Major depressive disorder (MDD) is one of the most common mental disorders. We designed a fast-onset antidepressant that works by disrupting the interaction between the serotonin transporter (SERT) ...and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN). Chronic unpredictable mild stress (CMS) selectively increased the SERT-nNOS complex in the DRN in mice. Augmentation of SERT-nNOS interactions in the DRN caused a depression-like phenotype and accounted for the CMS-induced depressive behaviors. Disrupting the SERT-nNOS interaction produced a fast-onset antidepressant effect by enhancing serotonin signaling in forebrain circuits. We discovered a small-molecule compound, ZZL-7, that elicited an antidepressant effect 2 hours after treatment without undesirable side effects. This compound, or analogous reagents, may serve as a new, rapidly acting treatment for MDD.
Aim
This study investigated the relationship between work engagement and inclusive leadership in Chinese hospital head nurses. Besides, it explored the effect of the mediating role of inclusive ...leadership in the relationship between work engagement and innovative behaviour among Chinese hospital head nurses.
Background
Head nurses are essential in the group of registered nurses who are to pass the Chinese licensure examination for nurses. Their work engagement and innovative behaviour are beneficial to improve the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of nursing services. However, little is known about the mediating role of inclusive leadership in the relationship between work engagement and innovative behaviour.
Methods
In April 2018, a total of 374 Chinese head nurses were surveyed with a Work Engagement Scale, an Inclusive Leadership Scale and an Innovative Behavior Scale. Because the data were normally distributed in our study, Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) was used to conduct the correlation analysis of study variables. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the factors of innovative behaviour. Model 4 of Hayes's (2013) PROCESS macro and Bootstrap method was used to examine the mediating role of inclusive leadership.
Result
Inclusive leadership was significantly and positively correlated to innovative behaviour and work engagement (p < 0.01). Moreover, work engagement was correlated with innovative behaviour (p < 0.01). In addition, hospital level, publishing papers, work engagement and inclusive leadership were the factors of head nurses’ innovative behaviour (p < 0.01). Inclusive leadership partially mediated the relationship between work engagement and innovative behaviour, accordingly.
Conclusion
Work engagement affects innovative behaviour among Chinese head nurses, and inclusive leadership is a mediator in the relationship. We should take measures to improve the leaders’ level of inclusive leadership, in order to strengthen head nurses’ innovative behaviour.
Implications for nursing management
According to the results of the study, the leaders of head nurses should pay attention to improve head nurses’ innovative behaviour, inclusive leadership, work engagement, and the quality and competitiveness of nursing.
Bacteria‐Responsive Multifunctional Nanogel: We developed a bacteria‐responsive multifunctional nanogel for targeted antibiotic delivery, in which bacterial enzymes are utilized to trigger antibiotic ...release by degrading the polyphosphoester core. The mannosylated nanogel preferentially delivers drugs to macrophages and leads to drug accumulation at bacterial infection sites through macrophage transport. This nanogel provides macrophage targeting and lesion site‐activatable drug release properties, which enhances bacterial growth inhibition.

Globally, the incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) is increasing year by year, causing a huge economic and social burden, and their pathogenesis and aetiology have been ...proven to have a certain correlation. In recent years, more and more studies have shown that vacuolar adenosine triphosphatases (v‐ATPases) in eukaryotes, which are biomolecules regulating lysosomal acidification and glycolipid metabolism, play a key role in DM and AD. This article describes the role of v‐ATPase in DM and AD, including its role in glycolysis, insulin secretion and insulin resistance (IR), as well as its relationship with lysosomal acidification, autophagy and β‐amyloid (Aβ). In DM, v‐ATPase is involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism and IR. v‐ATPase is closely related to glycolysis. On the one hand, v‐ATPase affects the rate of glycolysis by affecting the secretion of insulin and changing the activities of key glycolytic enzymes hexokinase (HK) and phosphofructokinase 1 (PFK‐1). On the other hand, glucose is the main regulator of this enzyme, and the assembly and activity of v‐ATPase depend on glucose, and glucose depletion will lead to its decomposition and inactivation. In addition, v‐ATPase can also regulate free fatty acids, thereby improving IR. In AD, v‐ATPase can not only improve the abnormal brain energy metabolism by affecting lysosomal acidification and autophagy but also change the deposition of Aβ by affecting the production and degradation of Aβ. Therefore, v‐ATPase may be the bridge between DM and AD.
Stimuli‐responsive nanoporous materials represent a newly emerging category of functional materials, for which instant and significant response behavior is strongly demanded but still challenging. ...Herein, a new kind of conjugated poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) synthesized via a simple one‐pot spontaneous nucleophilic substitution and polymerization between 4,4'‐vinylenedipyridine and propargyl bromide is reported. A nanoporous membrane actuator is further developed via ionic complexation between the current PIL and trimesic acid. The actuator carries a gradient density in the hydrophobicity content along the membrane cross‐section, which results in a fast response to moisture.
Conjugated poly(ionic liquid)s with a polyacetylene backbone is synthesized simply by mixing 4,4'‐vinylenedipyridine and propargyl bromide under mild conditions. The as‐prepared polymer A‐TFSI exhibits reversible solid‐to‐gel conversion with an increase in temperature. Furthermore, the A‐TFSI‐based nanoporous membrane exhibits a fast response to moisture and large‐scale displacement, which shows great capability for biomimetic movements and interfacing with biological environments.
Atmospheric aerosols have a tremendous influence on visibility, climate, and human health. New particle formation (NPF) is a crucial source of atmospheric aerosols. At present, certain field ...observations and experiments have discovered the presence of 3-hydroxy-4,4-dimethylglutaric acid (HDMGA), which may participate in NPF events. However, the nucleation mechanism of HDMGA has not been clearly understood. In addition, dimethylamine (DMA) is an important precursor of nucleation. The nucleation mechanism involving HDMGA and DMA has not been studied. In this study, the most stable structures of (HDMGA)(H2O)n (n = 0-3) and (HDMGA)(DMA)(H2O)n (n = 0-3) were obtained by using M06-2X coupled with the 6-311++G(3df,3pd) basis set. The α-carboxyl group is directly attached to the amino group in all the most stable configurations. Proton transfer enhances the strength of a hydrogen bond, as well as promotes the generation of a global minimum structure. Temperature has a considerable influence on the distribution of isomers for (HDMGA)(DMA)(H2O)3 as compared to the other investigated clusters. The Gibbs free energy values reveal that most of the clusters can exist in NPF, except for (HDMGA)(H2O)1. The process of adding a cluster of (H2O)n more likely occurs in the atmosphere than gradually adding a single water molecule.
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated systemic disease with associated comorbidities, including metabolic syndrome (MetS) which contributes substantially to premature mortality in patients with psoriasis. ...However, the pathological mechanisms underlying this comorbidity are unclear. Studies have shown that the pathological parameters of psoriasis mediate the development of MetS. We reviewed the potential mechanisms which mediate the association between psoriasis and MetS, including endoplasmic reticulum stress, pro-inflammatory cytokine releases, excess production of reactive oxygen species, alterations in adipocytokine levels and gut microbiota dysbiosis. Here, we highlight important research questions regarding this association and offer insights into MetS research and treatment.
The role of Fat Mass and Obesity-associated protein (FTO) and its substrate N6-methyladenosine (m6A) in mRNA processing and adipogenesis remains largely unknown. We show that FTO expression and m6A ...levels are inversely correlated during adipogenesis. FTO depletion blocks differentiation and only catalytically active FTO restores adi- pogenesis. Transcriptome analyses in combination with m6A-seq revealed that gene expression and mRNA splicing of grouped genes are regulated by FTO. M6A is enriched in exonic regions flanking 5'- and 3'-splice sites, spatially over- lapping with mRNA splicing regulatory serine/arginine-rich (SR) protein exonic splicing enhancer binding regions. Enhanced levels of m6A in response to FTO depletion promotes the RNA binding ability of SRSF2 protein, leading to increased inclusion of target exons. FTO controls exonic splicing of adipogenie regulatory factor RUNX1T1 by regulating m6A levels around splice sites and thereby modulates differentiation. These findings provide compelling evidence that FTO-dependent m6A demethylation functions as a novel regulatory mechanism of RNA processing and plays a critical role in the regulation of adipogenesis.

Moreover, the ...metallogel exhibits reversible stimuli-responsive properties. The gel could respond to at least four kinds of stimuli such as light, aliphatic amines, electricity and metals with color and fluorescence tunability. Importantly, the metallogel with electrochromic properties could be used as soft electrochromic devices for smart windows and electro display boards, and metalchromism provides a practical way for coating corrosion monitoring of metal materials.
