An assessment and verification of the Langley calibration method of the Sun photometer at Mt Foyeding (MFYD) Observatory in Beijing was performed. We explored whether the Langley plot calibration is ...practicable for this mountainous site by analyzing the aerosol climatology and carrying out a case study. Then, the aerosol optical depth (AOD) results were verified under the reference of AERONET AOD. The results showed that satisfactory atmospheric conditions are present on winter mornings, characterized by a smaller average AOD (~0.09–0.14) and a lower range ratio (~36.97–63.38%) than in the afternoons and over a whole day. The six days selected as the case study all showed stable atmospheric conditions characterized by daily average triplets of <2% for all wavelengths. The residual sum of squares for V0λ at all wavelengths was <0.0002 and the residual standard deviation was <0.2%. A large improvement was found in the linear regression at morning relative to the statistics obtained over the whole day, when the coefficient of determination and residual standard deviation were promoted by 0.22–2.90% and ~2.76–23.32, respectively. The final V0λ value was derived from 31 days of observation and the deviations from the reference V0λ were about −1.69, −1.29, −0.81, −0.42, −0.34, −0.22, −0.63 and −0.36% at 340, 380, 440, 500, 675, 870, 1020 and 1640 nm, respectively. The regression analysis of the AOD validation showed a perfect AOD performance, with 100% of the retrievals lying within the expected error (0.05 ± 10%) from 380 to 1640 nm and 99.99% for the 340 nm band. Good AOD agreement (correlation coefficients > 0.998) and residual standard deviation values ranging from ~0.006 to 0.011 were observed, with the relative mean bias varying from 0.999 to 1.066. The mean biases were concentrated within ±0.02 for the ultraviolet bands and within ±0.01 for the other bands; therefore, the results of this preliminary assessment and verification indicated that the Langley plots method is suitable for photometer calibration at the MFYD Observatory.

Aims
Mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) is a simple and reliable index for evaluating left ventricular (LV) systolic function, particularly in patients with poor image quality; ...however, the lack of reference values limits its widespread use. This study aimed to establish the normal ranges for MAPSE measured using motion-mode (M-mode) and two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) and to explore its principal determinants.
Methods and results
This multicentre, prospective, cross-sectional study included 1952 healthy participants 840 men (43%); age range, 18–80 years from 55 centres. MAPSE was measured using M-mode echocardiography and 2D-STE. The results showed that women had a higher MAPSE than men and MAPSE decreased with age. The age- and sex-specific reference values for MAPSE were established for these two methods. Multiple linear regression analyses revealed that MAPSE on M-mode echocardiography correlated with age and MAPSE on 2D-STE with age, blood pressure (BP), heart rate, and LV volume. Moreover, MAPSE measured by 2D-STE correlated more strongly with global longitudinal strain compared with that measured using M-mode echocardiography.
Conclusion
Normal MAPSE reference values were established based on age and sex. BP, heart rate, and LV volume are potential factors that influence MAPSE and should be considered in clinical practice. Normal values are useful for evaluating LV longitudinal systolic function, especially in patients with poor image quality, and may further facilitate the use of MAPSE in routine assessments.

strain P6 was isolated and identified. The novel arginase PMA from the strain was heterologously expressed, purified, and then conjugated to CMCS by ionic gelation with calcium chloride as the crosslinking agent. Enzymological properties of both PMA and CMCS-PMA conjugate were determined. The optimum temperature for PMA and CMCS-PMA at pH 7 were 60 °C and 55 °C, respectively. The optimum pH for PMA and CMCS-PMA at 37 °C were pH 10 and 9, respectively. CMCS-PMA showed higher thermostability than PMA over 55–70 °C and higher pH stability over pH 4–11 with the highest pH stability at pH 7. At 37 °C and pH of 7, i.e., around the human blood temperature and pH, CMCS-PMA was higher than the free PMA in enzymatic activity and stability by 24% and 21%, respectively. CMCS conjugation not only changed the optimum temperature, optimum pH, and enzymatic activity of PMA, but also improved its pH stability and temperature stability, and thus made it more favorable for medical application.
Neratinib, an irreversible inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor and human epidermal receptor 2, is in phase III clinical trials for patients with human epidermal receptor 2-positive, locally ...advanced or metastatic breast cancer. The objective of this study was to explore the ability of neratinib to reverse tumor multidrug resistance attributable to overexpression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. Our results showed that neratinib remarkably enhanced the sensitivity of ABCB1-overexpressing cells to ABCB1 substrates. It is noteworthy that neratinib augmented the effect of chemotherapeutic agents in inhibiting the growth of ABCB1-overexpressing primary leukemia blasts and KBv200 cell xenografts in nude mice. Furthermore, neratinib increased doxorubicin accumulation in ABCB1-overexpressing cell lines and Rhodamine 123 accumulation in ABCB1-overexpressing cell lines and primary leukemia blasts. Neratinib stimulated the ATPase activity of ABCB1 at low concentrations but inhibited it at high concentrations. Likewise, neratinib inhibited the photolabeling of ABCB1 with (125)Iiodoarylazidoprazosin in a concentration-dependent manner (IC(50) = 0.24 μM). Neither the expression of ABCB1 at the mRNA and protein levels nor the phosphorylation of Akt was affected by neratinib at reversal concentrations. Docking simulation results were consistent with the binding conformation of neratinib within the large cavity of the transmembrane region of ABCB1, which provides computational support for the cross-reactivity of tyrosine kinase inhibitors with human ABCB1. In conclusion, neratinib can reverse ABCB1-mediated multidrug resistance in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo by inhibiting its transport function.

Hepatocarcinogenesis is a complex process that may be influenced by many factors, including polymorphism in microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH). Previous work suggests an association between the ...Tyr113His and His139Arg mEH polymorphisms and susceptibility to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the results have been inconsistent.
PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar and the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were systematically searched to identify relevant studies. A meta-analysis was performed to examine the association between Tyr113His and His139Arg mEH polymorphism and susceptibility to HCC. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated.
Eleven studies were included in the meta-analysis, involving 1,696 HCC cases and 3,600 controls. The 113His- mEH allele was significantly associated with increased risk of HCC based on allelic contrast (OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.04-1.75, p = 0.02), homozygote comparison (OR = 1.65, 95% CI = 1.07-2.54, p = 0.02) and a recessive genetic model (OR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.21-1.96, p<0.001), while individuals carrying the Arg139Arg mEH genotype had no association with increased or decreased risk of HCC.
The 113His- allele polymorphism in mEH may be a risk factor for hepatocarcinogenesis, while the mEH 139Arg- allele may not be a risk or protective factor. There is substantial evidence that mEH polymorphisms interact synergistically with other genes and the environment to modulate risk of HCC. Further large and well-designed studies are needed to confirm these conclusions.

This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms of Yu-Ping-Feng-San (YPFS) on attenuating allergic inflammation in the initial stage of atopic dermatitis (AD). AD mouse model was established with ...fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) sensitization and elicitation. Epithelial barrier structure was observed with transmission electron microscope. The populations of dendritic cells (DCs) and group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) were detected by flow cytometry. Human immortalized keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells were stimulated with Poly(I:C)/TNF-α in vitro to assessthymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), interleukin (IL)-33 and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) levels or expressions by immunofluorescence, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and western blot. In the initial stage of AD, ear swelling and infiltration of inflammatory cells in ear tissues were markedly attenuated with YPFS treatments. The damaged structures of ear epithelium and the increased levels of Th2-cytokines induced by FITC were significantly rescued in YPFS-treated mice. The production of pro-allergic cytokines, TSLP and IL-33, as well as the cell populations of their target cells DCs and ILC2s were decreased in AD model, respectively. Likewise, the levels of TSLP and IL-33 in Poly(I:C)/TNF-α-stimulated HaCaT cells showed the same results. Lower levels of p-NF-κB were detected with YPFS treatment, and the expressions of TSLP and IL-33 could be further decreased with inhibiting of NF-κB. Therefore, YPFS attenuates allergic inflammation in the initial stage of AD probably through regulating NF-κB-TSLP/IL-33 pathway, which may provide a novel effective target for the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases.
