Summary
The present guideline summarizes all aspects of patch testing for the diagnosis of contact allergy in patients suspected of suffering, or having been suffering, from allergic contact ...dermatitis or other delayed‐type hypersensitivity skin and mucosal conditions. Sections with brief descriptions and discussions of different pertinent topics are followed by a highlighted short practical recommendation. Topics comprise, after an introduction with important definitions, materials, technique, modifications of epicutaneous testing, individual factors influencing the patch test outcome or necessitating special considerations, children, patients with occupational contact dermatitis and drug eruptions as special groups, patch testing of materials brought in by the patient, adverse effects of patch testing, and the final evaluation and patient counselling based on this judgement. Finally, short reference is made to aspects of (continuing) medical education and to electronic collection of data for epidemiological surveillance.
It has been emphasized that future studies aimed at improving adherence to infection prevention guidelines should focus on beliefs in, e.g., self-efficacy. Reliable situation specific measures are ...needed to measure the phenomenon of self-efficacy, but there seems to be few valid scales available that are suitable for measuring one's belief in self-efficacy regarding infection prevention measures. The purpose of the study was to develop a unidimensional appraisal scale to capture nurses' beliefs in their abilities to practice medical asepsis in care situations. When creating the items, evidence-based guidelines for preventing healthcare-associated infections were used together with Bandura's guide for constructing self-efficacy scales. Face validity, content validity, and concurrent validity were tested in various samples of the target population. Furthermore, dimensionality was evaluated on data collected from 525 registered nurses and licensed practical nurses recruited from the medical, surgical, and orthopaedic wards of 22 Swedish hospitals. The Infection Prevention Appraisal Scale (IPAS) consists of 14 items. Face and content validity were endorsed by target population representatives. The exploratory factor analysis suggested unidimensionality, and the internal consistency was good (Cronbach's alpha 0.83). The total scale score correlated with the General Self-Efficacy Scale, as expected, and supported concurrent validity. The Infection Prevention Appraisal Scale demonstrates sound psychometric properties supporting a unidimensional measure of self-efficacy to medical asepsis in care situations.
Aim
To identify clusters based on haemodialysis nurses' self‐rated work ability, work engagement and self‐reported work hours and to compare the identified clusters regarding hand pain after work.

Methods
Data based on the Work Ability Index, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and hand pain severity after work were collected through a web‐based survey among 503 haemodialysis nurses working in Sweden and Denmark. A two‐step cluster analysis was used to identify homogenous groups of cases within the dataset, followed by comparative analyses of the clusters.
Results
Four distinct clusters were identified, illustrating differing profiles of haemodialysis nurses' work ability, work engagement and working hours. Nurses who worked part‐time and reported moderate work ability and average work engagement had significantly higher ratings of hand pain after work.
Conclusions
Haemodialysis nurses are a heterogeneous group as regards work ability, work engagement and self‐reported work hours. The four distinct clusters of nurses indicate a need for customized interventions for retaining each subgroup at work.
The aim of the present study was to use exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to investigate the factorial structure of the 9-item Utrecht work engagement scale (UWES-9) in a ...multi-occupational female sample.
A total of 702 women, originally recruited as a general population of 7-15-year-old girls in 1995 for a longitudinal study, completed the UWES-9. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed on half the sample, and CFA on the other half.
Exploratory factor analysis showed that a one-factor structure best fit the data. CFA with three different models (one-factor, two-factor, and three-factor) was then conducted. Goodness-of-fit statistics showed poor fit for all three models, with RMSEA never going lower than 0.166.
Despite indication from exploratory factor analysis (EFA) that a one-factor structure seemed to fit the data, we were unable to find good model fit for a one-, two-, or three-factor model using CFA. As previous studies have also failed to reach conclusive results on the optimal factor structure for the UWES-9, further research is needed in order to disentangle the possible effects of gender, nationality and occupation on work engagement.
Although the structures of native proteins are generally unique, the pathways by which they form are often free to vary. Some proteins fold by a multitude of different pathways, whereas others seem ...restricted to only one choice. An explanation for this variation in folding behaviour has recently emerged from studies of transition state changes: the number of accessible pathways is linked to the number of nucleation motifs contained within the native topology. We refer to these nucleation motifs as ‘foldons’, as they approach the size of an independent cooperative unit. Thus, with respect to pathway malleability and the composition of the folding funnel, proteins can be seen as modular assemblies of competing foldons. For the split β-α-β fold, these foldons are two-strand-helix motifs coupled by spatial overlap.
Introduction: Fluid management in hemodialysis patients is a controversial topic. Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is secreted from the heart in response to volume overload, and may be a marker of ...overhydration in hemodialysis patients. Our aim was to investigate the correlation between BNP and overhydration in a cohort of hemodialysis patients, and to find out whether BNP and overhydration correlate in repeated measurements within individuals with elevated BNP.
Methods: The study was prospective, observational, and had a cross‐sectional part and a longitudinal follow‐up. The distribution of BNP was investigated in a cohort of 64 hemodialysis patients. Blood samples and bioimpedance spectroscopy measurements were performed before midweek dialysis. Subsequently, 11 study participants with elevated BNP concentrations (>500 pg/mL) were assessed in another nine dialysis sessions each. These individuals also had their cardiac function and heart rate variability (HRV) examined.
Findings: BNP was above 500 pg/mL in 38% of the participants, and correlated positively with overhydration (rs = 0.381), inflammation and malnutrition, but not with systolic blood pressure. In comparison to participants with BNP below 500 pg/mL, participants with elevated BNP were older, had lower muscle strength, lower bodyweight and lower levels of hemoglobin and albumin. Echocardiography revealed cardiac anomalies in all 11 participants in the longitudinal follow‐up, and HRV, as measured by SDNN, was pathologically low. In repeated measurements, the between‐individuals variation of BNP in relation to overhydration was greater (SD = 0.581) than the within‐person variation (SD = 0.285).
Discussion: BNP correlates positively to overhydration, malnutrition, and inflammation. In a subgroup of patients with elevated BNP, who are mainly elderly and frail, BNP reflects individual variation in hydration status, and hence seems to be a modifiable marker of overhydration. These data suggest that BNP is best applied for measuring changes in hydration status within an individual over time.
Hand eczema is a chronic disease that results in economic and psychosocial burdens. The aim of this study was to systematically review and assess the magnitude of the association between exposure ...related to occupations and the incidence rate of hand eczema. A systematic search in PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL and Cochrane databases, from inception to September 2017, of full-text observational studies reporting incident cases of hand eczema during employment, and a supplementary search in PubMed to September 2020, were conducted. Among 2,417 screened abstracts, 15 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Incidence rates were reported per 100 person-years. Based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, 9 studies were good quality, 2 fair quality, and 4 poor quality. Hairdressers had a high incidence of hand eczema of 21.4 (95% confidence interval CI 15.3-27.4), as did nurses, 16.9 (95% CI 11.2-22.7), and metal workers, 12.4 (95% CI 3.5-21.3). Hairdressers were predominantly women, and metal worker were predominantly men. Office occupations had an incidence rate of hand eczema of 4.9 (95% CI 1.2-9.6). The high risk of hand eczema for hairdressers, nurses, and metal workers, should be considered by healthcare policymakers. Even occupations with low irritant profile, such as office workers, were at risk of developing hand eczema, and more occupations should be investigated regarding the related risk of developing hand eczema.

Around 10% of the female population is estimated to have a subclinical eating disorder. Many of these women are of working age. Previous research has shown associations between unhealthy eating ...behaviors and occupational stress or burnout. However, no previous study has explored the association between disordered eating and work engagement, a positive, fulfilling, affective-cognitive state of mind which has been positioned as the conceptual opposite of burnout. Thus, that was the aim of the present study.
In this cross-sectional study, a sample of 701 Swedish women completed the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) and the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q). They were divided into a Healthy Eating (HE) and a Disordered Eating (DE) group based on their EDE-Q scores. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to test the association between disordered eating and work engagement. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to assess the associations between educational level, marital status and age group, and work engagement.
Neither the UWES scores nor the EDE-Q scores were found to have a normal distribution. Non-parametric testing showed that the DE group reported significantly lower work engagement than the HE group (p = 0.016). There were no significant associations between education, marital status or age (independent variables) and work engagement (dependent variable) (p = 0.826, 0.309, and 0.349, respectively).
These findings indicate that work engagement may play a role in disordered eating, and that there is a need for future research to consider the workplace environment as a potential source for altering disordered eating behaviors.
