sarcoidosis is a multisystemic disease in which naked granulomas are present. Its etiology is unknown and diagnosis requires demonstration of naked granulomas in more than two organs and the ...exclusion of other pathologies. One third of patients have skin involvement. Sarcoidosis rarely affects Mexican patients.
40 year-old female patient who received a complete scheme treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis suspicion previously. She presented several months before, a hypo-pigmented, alopecic and atrophic patch in the frontal scalp with papular and erythematous edge, as well as cough, shortness of breath, neuropathy and cardiac dysfunction. Lymph node and skin biopsy showed the presence of sarcoidal granulomas.
sarcoidosis is a systemic disease that rarely affects Mexican patients. Skin lesions are usually unspecific but biopsy helps confirm diagnosis in patients who present also affection of other organs.

The high spatial (~250 nm) and high mass resolution (m/Δm ~10,000) of TOF-SIMS permitted the localization and identification of the intact, unlabeled drug molecular ion (

) as well as characteristic fragment ions. We propose a novel approach based on the inspection of the drug secondary ion yield, which showed a good correlation with the drug concentration during cell treatment at therapeutic dosages (0–200 μM with 4 h incubation). Chemical maps using endogenous molecular markers showed that the ABT-737 is mainly localized in subsurface regions and absent in the nucleus. A semiquantitative workflow is proposed to account for the biological cell diversity based on the spatial distribution of endogenous molecular markers (e.g., nuclei and cytoplasm) and secondary ion confirmation based on the ratio of drug-specific fragments to molecular ion as a function of the therapeutic dosage.

The occurrence and molecular diversity of the stramenopile eukaryote Blastocystis sp. was investigated by PCR and sequencing (Sanger and NGS) methods in 380 faecal specimens of free‐living carnivores ...in Spain. Blastocystis sp. was confirmed in 1.6% (6/380) of the specimens analysed. Two samples from a common genet and a fox were successfully subtyped as ST7 by Sanger. Using NGS, ST14 was found in a fox and a European polecat, ST7 in a fox, and two additional foxes presented mixed infections of ST1/ST2/ST4 and ST1/ST2/ST7, respectively. Wild carnivore species could act as carriers of zoonotic Blastocystis subtypes.
Synthetic vitamin E is commonly used in aquafeeds to prevent oxidative stress in fish and delay feed and flesh oxidation during storage, but consumers' preferences tend towards natural antioxidant ...sources. The potential of vegetable antioxidants-rich coproducts, dried tomato (TO), carrot (CA) and coriander (CO) was compared to that of synthetic vitamin E included in diets at either a regular (CTRL; 100 mg kg
) or reinforced dose (VITE; 500 mg kg
). Natural antioxidants were added at 2% to the CTRL. Mixes were then extruded and dried, generating five experimental diets that were fed to European sea bass juveniles (114 g) over 12 weeks. Vitamin E and carotenoid content of extruded diets showed signs of degradation. The experimental diets had very limited effects on fish growth or body composition, immunomodulatory response, muscle and liver antioxidant potential, organoleptic properties or consumer acceptance. Altogether, experimental findings suggest that neither a heightened inclusion dose of 500 mg kg
of vitamin E, nor a 2% inclusion of natural antioxidants provided additional antioxidant protection, compared to fish fed diets including the regular dose of 100 mg kg
of vitamin E.
This article aims to discuss the expectations of Homosexual Men, Bisexual Men and a Transgender Woman, who use or want to use an oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the human immunodeficiency ...virus (HIV) about PrEP modalities. Sixteen PrEP users, who are followed up in the BCN Checkpoint, were interviewed,. The interviews were audio-recorded, subjected to thematic categorical analysis within the theoretical framework from the praxiographic perspective. They are all adapted to the use of daily oral and event-based PrEP. In relation to the new PrEP modalities (monthly pill; intramuscular injection every two months; subcutaneous injection every six months), they are all very receptive to these possibilities, but they lack information on the specificities of each and specific assessment of their needs. Comments about the use of oral PrEP are positive, and expectations regarding the new PrEP modalities are visibly high. However, the most important thing for the interviewees is the guarantee that they will have follow-up appointments to continue taking care of their affective-sexual health, which is not dependent on the type of PrEP modalities.

Lectins are glycan-binding receptors that recognize glycan epitopes on foreign pathogens and in the host systems. They can be involved in functions that include innate immunity, development, immune ...regulation and homeostasis. Several lectins have been purified and characterized from fish species. In this work, using cation-exchange chromatography, a galactose-specific lectin belonging to the family of C-type lectins was isolated from the venom of the Brazilian venomous fish Thalassophryne nattereri. Nattectin is a basic, non-glycosilated, 15 kDa monomeric protein. It exhibits hemagglutination activity that is independent of Ca2+. We also demonstrated a lectin activity for Nattectin in the innate immune system, especially in neutrophil mobilization in mice, indicating that marine organisms are source of immunomodulator agents.
► Fish lectins have been extensively described within tissues and cells associated with host defensive functions. ► Few reports describe the isolation of C-type lectins in venom of venomous fish. ► In this work we isolated and characterized a galactose-specific lectin, Nattectin in the venom of Brazilian venomous fish, that is known by the severity of the accidents provoked in fishermen and bathers. ► Nattectin is a basic, non-glycosilated, 15 kDa monomeric protein that exhibits hemagglutination activity that is independent of Ca2+. ► We also demonstrated a lectin activity for Nattectin in the innate immune system, especially in neutrophil mobilization in mice, indicating that marine organisms are source of immunomodulator agents.
