A substance immunologically cross-reactive with insulin (SICRI) was isolated and purified from murine melanoma B16. Biochemical and biological data provide evidence that SICRI and insulin are two ...distinct biologically active agents. In vitro, SICRI has stimulated the DNA and protein synthesis, cell growth or colony-forming ability of 19 normal and transformed cell lines of human and rodent origin. It indicates that SICRI is a potent nonspecific growth factor. The most pronounced stimulatory effect of SICRI on proliferative capacity of cells is observed with cells at G0/G1 point of the cell cycle.
Human fibrosarcoma cells derived from a patient with multiple metastases extensively degrade artificial basement membranes (BM) and secrete interstitial type of collagenase, a proteolytic enzyme ...responsible for degradation of type I collagen. Exposure of invasive cell line to TGF beta abrogates destruction of BM.TGF beta reduces collagenase activity and stimulates specific metalloproteinase inhibitor (TIMP) in invasive tumor cells. We preassume that TGF beta could play a protective role in tumor invasion.
Acute (50.0 mg/kg) and repeated (0.1-10.0 mg/kg) administration of dihydroergosine (DHESN) to rats over 5 days lowered the concentration of 5-HIAA in the brain. DHESN given acutely increased the ...brain 5-HT in p-CPA-treated animals and diminished the probenecid-induced increase in brain 5-HIAA. In pargyline-treated rats DHESN enhanced the 5-HT/5-HIAA ratio. DHESN administered to rats repeatedly over 5 days decreased the level of 5-HT in blood platelets, and in vitro at concentrations of 10(-4) M and 10(-3) M inhibited the uptake of 14C-5-HT in platelets. DHESN (10.0-100.0 mg/kg) potentiated the 5-HT syndrome produced in rats by pargyline and 5-HTP. This potentiation was blocked with cyproheptadine but not with haloperidol. DHESN (1.0 and 10.0 mg/kg) lowered the locomotor activity of rats and 10.0 mg/kg DHESN also reduced the duration of immobility in rats forced to swim in a restricted space. The results indicate that DHESN, like antidepressants, decreases the turnover of serotonin in the brain and potentiates the 5-HT-mediated behaviour. This might suggest that the drug should be further investigated for its potential antidepressive properties.
Svrha ovoga rada bila je prikazati nastanak odontogenih keratocista (OKC) i keratocistama sličnih lezija u oboljelih od Gorlin-Goltzova sindroma s obzirom na dob i spol bolesnika te na mjesto ...nastanka OKC-a (donja čeljust, gornja čeljust, meka tkiva i maksilarni sinusi). Od godine 1965. do 1998. u 30 je bolesnika s Gorlin-Goltzovim sindromom ustanovljeno 58 OKC-a koji su potvrđeni i histopatološkom dijagnozom. Bolesnici su bili u dobi od 10 do 90 godina, prosječne dobi 33,71. Prosječna dob muških bolesnika bila je 35,53 godina života, a ženskih 31,12 godina života. OKC je u sklopu Gorlin-Goltzova sindroma češće dijagnosticiran u muškaraca (58,62%) nego u (41,38%). Najčešća dob u kojoj je OKC nađen u bolesnika s Gorlin-Goltzovim sindromom bila je između 21. i 30. godine. S obzirom na lokalizaciju, većina OKC-a nalazila se u donjoj čeljusti (60,34%), zatim u gornjoj čeljusti (15,52%), u mekim tkvima (13,79%) te u maksilarnim sinusima (10,34%).
