Findings
Mobility, security/privacy risk, and trust in the service provider are important factors affecting the adoption of smart home services.
Practical implications
To increase potential users’ adoption rate, service providers should focus on developing mobility-related services that enable people to access smart home services while on the move using mobile devices via control and monitoring functions.
Originality/value
This study is the first empirical attempt to examine user acceptance of smart home services, as most of the prior literature has concerned technical features.
This study examines not only the relationship between work-related smartphone use after work and job burnout but also the 3-way interaction effect of social support and perceived organizational ...politics (POPs) on this relationship. The findings of an analysis of 387 Korean workers provide various significant implications. The 3-way interaction effect of POPs was identified, while the interaction effect of social support between work-related smartphone use after work and job burnout was not confirmed. Specifically, the negative impact of work-related smartphone use after work, which induces job burnout, was found to be mitigated when supervisor support was high in a negative political work environment. However, in a positive political work environment, greater supervisor support was actually found to increase the negative impact of work-related smartphone use after work, while strong peer support reduced the negative impact of work-related smartphone use after work. This study contributes to research by providing an extended research model of how work-related smartphone use after work affects job burnout and how social support and political work environment moderate this relationship. Additional longitudinal studies including other factors of job demands and resources will facilitate more academic and practical discussions.

Streaming media devices have recently become one of the innovative IT devices used to replace traditional smart TV sets. In order to examine user acceptance of streaming media device, this study ...proposes an extended research model based upon flow theory and investigates the relationship among flow, perceived usefulness, product-related characteristics (i.e., content quality, functionality, ease of use, portability), and a manufacturer-related characteristic (i.e., trust). Partial least square methodology was employed to test the proposed model and corresponding hypotheses on data collected from 305 survey samples. The results showed that flow and perceived usefulness, two mediating variables, has a significant influence on usage intention. Among the four antecedents reflecting product-related attributes, content quality has the strongest effect on flow. Interestingly, functionality and ease of use affected only perceived usefulness in an indirect way through flow. Thus, flow mediates the effect of functionality and ease of use on perceived usefulness. This study discusses a number of implications and offers insights useful for both researchers and practitioners.
Smart cars have become more intelligent and technologically complex; however, consumers have raised concerns about their security because of hacking and technical safety. Although numerous studies ...have focused on the technological issues of smart cars, there is a need for new perspectives and discussions to examine drivers' perceptions of smart car security and safety. Understanding drivers' security perceptions and behaviors in a smart car environment is crucial for enhancing smart car security and driving industrial growth. Therefore, this study analyses the factors affecting drivers' willingness to pay (WTP) for smart car security based on protection motivation theory and explores the relationship between protective motivations and post-behavior. This study analyses how drivers' security vulnerabilities and severity perceptions in a smart car environment affect their WTP for security software. In addition, the comparative analysis discusses how security perceptions differ between traditional PC and smart car environments. The results of this study demonstrate that drivers are sensitive to smart car security and are willing to pay to strengthen security. Moreover, the results of this study suggest that the role of security solution companies is important for strengthening smart car security and expanding the market. This study has academic significance because it is an early study discussing driver behavior related to smart car security software on a theoretical basis. It is also significant because it provides practical implications for smart car security market growth and guides the formulation of effective security policies.

Home Internet of Things (IoT) services are expected to augment the efficiency and comfort of users’ daily lives; however, this expectation is eclipsed by concerns regarding privacy and vulnerability. While these concerns critically impact the acceptance of IoT services for the home, they have been discussed primarily from a traditional point of view; academic discussions of privacy and vulnerability in the current environment are lacking. This study extends existing privacy and vulnerability theories to demonstrate the importance of physical privacy and user vulnerability protections in home IoT environments. To validate the proposed research model, an empirical analysis was conducted on 265 samples with a partial least squares structural equation modeling technique. The differences in vulnerability factors, along with privacy concerns and resistance to home IoT services, were also compared by gender, experience, and type of housing. Results show that user vulnerability has the strongest impact on home IoT privacy concerns and resistance to home IoT environments. Additionally, this study found that personal factors appear differently across vulnerabilities, privacy concerns, and home IoT resistance. This study extends the traditional concepts of privacy and vulnerability to the home IoT environment.
The word “smart” has been used in various fields and is widely accepted to mean intelligence. Smart home service, one of the representative emerging technologies in the IoT era, has changed house ...equipment into being more intelligent, remote controllable, and interconnected. However, the intelligence and controllability of a smart home service are contradictory concepts, under certain aspects. In addition, the level of intelligence or controllability of a smart home service that users want may differ according to the user. As potential users of smart home services have diversified in recent years, providing the appropriate functions and features is critical to the diffusion of the service. Thus, this study examines the smart home service features that current users require and empirically evaluates the relationship between the critical factors and the adoption behavior with 216 samples from Korea. The moderating effect of personal characteristics on behavior is also tested. The results of the analysis provide various theoretical and practical implications.
With the development of artificial intelligence technology, the market for virtual personal assistant (VPA) devices is emerging as a new battleground for global information technology companies. This ...study develops a comprehensive research model, based on perceived value theory, to explain potential customers’ intentions to adopt and use VPA devices. It investigates the relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, and product-related characteristics (i.e., portability, automation, and visual attractiveness). The research model and hypotheses are evaluated through Partial least squares analysis, using 313 survey samples. The results show that perceived usefulness and enjoyment have a significant impact on usage intention. Among the three constructs reflecting software- and hardware-based utilitarian value, content quality has the strongest impact on perceived usefulness. From the perspective of hedonic value, content quality, which is also a utilitarian attribute of VPA devices, and visual attractiveness positively affect perceived enjoyment. This study concludes by discussing implications and offering useful suggestions for academia and practice.
As a new paradigm for experiencing virtual worlds, metaverses are beginning to gain traction as a new way to enjoy the performing arts. Additionally, as its feasibility as a new market for the ...distribution of performing arts has been confirmed, there have been various attempts to better enable audiences to experience performing arts in a metaverse. However, metaverse performing arts still require several improvements for active user participation and better enjoyment. It is also necessary to understand the barriers that people perceive in experiencing metaverse performing arts. Based on the construal level theory, this study explores and identifies the causal relationship in factors that influence viewing metaverse performing arts, such as the user's psychological distance, objective distance, subjective experience, and resistance. The results demonstrate that artistic distance is a significant factor that strongly affects resistance to viewing performances. Spatial, social, economic distance, and subject experience also impact resistance. The results also uncover the issues that must be discussed to vitalize metaverse-based performing arts.

This study aimed to shed light on how the perceived physical risk of COVID-19 influences users' decisions to adopt shared accommodation and office services. To discuss the effect, this paper proposed ...a new integrated research model based on the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and the technology acceptance model (TAM), with the constructs of trust and perceived physical risk. The data were collected from 402 respondents via an online survey. The results indicate that perceived physical risk is a clear antecedent that negatively affects TPB, TAM constructs, and trust, with a new integrated research model with high explanatory power. Interestingly, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use fully mediated the effect of perceived physical risk on attitude. Thus, this study empirically confirmed current users' concerns about COVID-19, which has reduced the use of sharing services, by operationally redefining perceived physical risk.

This study aimed to develop a comprehensive research model, and identify the factors that are positively associated with usage intention of remote smart city services. A theoretical model was developed based on the stimulus–organism–response framework, and the impact of stimulus and organism constructs on responses were investigated. A total of 376 survey responses were collected from two national pilot smart cities (Busan and Sejong) in South Korea, and partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed to test the hypotheses. Among the three stimuli factors, the citizens of Busan perceived the importance of ubiquity and autonomy most highly. However, the citizens of Sejong considered information exchange and ubiquity as crucial determinants of satisfaction. The findings revealed that the significant stimuli factors are not the same between smart cities, and there can be differences in the detailed attributes required in smart cities.
