work, and less often online teaching. They believe that it is possible to organize collaborative learning in online mathematics classes in lower grades, but that there are certain limitations in the realization of this way of teaching. A small number of them have realized such activities through online classes.

Cilj je rada predstaviti rezultate provedenog istraživanja o organizaciji i uprav-ljanju zbirkama građe na manjinskim pismima i jezicima u hrvatskim školskim knjižni-cama koje izvode nastavu na ...temelju stručnih preporuka i standarda te usvojenih obra-zovnih modela i programa za nacionalne manjine. Istraživanjem se nastojalo saznati zadovoljavaju li postojeće zbirke u školskim knjižnicama potrebe svojih korisnika pri-padnika nacionalnih manjina te na koji se način i uz koje poteškoće upravlja manjinskim zbirkama u školskim knjižnicama, kao i otkriti poteškoće u nabavi predmetne građe.
