Recently, chromatographic fingerprinting has become one of the most powerful approaches to quality control of herbal medicines. However, the performance of reported chromatographic fingerprinting ...constructed by single chromatogram sometimes turns out to be inadequate for complex herbal medicines, such as multi-herb botanical drug products. In this study, multiple chromatographic fingerprinting, which consists of more than one chromatographic fingerprint and represents the whole characteristics of chemical constitutions of the complex medicine, is proposed as a potential strategy in this complicated case. As a typical example, a binary chromatographic fingerprinting of “
Danshen Dropping Pill” (
DSDP), the best-sold traditional Chinese medicine in China, was developed. First, two HPLC fingerprints that, respectively, represent chemical characteristics of depsides and saponins of
DSDP were developed, which were used to construct binary chromatographic fingerprints of
DSDP. Moreover, the authentication and validation of the binary fingerprints were performed. Then, a data-level information fusion method was employed to capture the chemical information encoded in two chromatographic fingerprints. Based on the fusion results, the lot-to-lot consistency and frauds can be determined either using similarity measure or by chemometrics approach. The application of binary chromatographic fingerprinting to consistency assessment and frauds detection of
DSDP clearly demonstrated that the proposed method was a powerful approach to quality control of complex herbal medicines.
Epidemiologic investigations showed that 2 of 4 patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) identified in the winter of 2003-2004 were a waitresss at a restaurant in Guangzhou, China, that ...served palm civets as food and a customer who ate in the restaurant ashort distance from animal cages. All 6 palm civets at the restaurant were positive for SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Partial spike (S) gene sequences of SARS-CoV from the 2 patients were identical to 4 of 5 Sgene viral sequences from palm civets. Phylogenetic analysis showed that SARS-CoV from palm civets in the restaurant was most closely related to animal isolates. SARS cases at the restaurant were the result of recent interspecies transfer from the putative palm civet reservoir, and not the result of continued circulation of SARS-CoV in the human population.

We also extract upper limits on the branching fractions for q(3770) decays into these final states at 90% C.L. Analyzed data samples correspond to 17.3 pb super(-1) and 6.5 pb super(-1) integrated luminosities registered, respectively, at $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ and 3.65 GeV, with the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider.
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a principal regulator of blood vessel formation and haematopoiesis, but the mechanisms by which VEGF differentially regulates these processes have been ...elusive. Here we describe a regulatory loop by which VEGF controls survival of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). We observed a reduction in survival, colony formation and in vivo repopulation rates of HSCs after ablation of the VEGF gene in mice. Intracellularly acting small-molecule inhibitors of VEGF receptor (VEGFR) tyrosine kinase dramatically reduced colony formation of HSCs, thus mimicking deletion of the VEGF gene. However, blocking VEGF by administering a soluble VEGFR-1, which acts extracellularly, induced only minor effects. These findings support the involvement in HSC survival of a VEGF-dependent internal autocrine loop mechanism (that is, the mechanism is resistant to inhibitors that fail to penetrate the intracellular compartment). Not only ligands selective for VEGF and VEGFR-2 but also VEGFR-1 agonists rescued survival and repopulation of VEGF-deficient HSCs, revealing a function for VEGFR-1 signalling during haematopoiesis.

Abstract Using annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 taken at the center-of-mass energy GeV with the BESIII detector, a joint amplitude analysis is performed on the ...decays and (non- η ). The fit fractions of individual components are obtained, and large interferences among the dominant components of the decays , , , and are observed in both channels. With the obtained amplitude model, the -even fractions of and (non- η ) are determined to be % and %, respectively. The branching fractions of and (non- η ) are measured to be % and %, respectively. The amplitude analysis provides an important model for the binning strategy in measuring the strong phase parameters of when used to determine the CKM angle via the decay.
The dependence of angular distributions of fast electrons generated in the interaction of p-polarized femtosecond laser pulses with foil targets on laser intensities is investigated. A novel fast ...electron beam along the front target surface is observed for high laser intensity. It is found that the electron acceleration along the target surface is more efficient than those in other directions.
A quantitative damage model of ceramic coating systems was developed based on their load-displacement curves obtained from three-point bending tests. According to the energy mechanism of damage, the ...normalized damage rate of such systems can be simply expressed using the load and the tangent slope of their load-displacement curves. The experimental results demonstrated the thickness dependence of fracture and damage. In thin coating systems, tensile failure was found to be predominant and multiple transverse cracks appeared in the coatings. In contrast, thick coating systems showed a predominance of interface shear failure and the occurrence of interface delamination. These observations are consistent with previous experimental results. The damage of the systems displayed catastrophic characteristics when the load tended to reach the failure point, i.e., the damage increased rapidly, and the damage rate displayed a power-law singularity at the failure point. These results are consistent with the damage characteristics predicted using the mathematic model. The damage evolution in the case of interface delamination in the thick coating systems was faster than that for transverse cracking in the thin coatings because of the difference in the degree of damage localization. The present model provides an effective method to elucidate the damage behavior of brittle ceramic coating systems, and hence, it is expected to greatly aid the coating design.
Ductal carcinoma in situ within a breast fibroadenoma is a rare malignancy with an incidence of only 0.02-0.125%. Imaging of low-grade ductal carcinoma in situ within a breast fibroadenoma shows no ...specific presentation. Therefore, pathology and immunohistochemistry are required for definitive diagnosis. Surgery is currently considered to be an effective treatment. There is no uniform clinical standard for postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy.
A 60-year-old female patient underwent excisional biopsy on October 19, 2022. Pathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis of low-grade ductal carcinoma in situ within the fibroadenoma. Subsequently, breast-conserving surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy were performed under general anesthesia with tracheal intubation, and no cancer metastasis was observed in the sentinel lymph nodes or incisional margins.
Low-grade ductal carcinoma in situ within a breast fibroadenoma is an extremely rare malignancy, and clinicians should be familiar with its clinicopathological features and treatment methods. Multidisciplinary joint treatment is recommended to maximize the benefits to patients.
