Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the world. Schizandrin B (Sch B) is one of the main dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans present in the fruit of Schisandra chinensis (Schisandraceae). ...Sch B has multiple functions against cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Sch B on the proliferation, cell cycling, apoptosis and invasion of lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells by MTT, flow cytometry, wound healing and transwell invasion assays. Treatment with Sch B inhibited the proliferation of A549 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Sch B induced cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase by down-regulating the expression of cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK)4, and CDK6, but up-regulating p53 and p21 expression in A549 cells. Furthermore, Sch B triggered A549 cell apoptosis by increasing Bax, cleaved caspase-3, 9, Cyto C, but decreasing Bcl-2 and PCNA expression. In addition, Sch B inhibited the invasion and migration of A549 cells by down-regulating the expressions of HIF-1, VEGF, MMP-9 and MMP-2. Therefore, Sch B has potent anti-tumor activity and may be a promising traditional Chinese medicine for human lung carcinoma.
We have analytically studied the magnetization dynamics in magnetic trilayers with perpendicular anisotropy for both free and pinned layers. By linear stability analysis, we obtain the phase diagram ...parameterized by the current, magnetic field and relative strength of the field-like spin torque to Slonczewski torque. Under the control of the current and external magnetic field, several magnetic states, such as quasi-parallel and quasi-antiparallel stable states, out-of-plane precession, and bistable states can be realized. The precession frequency can be expressed as a function of the current and external magnetic field. In addition, the presence of field-like spin torque can change the switching current and precession frequency.
► The phase diagram is obtained by linear stability analysis. ► The precession frequency can be controlled by the current and magnetic field. ► Field-like spin torque can change instability current and precession frequency.
Annular pancreas (AP) is a rare congenital abnormal rotation of the pancreas. AP rarely occurs in adults. Pancreatic tumors and ampullary tumors are related to AP, so the discovery and treatment of ...AP are essential.
This study investigated the clinical manifestations, imaging features, complications, and treatment of six patients diagnosed with AP at the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, First Hospital of Jilin University from January 2010 to June 2020. There were four males and two females, with an average age of 56.00 ± 9.86 years old. In this study, abdominal pain and jaundice were the main clinical manifestations. Imaging can show the "crocodile jaw sign" or "double bubble sign".
For patients with duodenal or biliary obstruction, physicians should give priority to AP when imaging examinations suggest that the duodenum is wrapped with tissue similar to the density of the pancreas. Symptomatic patients should actively undergo surgical treatment.
One dimensional ferroelectric nanostructure is noteworthy for their size-dependent dielectric, piezoelectric, and electro-optic properties with corresponding applications in smart devices such as ...transducers, actuators, and high-k dielectrics at the nanoscale. Due to their extremely small size and anisotropy, the control of nucleation and growth of one dimensional nanostructure materials is still a big challenge. Sol–gel-hydrothermal chemistry combines both the merits of sol–gel and hydrothermal technique, which offers a very useful tool for low-temperature synthesis of the ferroelectric nanowires. In this paper, we will review recent works devoted to the synthesis of Bi-based complex perovskite nanowires, i.e. Na

systems. We will focus on the formation mechanism and morphology evolution of nanowires prepared in sol–gel-hydrothermal process. Moreover, due to the good sinterability of the nanowires, the high-densified single-phase ceramic can be fabricated even by a conventional sintering process.
The antennal sensilla of Myzus persicae were mapped using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Placoid sensilla and coeloconic sensilla were found on the 6th segments, whereas 2 types of ...trichoid sensilla were present all through the length of the antenna. A single sensillum placoideum was located on the 5th segment, whereas alate aphids also presented placoid sensilla on the 3rd antennal segment. Immunocytochemical localization of odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) was performed on ultrathin sections of antennal chemosensilla. The antiserum against OBP7 intensively labeled all placoid sensilla from both primary and secondary rhinaria, with gold granules concentrated in the lymph surrounding the dendrite. OBP6 and OBP3 could also be detected in placoid sensilla, but less strongly than OBP7. Barely significant reaction or no reaction was observed with antibodies against OBP8.
Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a severe life-threatening complication. Liver transplantation is the only available therapeutic option; however, several limitations have restricted its use ...in patients. The use of corticosteroids as an optional therapy for ACLF has received a great deal of interest. The rationale behind its use is the possible role of the immune system in initiating and perpetuating hepatic damage. In order to assess the relationship between myeloid dendritic cells (mDCs) and the efficacy of methylprednisolone (MP) treatment for hepatitis B virus (H BV)-associated ACLF patients, we recruited 30 HBV-associated ACLF patients who had received MP treatment at lO-day intervals; 26 patients received conservative medical (CM) management as a control. The functionality of DC subsets was lower in these ACLF patients compared with healthy subjects. In addition, compared with survivors, dead/transplanted patients had lower functional mDC in both groups. Furthermore, a decreased numbers of mDC at baseline was associated with high mortality of ACLF patients. Importantly, MP treatment resulted in a significant decrease in 28-day mortality, and all MP patients exhibited an initial rapid decrease in circulating mDC numbers within 10 days of MP treatment. Subsequently, MP survivors displayed a continuous increase in mDC numbers accompanied by a decrease in total bilirubin levels by more than 30%. However, MP dead/ transplanted patients lacked these sequential responses compared with survivors. This evidence suggests strongly that the higher mDC numbers at baseline and the recovery of mDC number at the end of treatment may represent a prognostic marker for favorable response to corticosteroid treatment in ACLF patients.
In this study, we characterized the intratumoral expression of IL-17 and CD8(+) TILs in gastric adenocarcinoma patients after resection and determined the correlation between the survival probability ...of gastric adenocarcinoma patients and the expression of IL-17 in tumor. Expression of IL-17 and CD8 was assessed by immunohistochemistry, and the prognostic effects of intratumoral IL-17 expression and CD8(+) TILs were evaluated by Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier analysis. Immunohistochemical detection revealed the presence of IL-17 and CD8(+) cells in gastric adenocarcinoma tissue samples (90.6%, 174 out of 192 patients and 96.9%, 186 out of 192 patients, respectively). We have also found that intratumoral IL-17 expression was significantly correlated with age (p=0.004) and that the number of CD8(+)TILs was significantly correlated with UICC staging (p=0.012) and the depth of tumor invasion (p=0.022). The five-year overall survival probability among patients intratumorally expressing higher levels of IL-17 was significantly better than those expressing lower levels of IL-17 (p=0.036). Multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses revealed that intratumoral IL-17 expression (HR: 0.521; 95% CI: 0.329-0.823; p=0.005) was an independent factor affecting the five-year overall survival probability. We conclude that low levels of intratumoral IL-17 expression may indicate poor prognosis in gastric adenocarcinoma patients.
